Background: cervical cancer (cc) is one of the most frequent cancers and the leading cause of death from gynecological cancer in Low and middle income countries, cameroon inclusive. Surgery is the primary treatment modality when the disease is diagnosed at early stage. Radical hysterectomy in cervical cancer has not been evaluated in recent years in cameroon. The purpose of this study is thus to evaluate the epidemiological and clinical features and short term outcomes of patients who underwent surgery. Patients and methods: This retrospective study was conducted at the Douala Gynaeco-obstetric and Pediatric Hospital and the Douala General Hospital. cervical cancer patients who underwent Radical hysterectomy between January 2015 and December 2020 were included. A pre-established data collection tool was used to record socio-demographic, clinical and outcomes information from patients’ files;additional outcome information was obtained from phone calls. Descriptive analysis was done using the SPSS version 26. Bivariate analysis was used to determine associations between disease and patients characteristics and occurrence of adverse postoperative outcome. P value of 0.05 was considered. Results: Sixty one patients were enrolled. Their ages ranged from 33 to 74 years with a mean age of 51.95 ± 10.29 years. Over 85% of women were married, 65.57% were unemployed and 86.88% were multiparous. Only 28% had never done cervical cancer screening. Most patients had stage IB1 to IB2 stage disease (57.1%). Less than 9% underwent radical hysterectomy and 8 of those (13.11%) suffered intraoperative complications. Twenty-five patients (40.98%) presented immediate and short term complications. There was no significant association between the disease or patients’ characteristics and adverse outcomes. conclusion: cervical cancer patients are relatively young in our settings and only 9% of them reach the hospital at early stage. Fukui Functions for the Temporary Anion Resonance States of Be^-, Mg^-, and ca^-

In this work,the Fukui functions of the two ~2P resonance states of Be,a ~2P resonance state of Mg~–,and a ~2D resonance state of ca~– have been *** trajectories of these resonance states,in conjunction with the complex rotation of the Hamiltonian,were used to determine their wave *** electron densities,Fukui functions,and values of the hyper-radiuswere computed from these wave *** Fukui functions have negative regions in the valence shell in addition to the inner shell regions,indicating screening effects of the outer temporary *** configuration interactions with up to quadruple excitations were used along the trajectories and for computing the final wave *** on this data,the densities,Fukui functions,andwere calculated.

Globally,vast research interest is emerging towards the development of biodegradable orthopedic implants as it overcomes the toxicity exerted by non-degradable implants when fixed in the human body for a longer *** this context,magnesium(Mg)plays a major role in the production of biodegradable implants owing to their characteristic degradation nature under the influence of body ***,Mg is one of the essential nutrients required to perform various metabolic activities by the human cells,and therefore,the degraded Mg products will be readily absorbed by the nearby ***,the higher corrosion rate in the biological environment is the primary downside of using Mg implants that liberate H2gas resulting in the formation of ***,in certain cases,Mg undergoes complete degradation before the healing of damaged bone tissue and cannot serve the purpose of providing mechanical ***,many studies have been focused on the development of different strategies to improve the corrosion-resistant behavior of Mg according to the *** this regard,the present review focused on the limitations of using pure Mg and Mg alloys for the fabrication of medical implants and how the calcium phosphate conversion coating alters the corrosive tendency through the formation of hydroxyapatite protective films for enhanced performance in medical implant applications.

A mechanistic study of cO removal on a small H-saturated platinum cluster

cO poisoning to platinum catalysts has long been recognized as one of the major technical obstacles in heterogeneous catalysis and its successful removal represents a significant challenge to a wide variety of applications. Using density functional theory (DFT), we performed systematic theoretical calcula-tions to explore the cO removal mechanisms, in the presence of hydrogen, via oxidation by oxygen to form cO2 or reduction by hydrogen to form formaldehyde using a subnano Pt cluster as a model for catalyst nanoparticles. We show that cO oxidation is both thermochemically and kinetically difficult at low H coverage but becomes very exothermic with a moderate activation barrier at high H coverage, suggesting that the oxidation can be carried out readily at elevated temperatures. Doping the Pt cluster with Ru can significantly improve the oxidation thermochemical energy and moderately reduce the activation barrier. The results are consistent with experimental observations. We found that cO reduction by hydrogen to form formaldehyde is moderately endothermic. However, the reaction is predicted to be kinetically difficult due to the relatively high activation barriers associated with the sequential H attacks to the cO molecule.

Surgical management of polycystic liver disease

Adult polycystic liver disease (PcLD) is an autosomal dominant condition commonly associated with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). However in the last decade, it has been recognized that there is a distinct form of autosomal dominant PcLD that arises without concomitant ADPKD. Early knowledge of the pathogenesis was gained from the study of hepatic cysts in patients with ADPKD. Bile duct overgrowth after embryogenesis results in cystic hepatic dilatations that are known as biliary microhamartomas or von Meyenburg complexes. Further dilatation arises from cellular proliferation and fluid secretion into these cysts. There is a variable, broad spectrum of manifestations of PcLD. Although PcLD is most often asymptomatic, massive hepatomegaly can lead to disabling symptoms of abdominal pain, early satiety, persistent nausea, dyspnea, ascites, biliary obstruction, and lower body edema. complications of PcLD include cyst rupture and cyst infection. Also, there are associated medical problems, especially intracranial aneurysms and valvular heart disease, which clinicians need to be aware of and evaluate in patients with PcLD. In asymptomatic patients, no treatment is indicated for PcLD. In the symptomatic patient, surgical therapy is the mainstay of treatment tailored to the extent of disease for each patient. Management options include cyst aspiration and sclerosis, open or laparoscopic fenestration, liver resection with fenestration, and liver transplantation. The surgical literature discussing treatment of PcLD, including techniques, outcomes, and complication rates, are summarized in this review.

BAcKGROUND The use of uncemented cups during total hip arthroplasty(THA)has gained popularity in recent *** robert Mathys(RM)pressfit cup,an uncemented monoblock implant is expected to preserve bone density due to its composition and external surface,while reducing backside wear with its monoblock *** factors should lead to a high survival rate of the *** To evaluate the mid-term survival and functional outcome of the RM Pressfit cup in a large study *** Between 2011 and 2020,we included 1324 patients receiving a primary THA using the RM pressfit *** clinical follow-up was performed at 2 years postoperatively with the Dutch arthroplasty register used to assess implant status *** for acetabular failure and reason for revision were reported to evaluate implant survival,while the hip disability and osteoarthritis outcome score(HOOS)scores were used to assess functional *** The mean age at surgery was 64.9 *** mean follow-up was 4.6 *** the 1324 THAs performed,13 needed cup revisions within 5 years after index THA:5 due to aseptic loosening,6 due to infection,2 due to dislocation and 2 due to other *** resulted in a 5-year cup survival of 98.8%(95%cI:98.1-99.5).Nine of the cup revisions occurred within the first year after index *** scores increased significantly in all domains during the first year and levelled out during the second *** In the present study,the RM pressfit cup demonstrated excellent clinical outcomes at mid-term follow-up;however,future studies are needed to assess the long-term outcomes of this acetabular implant.

Discovery of N-benzyl hydroxypyridone carboxamides as a novel and potent antiviral chemotype against human cytomegalovirus (HcMV)
