Several experimental evidence suggests a link between brain Herpes simplex virus type-1 infection and the occurrence of Alzheimer’s ***,the molecular mechanisms underlying this association are not completely *** the molecular mediators of synaptic and cognitive dysfunction occurring after Herpes simplex virus type-1 infection and reactivation in the brain neuroinflammatory cytokines seem to occupy a central ***,we specifically reviewed literature reports dealing with the impact of neuroinflammation on synaptic dysfunction observed after recurrent Herpes simplex virus type-1 reactivation in the brain,highlighting the role of interleukins and,in particular,interleukin 1βas a possible target against Herpes simplex virus type-1-induced neuronal dysfunctions.

With increasing age,humans become more susceptible to the onset of neurodegenerative diseases(NDs),and among these,Alzheimer's disease(AD)is the most frequent(Nicoletti et al.,2023).NDs are primarily characterized by neuronal loss and atrophy,but also by lesions involving the cerebral and/or cardiovascular system(Balistreri,2021).Lesions such as macroinfa rcts,microinfarcts,hemorrhages,white matter lesions,atherosclerosis,and arteriolosclerosis have also been significantly described in the preclinical stages of cognitive impairment characterizing NDs(Mariani et al.,2007).

Electromagnetic form factors are fundamental observables that describe the electric and magnetic structure of hadrons and provide keys to understand the strong interaction. At the Beijing Spectrometer(BESⅢ),form factors have been measured for different baryons in the time-like region for the first time or with the best precision. The results are presented with examples focused on but not limited to the proton/neutron,the, with a strange quark, and the c, with a charm quark.

Mitigation measures of debris flow and landslide risk carried out in two mountain areas of North-Eastern Italy

The design of remediation works for the mitigation and prevention of the associated risk is needed where these geological hazards affect anthropized areas. Remedial measures for landslides commonly include slope reshaping, plumbing, drainage, retaining structures and internal slope reinforcement, while debris flow control works consist in open or closed control structures. The effectiveness of the remedial works implemented must be assessed by evaluating the reduction of the risk over time. The choice of the most appropriate and cost-effective intervention must consider the type of hazard and environmental issues, and selects, wherever possible, naturalistic engineering operations that are consequently implemented according to the environmental regulations or the design and specification standards imposed by the competent public administrations. The mitigation procedures consist of five basic steps:(a) acquisition of the knowledge of the hazard process;(b) risk assessment with identification of possible disaster scenarios;(c) planning and designing of specific remedial measures to reduce and/or eliminate the potential risk;(d) slope monitoring after application of remedial measures,(e) transfer of knowledge to the stakeholders. This paper presents two case studies describing the practice for the design of the mitigation measures adopted for debris flow and active landslide sites in North-Eastern Italy. The first case study is a debris flow site, for which, based on observation of past events and numerical simulations using the software FLOW-2D, the most suitable mitigation measures were found to be the construction of a debris basin, barriers and breakers. The second case study deals with an active landslide threatening a village. Based on the landslide kinematics and the results of numerical simulations performed with the code FLAC, hard engineering remedial works were planned to reduce the driving forces with benching and by increasing the available resisting forc

The initial-boundary value problem for a general balance law in a bounded domain is proved to be well posed. Indeed, we show the existence of an entropy solution, its uniqueness and its Lipschitz continuity as a function of time, of the initial datum and of the boundary datum. The proof follows the general lines in [4], striving to provide a rigorous treatment and detailed references.

Helicobacter pylori(***)is the causative agent of gastritis,peptic ulcer disease,mucosa associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma and gastric cancer(GC).While this bacterium infects 50%of the world’s population,in Africa its prevalence reach as high as 80%as the infection is acquired during *** factors for *** acquisition have been reported to be mainly due to overcrowding,to have infected siblings or parent and to unsafe water *** this high *** prevalence there still does not exist an African guideline,equivalent to the Maastricht V/Florence Consensus Report of the European Helicobacter and Microbiota Study Group for the management of this *** this continent,although there is a paucity of epidemiologic data,a contrast between the high prevalence of *** infection and the low incidence of GC has been *** phenomenon is the so-called“African Enigma”and it has been hypothesized that it could be explained by environmental,dietary and genetic factors.A heterogeneity of data both on diagnosis and on therapy have been *** this context,it is evident that in several African countries the increasing rate of bacterial resistance,mainly to metronidazole and clarithromycin,requires continental guidelines to recommend the appropriate management of *** aim of this manuscript is to review current literature on *** infection in Africa,in terms of prevalence,risk factors,impact on human health,treatment and challenges encountered so as to proffer possible solutions to reduce *** transmission in this continent.
