First order dynamics approaching of broiler chicken deep body temperature response to step changes in ambient temperature

Traditional environmental control methods for poultry housing which rely solely on environmental factors fall short in meeting thermal and physiological needs of the *** methods are needed that factor in the physiological needs and responses of the animals in order to maximize well-being of the animals and minimize heat *** body temperature(DBT)has been shown in the literature to be a strong indicator of heat stress,therefore studies are needed that help us gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between this variable and environmental *** aim of this study was to identify the order of the dynamic response of poultry DBT to large step changes in ambient temperature(AT).Temperature steps had to be big enough to take the chickens out of their homeothermic zone.A total of 46 DBT/AT data sets with 23 upward AT steps and 23 downward AT steps were obtained using a biotelemetry system,and involving three *** responses of individual chickens to step changes in AT were found to have a 0.88 average Pearson correlation suggesting consistency in chickens’responses to the same stimuli(phe data indicated that DBT responses to AT followed a first order behavior in most cases with an average time constant of 1.6 h,and the curve fitting method was used to validate this *** was a 0.88 average correlation between DBT model and measured data(phese results indicate statistical significance in the data used and the model derived from *** conclusion,it is reasonable to assume that the dynamic response of poultry DBT to large step changes in ambient temperature follows a first order *** further studies are needed to more fully derive the model,this study provided a stepping-stone towards gaining a better understanding of the relationship between DBT and AT,therefore taking us one step closer towards making optimal management and risk assessment decisions that are based on physiological needs of the c

Modeling of an Internal Stress and Strain Distribution of an Inverted Staggered Thin-Film Transistor Based on Two-Dimensional Mass-Spring-Damper Structure

Equipped with a two-dimensional topological structure,a group of masses,springs and dampers can be demonstrated to model the internal dynamics of a thin-film transistor(TFT).In this paper,the two-dimensional Mass-Spring-Damper(MSD)representation of an inverted staggered TFT is proposed to explore the TFT’s internal stress/strain distributions,and the stress-induced effects on TFT’s electrical *** 2DMSD model is composed of a finite but massive number of interconnected cellular *** parameters,such as mass,stiffness,and damping ratios,of each cellular unit are approximated from constitutive equations of the compositematerials,while the electrical properties of the inverted staggered TFT are characterized by utilizing an electro-mechanical coupling relation derived from the quantum *** are often used in biomedical sensors/transducers attached to human skins,and,for the purpose of simulation and validation,the boundary conditions on the interface between the TFT and the human skin were modeled as a spatially distributed sinusoidal excitation with a frequency of 50 hz,assuming the TFT thickness is more than tens of *** fidelity of the 2D MSD structure in the modeling of an inverted staggered TFT is verified by comparing its simulated total displacement fieldwith that of a finite element analysis(FEA)*** advantages of the MSD model include a dramatic reduction in memory use by up to 60%and faster computation times that are up to 80%*** importantly,the MSD model is better suited than FEA to many problems in accurate tissue modeling for medical applications,for which FEA is becoming a *** work develops a novel modeling approach,which can be extended to other types of flexible thin film transistors.

Does overshoot in leaf development of ponderosa pine in wet years leads to bark beetle outbreaks on fine-textured soils in drier years?

Background： Frequent outbreaks of insects and diseases have been recorded in the native forests of western North America during the last few decades, but the distribution of these outbreaks has been far from uniform. In some cases, recent climatic variations may explain some of this spatial variation along with the presence of expansive forests composed of dense, older trees. Forest managers and policy makers would benefit if areas especially prone to disturbance could be recognized so that mitigating actions could be taken. Methods： We use two ponderosa pine-dominated sites in western Montana, U.S.A. to apply a modeling approach that couples information acquired via remote sensing, soil surveys, and local weather stations to assess where bark beetle outbreaks might first occur and why. Although there was a general downward trend in precipitation for both sites over the period between 1998 and 2010 （slope =-1.3, R2 = 0.08）, interannual variability was high. Some years showed large increases followed by sharp decreases. Both sites had similar topography and fire histories, but bark beetle activity occurred earlier （circa 2000 to 2001） and more severely on one site than on the other. The initial canopy density of the two sites was also similar, with leaf area indices ranging between 1.7-2.0 m2. m-2. We wondered if the difference in bark beetle activity was related to soils that were higher in clay content at site I than at site II. To assess this possibility, we applied a process-based stand growth model （3-PG） to analyze the data and evaluate the hypotheses. Results： We found that when wet years were followed by drier years, the simulated annual wood production per unit of leaf area, a measure of tree vigor, dropped below a critical threshold on site I but not on site II. Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious infectious disease and its control is considered a challenge, particularly among vulnerable populations such as prisoners. The prevalence of TB in prisons is an alarming public health problem in many countries. The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiology of tuberculosis and the strategies for controlling this disease in the Chadian prison population. During the course of our study, the prevalence of tuberculosis in prisons was 9.64%. The age group between 55 years and over (43.33%) was the most represented in this study, and all patients were men with a frequency of 62.66%. The cross-tabulation of Culture_7h9G and Culture_7h9P showed that out of our total positive sample, we found a total of 87 positive strains and 63 negative strains. Our study shows that it is essential to know the prevalence of tuberculosis in all the country’s prisons. Indeed, this can serve as an indication of the need for action in prisons to reduce TB rates, in particular by improving the structure of prison environments, diagnosing new cases quickly and accurately, identifying drug-resistant strains and implementing effective, direct treatment observed in people with tuberculosis.

Identification of resistant pharmaceuticals in ozonation using QSAR modeling and their fate in electro-peroxone process

The abatements of 89 pharmaceuticals in secondary effluent by ozonation and the electro-peroxone(E-peroxone)process were *** on the results,a quantitative structure-activity relationship(QSAR)model was developed to explore relationship between chemical structure of pharmaceuticals and their oxidation rates by *** orthogonal projection to latent structure(OPLS)method was used to identify relevant chemical descriptors of the pharmaceuticals,from large number of descriptors,for model *** resulting QSAR model,based on 44 molecular descriptors related to the ozone reactivity of the pharmaceuticals,showed high goodness of fit(R^(2)=0.963)and predictive power(Q^(2)=0.84).After validation,the model was used to predict second-order rate constants of 491 pharmaceuticals of special concern(k_(O_(3)))including the 89 studied *** predicted k_(O_(3))values and experimentally determined pseudo-first order rate constants of the pharmaceuticals’abatement during ozonation(k_(OZ))and the E-peroxone process(k_(EP))were then used to assess effects of switching from ozonation to the E-peroxone process on removal of these *** results indicate that the E-peroxone process could accelerate the abatement of pharmaceuticals with relatively low ozone reactivity(k_(O_(3))han ozonation(3–10 min versus 5–20 min).The validated QSAR model predicted 66 pharmaceuticals to be highly O_(3)-*** developed QSAR model may be used to estimate the ozone reactivity of pharmaceuticals of diverse chemistry and thus predict their fate in ozone-based processes.

Epidemiological, Clinical Progress Aspects of Congenital heart Disease with Neonatal Revelation at the Mother-Child hospital of Bingerville (hME) Concerning 98 Cases from January 2021 to December 2022 (Côte d’Ivoire)

Introduction The distribution of congenital heart disease (ChD) in sub-Saharan Africa is highly imprecise and varies from one region to another due to the inequality of diagnostic facilities. The aim of this study was to determine the in-hospital prevalence of congenital heart disease in children at the Mother-Child hospital of Bingerville (hME) by specifying the diagnostic, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects. Materials and methods We conducted a retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study at hME of Bingerville from January 2021 to December 2022. All newborns with congenital heart disease confirmed by echocardiography were included in the study. Results Of 656 admissions to the neonatology department over the study period, congenital heart disease accounted for 14.9% (98/656) of cases. In our series, 76.7% were diagnosed before the 1st week of life, with a mean chronological age of 5.18 days and extremes of 0 and 46 days. There were as many male patients (50%) as female (50%), i.e. a sex ratio of 1. These newborns were premature in 60.2% of cases, with a mean and median gestational age of 34 weeks’ amenorrhea. Most were left-right shunts (90.8%). Persistent ductus arteriosus (PDA) (48.9%) predominated, followed by atrial septal defect (38.7%), ventricular septal defect (13.3%), common trunk artery (CTA) (3.1%) and open septal pulmonary atresia (OSPA) (1%) as the primary cyanogenic heart disease. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAh) (50%) was primary in 38.8% and secondary (61.2%). The mortality rate was 30.6%, and all CTA patients died (100%), with a significant statistical relationship (p = 0.027). Progression under treatment was marked by clinical stabilization (68/98) in 69.4% of cases. Conclusion: Congenital heart disease is relatively common at the Bingerville hME. Access to echocardiography should be facilitated in neonatology departments for rapid diagnosis and optimal management of congenital heart disease in newborns.

Long-term esophageal and respiratory outcomes in children with esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula

Influence of Tropical Cyclones on hong Kong Air Quality

Tropical cyclones（TCs） constitute one of the major atmospheric activities affecting the air quality of the Pearl River Delta region. In this study, the impact of TCs on air quality in hong Kong during the TC active season（July–October） from 2000 to 2015 is investigated. It is found that 57.5% of days with concentration of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter 10 μm（PM（10）） above the 90th percentile are related to TC activity. TCs in three regions, located to the east, southeast, and southwest of hong Kong, have obvious impacts on pollutant concentration. When TCs are located east of hong Kong near Taiwan, 65.5%/38.7% of the days have high or extremely high PM（10）/ozone（O3） levels, which are associated with northerly wind, sinking motion, and relatively low precipitation. When TCs are located southeast of hong Kong, 48.1%/58.2% of the days have high pollution levels, associated mainly with continental air mass transport. When TCs are south or west of hong Kong, only 20.8%/16.9% of the days have high PM（10）/O3 levels, and the air quality in hong Kong is generally good or normal due to TC-associated precipitation, oceanic air mass transport, and an enhanced rising motion. The higher chance of high O3 days when TCs are present between hong Kong and Taiwan, possibly due to lower-than-normal precipitation along the east coast of China under TC circulation. The results in this study highlight the important influence of TC position and associated atmospheric circulations on the air quality in hong Kong.
