A Survey and Experimental Review on Data Distribution Strategies for Parallel Spatial Clustering Algorithms

The advent of Big Data has led to the rapid growth in the usage of parallel clustering algorithms that work over distributed computing frameworks such as MPI,MapReduce,and *** important step for any parallel clustering algorithm is the distribution of data amongst the cluster *** step governs the methodology and performance of the entire *** typically use random,or a spatial/geometric distribution strategy like kd-tree based partitioning and grid-based partitioning,as per the requirements of the ***,these strategies are generic and are not tailor-made for any specific parallel clustering *** this paper,we give a very comprehensive literature survey of MPI-based parallel clustering algorithms with special reference to the specific data distribution strategies they *** also propose three new data distribution strategies namely Parameterized Dimensional Split for parallel density-based clustering algorithms like DBSCAN and OPTICS,Cell-Based Dimensional Split for dGridSLINK,which is a grid-based hierarchical clustering algorithm that exhibits efficiency for disjoint spatial distribution,and Projection-Based Split,which is a generic distribution *** of these preserve spatial locality,achieve disjoint partitioning,and ensure good data load *** experimental analysis shows the benefits of using the proposed data distribution strategies for algorithms they are designed for,based on which we give appropriate recommendations for their usage.

Traumatic abdominal wall hernia:a rare and often missed diagnosis in blunt trauma

Dear editor,Traumatic abdominal wall hernia(TAWH)is defined as disruption of the abdominal wall musculature and fascia with herniation of intra-abdominal contents,in the absence of surgery to that area of the abdominal wall.[1]It is rare,with an incidence of 0.17%-0.90%in patients with blunt abdominal trauma.[2,3]Deceleration forces caused by falls from height or seat belt injuries are the most common causes of TAWH.[4]Low-energy blunt injuries from bicycle or motorcycles handlebars or charging animals are less frequent *** to the rare incidence and complex presentation of this condition with other distracting injuries,this diagnosis is often not considered,resulting in missed or delayed *** present a case of a 46-year-old male who suffered major abdominal trauma,and was found to have TAWH as well as intra-abdominal organ injury.

EHD friction properties of ISO VG 320 gear oils with smooth and rough surfaces

The elastohydrodynamic(EHD)friction properties of seven ISO VG 320 gear oils including three polyalphaolefins(PAOs),three polyglycols(PG)and a mineral oil have been investigated in rolling/sliding conditions at six different temperatures and three *** thickness,Stribeck and traction curves have been generated using a ball‐on‐disc *** thickness results are in agreement with previous work that it is primarily controlled by pressure‐viscosity coefficient and viscosity of *** results with smooth surface show that all oils experience significant shear heating leading to friction reduction at higher strain rates or lambda ratios but only PGs reach limiting friction whereas mineral oil and PAOs do *** curves obtained at different temperatures and roughnesses enable simulating an extensive range of lubrication regimes and allow isothermal friction correction for shear *** curves with rough surfaces show an increase in friction in the lambda range of 0.5–3.5,where asperity separation varies from partial to full–indicating that roughness effects can be expected even under full film *** increase in friction is attributed to formation of a micro‐EHD region,and is seen only with mineral oil and PAOs whereas not with *** results also highlight how EHD friction properties of different family of fluids could be influenced by roughness effects,and the possible mechanisms are discussed.

The problem of passivity analysis is investigated for uncertain stochastic neural networks with discrete interval and distributed time-varying *** parameter uncertainties are assumed to be norm bounded and the delay is assumed to be time-varying and belongs to a given interval,which means that the lower and upper bounds of interval time-varying delays are *** constructing proper Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and employing a combination of the free-weighting matrix method and stochastic analysis technique,new delay-dependent passivity conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities（LMIs）.Finally,numerical examples are given to show the less conservatism of the proposed conditions.
