Fragmentation of fuel pellets during transport via a belt conveyor:A design of experiment study

This work investigates the proportion of generated fines in a pilot-scale experiment using a belt conveyor and commercial fuel *** this,a belt conveyor with a length of 3.1 m was used and operated at varying conditions:speeds,percentages of material loading on the belt,two combinations of the inclination angle of the belt and the falling height,and a different number of handling *** considered a design of experiments approach based on response surface methodology to investigate the effect of different conditions on the potential of fines ***,a comparison between the results of the belt conveyor and three common benchmark experimental approaches(tumbling box,rotary impact tester,and mechanical compression test)was *** show that the number of handling steps and the combined effect of drop height and inclination angle directly affected the fines ***,the tested belt speed range and the level of loading were of lower significance.A polynomial quadratic model was derived based on the regression analysis and showed a high accuracy to predict the proportion of ***,the tumbling box method showed good potential to predict the proportion of fines in a belt conveyor when transported several times.

Identification of resistant pharmaceuticals in ozonation using QSAR modeling and their fate in electro-peroxone process

The abatements of 89 pharmaceuticals in secondary effluent by ozonation and the electro-peroxone(E-peroxone)process were *** on the results,a quantitative structure-activity relationship(QSAR)model was developed to explore relationship between chemical structure of pharmaceuticals and their oxidation rates by *** orthogonal projection to latent structure(OPLS)method was used to identify relevant chemical descriptors of the pharmaceuticals,from large number of descriptors,for model *** resulting QSAR model,based on 44 molecular descriptors related to the ozone reactivity of the pharmaceuticals,showed high goodness of fit(R^(2)=0.963)and predictive power(Q^(2)=0.84).After validation,the model was used to predict second-order rate constants of 491 pharmaceuticals of special concern(k_(O_(3)))including the 89 studied *** predicted k_(O_(3))values and experimentally determined pseudo-first order rate constants of the pharmaceuticals’abatement during ozonation(k_(OZ))and the E-peroxone process(k_(EP))were then used to assess effects of switching from ozonation to the E-peroxone process on removal of these *** results indicate that the E-peroxone process could accelerate the abatement of pharmaceuticals with relatively low ozone reactivity(k_(O_(3))han ozonation(3–10 min versus 5–20 min).The validated QSAR model predicted 66 pharmaceuticals to be highly O_(3)-*** developed QSAR model may be used to estimate the ozone reactivity of pharmaceuticals of diverse chemistry and thus predict their fate in ozone-based processes.

Long-term esophageal and respiratory outcomes in children with esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula

What is the quantitative risk of gastric cancer in the first-degree relatives of patients? A meta-analysis

AIMTo quantify the risk of gastric cancer in first-degree relatives of patients with the *** comprehensive literature search was performed. Case-control trials comparing the frequency of a positive family history of gastric cancer in patients with gastric cancer, vs non-gastric cancer controls were retrieved. Studies with missed or non-extractable data, studies in children, abstracts, and duplicate publications were excluded. A meta-analysis of pooled odd ratios was performed using Review Manager 5.0.25. We performed subgroup analysis on Asian studies and a sensitivity analysis based on the quality of the studies, type of the outcome, sample size, and whether studies considered only first-degree ***-two relevant studies out of 612 potential abstracts (n = 80690 individuals) were included. 19.0% of the patients and 10.9% of the controls had at least one relative with gastric cancer (P he pooled relative risk for the development of gastric cancer in association with a positive family history was 2.35 (95%CI: 1.96-2.81). The Cochran Q test for heterogeneity was positive (P he three outlier studies with the highest relative risks, heterogeneity remained significant (P he result was not different among Asian studies as compared to others and remained robust in several sensitivity analyses. In the 26 studies which exclusively analysed the history of gastric cancer in first-degree relatives, the relative risk was 2.71 (95%CI: 2.08-3.53; P h a first-degree relative affected with gastric cancer have a risk of about 2.5-fold for the development of gastric cancer. This could be due to genetic or environmental factors. Screening and preventive strategies should be developed for this high-risk population.

Influence of Tropical Cyclones on hong Kong Air Quality

Tropical cyclones（TCs） constitute one of the major atmospheric activities affecting the air quality of the Pearl River Delta region. In this study, the impact of TCs on air quality in hong Kong during the TC active season（July–October） from 2000 to 2015 is investigated. It is found that 57.5% of days with concentration of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter 10 μm（PM（10）） above the 90th percentile are related to TC activity. TCs in three regions, located to the east, southeast, and southwest of hong Kong, have obvious impacts on pollutant concentration. When TCs are located east of hong Kong near Taiwan, 65.5%/38.7% of the days have high or extremely high PM（10）/ozone（O3） levels, which are associated with northerly wind, sinking motion, and relatively low precipitation. When TCs are located southeast of hong Kong, 48.1%/58.2% of the days have high pollution levels, associated mainly with continental air mass transport. When TCs are south or west of hong Kong, only 20.8%/16.9% of the days have high PM（10）/O3 levels, and the air quality in hong Kong is generally good or normal due to TC-associated precipitation, oceanic air mass transport, and an enhanced rising motion. The higher chance of high O3 days when TCs are present between hong Kong and Taiwan, possibly due to lower-than-normal precipitation along the east coast of China under TC circulation. The results in this study highlight the important influence of TC position and associated atmospheric circulations on the air quality in hong Kong.

Intraseasonal Variation of Visibility in hong Kong

Visibility is one of the parameters for indicating air pollution. In this study, visibility variation in hong Kong during summer and winter is investigated. Visibility in hong Kong has clear intraseasonai variation. Examination of different environmental parameters suggests that the intraseasonal component dominates the overall circulation anomalies in both summer and winter. Associated with the intraseasonal variation of environmental parameters, obvious variation in visibility impair- ment is found in both summer and winter. In summer, local visibility and air quality are found to be significantly affected by the （MJO） and the 10-30-day intraseasonal oscillation （ISO） through modulation of associated atmospheric circulations. In winter, the modulation effects appear to be weaker due to the southward shift of the associated convection. The results in this study highlight the importance of the ISO in contributing to the overall variation in visibility in hong Kong, and provide useful implications for the development of possible mitigation strategies associated with visibility impairment and air pollution in hong Kong.

Diagenesis and its controls on reservoir quality of the Tambar oil field, Norwegian North Sea

A study of the diagenetic evolution of the Late Jurassic sandstones of the shallow marine facies in the Tambar oil field,Norwegian North Sea was carried out to understand its controls on reservoir *** samples and a set of wireline logs obtained from three wells were used to carry out petrographic studies including light optics and scanning electron microscopy,well log analysis,fluid inclusions,X-ray diffraction(XRD)for whole rock samples,clay mineral extracts and stable *** Tambar reservoir sandstones range mainly from siltstone to fine-grained sandstones,exclusively arkoses cemented mainly by microcrystalline quartz,euhedral quartz overgrowth,dolomite cement,illite and *** diagenetic/eodigenetic minerals include pyrite,calcite,and microcrystalline quartz and late diagenetic/mesodiagenetic minerals include quartz overgrowth,dolomite,illite and *** d18O values of dolomite cement in the Tambar sandstone reservoir range from11.77‰to3.57‰PDB,while the d13C values of the dolomite cement are from5.07‰to1.12‰*** temperature for fluid inclusions trapped in authigenic quartz fall between 130℃ and 169℃.The reservoir quality is controlled mainly by early formed grain-coating microcrystalline quartz that precipitated from the dissolution of sponge spicules which significantly inhibits quartz overgrowth *** emplacement do not show significant control on reservoir quality because considerable quartz cementation has taken place before the onset of major oil *** the coarse-grained sands show a correlation between quartz cement volume and water ***,the interpreted temperature for dolomite cementation is significantly higher for water leg-suggested effect of oil emplacement on the late ***-standing these controls on the reservoir quality will enhance the exploration strategy for the Tambar oil field.

A Fractional Drift Diffusion Model for Organic Semiconductor Devices

Because charge carriers of many organic semiconductors(OSCs)exhibit fractional drift diffusion(Fr-DD)transport properties,the need to develop a Fr-DD model solver becomes more ***,the current research on solving the governing equations of the Fr-DD model is practically *** this paper,an iterative solver with high precision is developed to solve both the transient and steady-state Fr-DD model for organic semiconductor *** Fr-DD model is composed of two fractionalorder carriers(i.e.,electrons and holes)continuity equations coupled with Poisson’s *** treating the current density as constants within each pair of consecutive grid nodes,a linear Caputo’s fractional-order ordinary differential equation(FrODE)can be produced,and its analytic solution gives an approximation to the carrier *** convergence of the solver is guaranteed by implementing a successive over-relaxation(SOR)mechanism on each loop of Gummel’s *** on our derivations,it can be shown that the Scharfetter–Gummel discretization method is essentially a special case of our *** addition,the consistency and convergence of the two core algorithms are proved,with three numerical examples designed to demonstrate the accuracy and computational performance of this ***,we validate the Fr-DD model for a steady-state organic field effect transistor(OFET)by fitting the simulated transconductance and output curves to the experimental data.
