The effects of local variations in conditions on carbon storage and release in the continental mantle

Recent advances indicate that the amount of carbon released by gradual degassing from the mantle needs to be revised upwards, whereas the carbon supplied by plumes may have been overestimated in the *** in rock types and oxidation state may be very local and exert strong influences on carbon storage and release mechanisms. Deep subduction may be prevented by diapirism in thick sedimentary packages,whereas carbonates in thinner sequences may be subducted. Carbonates stored in the mantle transition zone will melt when they heat up, recognized by coupled stable isotope systems(e.g. Mg, Zn, Ca). There is no single ‘mantle oxygen fugacity’, particularly in the thermal boundary layer(TBL) and lowermost lithosphere, where very local mixtures of rock types coexist. Carbonate-rich melts from either subduction or melting of the uppermost asthenosphere trap carbon by redox freezing or as carbonate-rich dykes in this zone. Deeply derived, reduced melts may form further diamond reservoirs, recognized as polycrystalline diamonds associated with websteritic silicate minerals. Carbon is released by either edge-driven convection,which tears sections of the TBL and lower lithosphere down so that they melt by a mixture of heating and oxidation, or by lateral advection of solids beneath rifts. Both mechanisms operate at steps in lithosphere thickness and result in carbonate-rich melts, explaining the spatial association of craton edges and carbonate-rich magmatism. High-pressure experiments on individual rock types, and increasingly on reactions between rocks and melts, are fine-tuning our understanding of processes and turning up unexpected results that are not seen in studies of single rocks. Future research should concentrate on elucidating local variations and integrating these with the interpretation of geophysical signals. KLnF_(4):Yb^(3+),er^(3+)/Ho^(3+)(Ln=Y,Yb,Gd)phosphors were prepared by solid-state reaction *** each of the Yb^(3+)/er^(3+)and Yb^(3+)/Ho^(3+)co-doped phosphors independently,phase confirmation and morphological examination were accomplished using the X-ray diffraction technique and scanning electron microscope analysis.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows the charge state and existence of lanthanides and *** luminescence emissions of green and red colour were detected for the synthesized *** changes in the upconverted emission intensities and colour output pertaining to the change of the lanthanide host matrix along with dopants were investigated for the prepared *** the upconversion luminescence,erbium-doped samples exhibit a predominance of red emission while holmium-doped samples display a prevalence of green *** rare-earth er/Ho doped KYbF4shows strong red emission compared to other ***_(4):Yb,er/Ho exhibits relatively significant green upconve rsion emissions,while Yb,er-doped KGdF_(4)host displays a 10-fold increase in green/red emission ratio with an increase in the input power of 20-780 *** photoluminescence studies and decay curve analysis were carried out using UV light excitation for the developed phosphors.A higher lifetime of 2.2 ms was measured for the downshifting red emission in the Ho doped KYbF_(4)*** study suggests a potential for colour tunability in the upconversion and downshifting emissions through host modifications to the fluoride phosphor.

This paper presents an investigation of the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete(RC)structures in which shear walls are the main lateral load-resisting elements and the participation of flat slab floor systems is not considered in the seismic design *** this regard,the behavior of six prototype structures(with different heights and plan layouts)is investigated through nonlinear static and time history analyses,implemented in the OpenSees *** results of the analyses are presented in terms of the behavior of the slab-column connections and their mode of failure at different loading ***,the global response of the buildings is discussed in terms of some parameters,such as lateral overstrength due to the gravity flat slab-column *** to the nonlinear static analyses,in structures in which the slab-column connections were designed only for gravity loads,the slab-column connections exhibited a punching mode of failure even in the early stages of ***,the punching failure was eliminated in structures in which a minimum transverse reinforcement recommended in ACI 318(2019)was provided in the slabs at joint ***,despite neglecting the contribution of gravity flat slab-column frames in the lateral load resistance of the structures,a relatively significant overstrength was imposed on the structures by the gravity frames.

A method based on regression modeling was developed to discern the contribution of component chemicals to the toxicity of highly complex, environmentally realistic mixtures of disinfection byproducts（DBPs）. Chemical disinfection of drinking water forms DBP *** of concerns about possible reproductive and developmental toxicity, a whole mixture（WM） of DBPs produced by chlorination of a water concentrate was administered as drinking water to Sprague–Dawley（S–D） rats in a multigenerational study. Age of puberty acquisition,i.e., preputial separation（PPS） and vaginal opening（VO）, was examined in male and female offspring, respectively. When compared to controls, a slight, but statistically significant delay in puberty acquisition was observed in females but not in males. WM-induced differences in the age at puberty acquisition were compared to those reported in S–D rats administered either a defined mixture（DM） of nine regulated DBPs or individual DBPs. Regression models were developed using individual animal data on age at PPS or VO from the DM study. Puberty acquisition data reported in the WM and individual DBP studies were then compared with the DM models. The delay in puberty acquisition observed in the WM-treated female rats could not be distinguished from delays predicted by the DM regression model, suggesting that the nine regulated DBPs in the DM might account for much of the delay observed in the WM. This method is applicable to mixtures of other types of chemicals and other endpoints.

Feralization is an important evolutionary process,but the mechanisms behind it remain poorly ***,we use the ancient fiber crop ramie(Boehmeria nivea(L.)Gaudich.)as a model to investigate genomic changes associated with both domestication and *** first produced a chromosome-scale de novo genome assembly of feral ramie and investigated structural variations between feral and domesticated ramie ***,we gathered 915 accessions from 23 countries,comprising cultivars,major landraces,feral populations,and the wild *** on whole-genome resequencing of these accessions,we constructed the most comprehensive ramie genomic variation map to ***,demographic,and admixture signal detection analyses indicated that feral ramie is of exoferal or exo-endo origin,i.e.,descended from hybridization between domesticated ramie and the wild progenitor or ancient *** ramie has higher genetic diversity than wild or domesticated ramie,and genomic regions affected by natural selection during feralization differ from those under selection during *** analyses showed that feral and domesticated ramie have similar ecological niches that differ substantially from the niche of the wild progenitor,and three environmental variables are associated with habitat-specific adaptation in feral *** findings advance our understanding of feralization,providing a scientific basis for the excavation of new crop germplasm resources and offering novel insights into the evolution of feralization in nature.

Local agro-industrial wastes-based particleboards and fiberboards in egypt are manufactured mainly from sugarcane-bagasse and flax *** panels are used in decorations and interior *** paper aimed to broaden their market to be utilized in local low-cost and simple building envelope retrofitting packages in-stead of conventional packages that depend on imported expanded polystyrene and wet-rendered gypsum *** conductivities of various existing sugarcane-bagasse and flax-shives-based panels were measured to be used in developing multilayered interior claddings with adequate thermal insulating performance to increase the thermal mass of a validated non-insulated case-study residential building as recommended by the egyptian Code for energy efficiency of Residential *** retrofitted using the developed cladding assemblies were simulated using Design Builder to determine their achieved annual energy savings and predict their *** conductivities of sugarcane-bagasse and flax-shives-based particleboards were lower than wood-based cladding panels,with the range of 0.05-0.1166 W/***,the thermal conductivities of sugarcane-bagasse fiberboard had the range of 0.0926-01,111 W/mK which is significantly lower than wood-based *** results showed that both models retrofitted,sugarcane bagasse-based and flax shives-based,achieved better energy savings,5.07%and 5.04%,than the conventionally retrofitted model,3.73%.Furthermore,the flax-shives-based model showed higher profitability,with positive income achieved in the 15th year,than a con-ventionally retrofitted model,achieved in the 20th year,and the sugarcane-bagasse-based model,achieved in the 19th ***,it was recommended that although flax-shives-based wall claddings were usually 14-20%thicker than sugarcane-bagasse-based claddings,they provided similarly high annual energy savings with lower initial costs and higher profitability.

A common mechanism in plant hormone signaling is hormonedependent degradation of downstream *** the case of strigolactone(SL)signaling,one group of SUPPReSSOR OF MORe AXILLARY BRANCHeS 2(MAX2)1-LIKe(SMXL)proteins undergoes hormone-dependent degradation,while another does not.A recent publication in Molecular Plant by Li et al.(2024)illustrates that mixing and matching a SMXL resistant to SL degradation with a SMXL sensitive to SL degradation finely tunes SL *** phenomenon could reflect a naturally occurring negative transdominance,which is a dominantnegative effect arising not from a mutant allele of the same gene but rather from a different gene altogether(Veitia,2007).This trans-acting protein attenuates SL-dependent degradation of the SMXL *** findings have exciting implications for how different SMXL combinations could result in a gradient of SL responses.

Fuel cell stack design and modelling with a double-stage boost converter coupled to a single-phase inverter

A comprehensive proton-exchange membrane fuel cell stack model was developed and integrated with a two-stage DC/DC boost *** was directly coupled to a single-phase(two levels-four pulses)inverter without a *** pulse-width modu-lation signal was used to independently regulate every converter *** converter was modelled using a MATLAB®/Simulink®environment and an appropriate voltage control *** analysis features of the suggested circuit were created and,through established experiments,the simulation results were verified.A single-phase(two levels-four pulses)inverter control circuit was tested and it produced a pure sinusoidal waveform with voltage *** matches the voltage of the network in terms of amplitude and frequency.A sinusoidal pulse-width modulation approach was performed using a single-phase(two levels-four pulses)pulse-width modulation *** results demonstrated an enhancement in the standard of the output wave and tuned the dead time with a reduction of 63μs compared with 180μs in conventional techniques.
