The physiographic characterization of a basin is a fundamental element as it defines the hydrological behavior of that basin. The present work deals with the development and implementation of a tool that allows calculating in an automated manner the physiographic parameters of a basin, as well as those of the surface runoff and main river, besides other graphic elements: hypsometric curve, equivalent rectangle and profile of the main river. Such a tool was developed under Visual basic 6 programming language and the spatial geographic component ArcObjects by ESRI;they enabled the development of a library as a final product (.dll), which can be loaded and implemented in ArcMap software. In the methodology a Conceptual Model was established, from which it was possible to identify the requirements and methods to obtain the parameters, as well as the conception and implementation of the Logical Model that includes the specific functions and also the input structures, processes and data output. Finally, the tool was tested with actual data from El Caracol river basin, located in central-southern Mexico, which showed the easiness and usefulness of it, besides the effectiveness of the results, not leaving aside the time and resources saved by the user when characterizing a basin, compared with other conventional processes.

Effect of Kombucha and Its Non-Polar Components on Morphological Aspects of the Pancreas of Diabetic Rats with Streptozotocin

Objective: to evaluate the protective effect of kombucha and its components not polar, in pancreas of diabetic rats treated with streptozotocin. Material and methods: ninety-six male Wistar rats of 120 to 170 g of PC were used;four groups of 24 animals were formed: control (GC), control treatment (GCTx), kombucha treatment (GTxK) and treatment with non-polar components of kombucha (GTxCNP). Diabetes was induced in the last three groups with an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin at a dose of 65 mg/kg BW. At the same time, treatment was started in the different groups;GC and GCTx groups were administered, orally, 1 ml of sterile saline solution;to the GTxK group 324 mg/kg of kombucha;and to GTxCNP 0.006 mg/kg of the non-polar components. For the histopathological study, pancreas samples were obtained on days 1, 7, 14 and 21 and fixed in formalin. They were processed with the histological technique, 5-micron-thick sections were made and stained with the hematoxylin-eosin technique. Finally, the number of islets of Langerhans per field observed with the 10x objective was quantified. The results were subjected to a one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s test (p Results: Significant changes in the number of islets were observed in histological sections of the pancreas. The groups treated with streptozotocin showed a significant decrease in the number of islets 7 days after starting treatment;Likewise, their number was lower in the GCTx group compared to the GTxK and GTxCNP groups (p ≤ 0.05). At 14 and 21 days, the lowest number of islets was maintained, although only in the GCTx and GTxK groups (p ≤ 0.05). Streptozotocin is a drug that can be used in rats to induce an experimental model of diabetes with an effect that can last up to 21 days. Conclusions: This fermented beverage and its non-polar components can be a complementary treatment alternative for diabetes mellitus, since it prevents further damage to the β cells of the pancreas and the Islets of Langerh

This report presents a case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma(e RMS) located in the left maxillary sinus and invading the orbital cavity in a ten-year-old male patient who was treated at a referral *** images provided from the computed tomography showed a heterogeneous mass with soft-tissue density,occupying part of the left half of the face inside the maxillary sinus,and infiltrating and destroying the bone structure of the maxillary sinus,left orbit,ethmoidal cells,nasal cavity,and sphenoid *** analysis of the histological sections revealed an undifferentiated malignant neoplasm infiltrating the skeletal muscle *** immunohistochemical analysis was positive for the antigens:MyoD 1,myogenin,desmin,and Ki67(100% positivity in neoplastic cells),allowing the identification of the tumour as an eR *** treatment protocol included initial chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and finally *** total time of the treatment was nine months,and in 18-mo of follow-up period did not show no local recurrences and a lack of visual impairment.

This paper describes our findings regarding the accumulation of motile bacteria at the rear of a confined obstacle and the physical description of the mechanisms at play. We found that the modification of flow due to the presence of the obstacle produces vorticity that favor the diffusion of bacteria towards the downstream stagnation point. By testing different flow rates, we determined the range in which bacteria accumulate. More interestingly, we observe that hydrodynamic interaction between the bacteria and the top and bottom surface of the microfluidic chip maintain the bacteria in the region where the flow velocity is lower than their own velocity. In the case of non-motile bacteria, this effect is not observed because bacteria follow the streamlines as passive tracers do.

Patterns of Herbal Combination for the Treatment of Insomnia Commonly Employed by Highly Experienced Chinese Medicine Physicians

Objective：To explore the most effective herbal combinations commonly used by highly experienced Chinese medicine（CM） physicians for the treatment of ***：We collected and analyzed data related to insomnia treatment from the clinics of 7 highly experienced CM physicians in *** sample included 162 patients and 460 consultations in *** outcomes,such as sleep quality and sleep time per day,were manually collected from the medical records by trained CM *** data mining methods,support vector machine（SVM）,logistic regression and decision tree,and multifactor dimensionality reduction（MDR）,were used to determine and confirm the herbal combinations that resulted in positive outcomes in patients suffering from ***：Results show that MDR is the most efficient method to predict the effective herbal *** the MDR model,we identified several combinations of herbs with 100%positive outcomes,such as stir-fried spine date seed,Szechwan lovage rhizome,and prepared thinleaf milkwort root;white peony root,golden thread,and stir-fried spine date seed;and Asiatic cornelian cherry fruit with fresh ***：Results indicate that herbal combinations are effective treatments for patients with insomnia compared with individual *** is also shown that MDR is a potent data mining method to identify the herbal combination with high rates of positive outcome.

AIM： To investigate the potential of bone marrow mononuclear cells （BM-MCs） in the regeneration of hepatic lesions induced by Schistosoma mansoni （***） chronic infection. METHODS： Female mice chronically infected with *** were treated with BM-MCs obtained from male green fluorescent protein （GFP） transgenic mice by intravenous or intralobular injections. Control mice received injections of saline in similar conditions, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） assay for transforming growth factor-beta （TGF-β）, polymerase chain reaction （PCR） for GFP DNA, immunofluorescence and morphometric studies were performed. RESULTS： Transplanted GFP^＋ cells migrated to granuloma areas and reduced the percentage of liver fibrosis. The presence of donor-derived cells was confirmed by Fluorescence in situ hybridization （FISH） analysis for detection of cells bearing Y chromosome and by PCR analysis for detection of GFP DNA. The levels of TGF-β, a cytokine associated with fibrosis deposition, in liver fragments of mice submitted to therapy were reduced. The number of oval cells in liver sections of ***-infected mice increased 3-4 fold after transplantation. A partial recovery in albumin expression, which is decreased upon infection with ***, was found in livers of infected mice after cellular therapy. CONCLUSION： In conclusion, transplanted BMCs migrate to and reduce the damage of chronic fibrotic liver lesions caused by ***.

background： Beef cattle breeding programs in Brazil have placed greater emphasis on the genomic study of reproductive traits of males and females due to their economic importance. In this study, genome-wide associations were assessed for scrotal circumference at 210 d of age, scrotal circumference at 420 d of age, age at first calving, and age at second calving, in Canchim beef cattle. Data quality control was conducted resulting in 672,778 SNPs and 392 ***： Associated SNPs were observed for scrotal circumference at 420 d of age（435 SNPs）, followed by scrotal circumference at 210 d of age（12 SNPs）, age at first calving（six SNPs）, and age at second calving（four SNPs）. We investigated whether significant SNPs were within genic or surrounding regions. Biological processes of genes were associated with immune system, multicellular organismal process, response to stimulus, apoptotic process, cellular component organization or biogenesis, biological adhesion, and ***： Few associations were observed for scrotal circumference at 210 d of age, age at first calving, and age at second calving, reinforcing their polygenic inheritance and the complexity of understanding the genetic architecture of reproductive traits. Finding many associations for scrotal circumference at 420 d of age in various regions of the Canchim genome also reveals the difficulty of targeting specific candidate genes that could act on fertility; nonetheless,the high linkage disequilibrium between loci herein estimated could aid to overcome this issue. Therefore, al relevant information about genomic regions influencing reproductive traits may contribute to target candidate genes for further investigation of causal mutations and aid in future genomic studies in Canchim cattle to improve the breeding program.
