Influence of indoor airflow on airborne disease transmission in a classroom

It has been widely accepted that the most effective way to mitigate airborne disease transmission in an indoor space is to increase the ventilation airflow,measured in air change per hour(ACH).However,increasing ACH did not effectively prevent the spread of *** better understand the role of ACH and airflow large-scale patterns,a comprehensive fully transient computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulation of two-phase flows based on a discrete phase model(DPM)was performed in a university classroom setting with people *** investigations encompass various particle sizes,ventilation layouts,and flow *** findings demonstrated that the particle size threshold at which particles are deemed airborne is highly influenced by the background flow strength and large-scale flow pattern,ranging from 5µm to 10µm in the cases *** effects of occupants are significant and must be precisely accounted for in respiratory particle transport *** enhanced ventilation design(UFAD-CDR)for university classrooms is introduced that places a premium on mitigating airborne disease *** to the baseline design at the same ACH,this design successfully reduced the maximum number density of respiratory particles by up to 85%.A novel airflow-related parameter,Horizontality,is introduced to quantify and connect the large-scale airflow pattern with indoor aerosol *** underscores that ACH alone cannot ensure or regulate air *** addition to the necessary ACH for air exchange,minimizing horizontal bulk motion is essential for reducing aerosol transmissibility within the room.

BACKGROUND Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis(CTX)is a rare autosomal recessive lipid-storage disorder caused by mutations in *** manifestations in CTX are rare and nonspecific,and they often lead to considerable diagnostic and treatment *** SUMMARY A 33-year-old female patient admitted to the psychiatric ward for presentation of delusions,hallucinations,and behavioral disturbance is *** patient presented with cholestasis,cataract,Achilles tendon xanthoma,and cerebellar signs in adulthood and with intellectual disability and learning difficulties in *** the characteristic CTX findings on imaging were obtained,a pathological examination of the Achilles tendon xanthoma was *** therapy was then initiated after the diagnosis was clarified by genetic *** hospitalization in the psychiatric ward,the nonspecific psychiatric manifestations of the patient posed difficulty in *** the patient’s history of CTX was identified,the patient was diagnosed with organic schizophrenia-like disorder,and psychotic symptoms were controlled by replacement therapy combined with antipsychotic *** Psychiatrists should be aware of CTX,its psychiatric manifestations,and clinical features and avoid misdiagnosis of CTX for timely intervention.

If an explicit time scheme is used in a numerical model, the size of the integration time step is typically limited by the spatial resolution. This study develops a regular latitude–longitude grid-based global three-dimensional tracer transport model that is computationally stable at large time-step sizes. The tracer model employs a finite-volume flux-form semiLagrangian transport scheme in the horizontal and an adaptively implicit algorithm in the vertical. The horizontal and vertical solvers are coupled via a straightforward operator-splitting technique. Both the finite-volume scheme's onedimensional slope-limiter and the adaptively implicit vertical solver's first-order upwind scheme enforce monotonicity. The tracer model permits a large time-step size and is inherently conservative and monotonic. Idealized advection test cases demonstrate that the three-dimensional transport model performs very well in terms of accuracy, stability, and efficiency. It is possible to use this robust transport model in a global atmospheric dynamical core.

Gas-produced water is an accompanying wastewater in the natural gas extraction process,and it is a potential liquid lithium resource that contains a considerable amount of *** study investigated the feasibility of using manganese-based ion sieves to adsorb and extract lithium from gas-produced *** we focused on the applicability of two different granulation methods,extrusion and droplet,in gas-produced water *** types of H_(1.33)Mn_(1.67)O_(4) particles were prepared by the extrusion method(EHMO)and the droplet method(DHMO).The porosity of DHMO was much higher than that of EHMO,and the adsorption performance of DHMO increased with the decrease of binder *** prepared with a binder concentration of 0.14 g·ml^(-1)exhibited the best adsorption performance in gas-produced water,and the li^(+)adsorption capacity could reach 25.14 mg·g^(-1).In gas-produced water,the adsorption equilibrium of DHMO only took 9 h,and the adsorption process conformed to the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic *** pore diffusion model(PDM)could well describe its adsorption ***,DHMO showed a great selectivity to li^(+),and the selectivity order of DHMO in gas-produced water was li^(+)>Ba^(2+)>>Mg^(2+),Ca^(2+),Sr^(2+)>>Na^(+)>>K^(+).After 20 cycles,the li^(+)adsorption capacity was still higher than 17.30 mg·g^(-1),and the rate of manganese dissolution was less than 1%.

We study the early work scheduling problem on identical parallel machines in order to maximize the total early work,i.e.,the parts of non-preemptive jobs that are executed before a common due *** preprocessing and constructing an auxiliary instance which has several good properties,for any desired accuracy,we propose an efficient polynomial time approximation scheme with running time O(f(1/ε)n),where n is the number of jobs and f(1/ε)is exponential in 1/ε,and a fully polynomial time approximation scheme with running time O(1/ε^(2m+1)+n)when the number of machines is fixed.

Solid polymer electrolytes(SPEs)have become increasingly important in advanced lithium-ion batteries(liBs)due to their improved safety and mechanical properties compared to organic liquid ***-linked polymers have the potential to further improve the mechanical property without trading off li-ion *** this study,focusing on a recently developed cross-linked SPE,i.e.,the one based on poly(vinylene carbonate)-poly(ethylene oxide)cross-linked network(PVCN),we used solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)techniques to investigate the fundamental interaction between the chain segments and li ions,as well as the lithium-ion *** utilizing homonuclear/heteronuclear correlation,CP(cross-polarization)kinetics,and spin-lattice relaxation experiments,etc.,we revealed the structural characteristics and their relations to lithium-ion *** is found that the network formation prevents poly(ethylene oxide)chains from crystallization,which could create sufficient space for segmental tumbling and li-ion co nductio *** such,the mechanical property is greatly improved with even higher li-ion mobilities compared to the poly(vinylene carbonate)or poly(ethylene oxide)based SPE analogues.

We report a case of nontraumatic fat embolism syndrome with large amounts of macrophages with phagocytized fat droplets in the alveoli.A 46‑year‑old male presented with a glass‑cut injury in his little *** wound was debrided and sutured at the hospital,but he was found dead 43 h after *** results showed that the patient had steatohepatitis,accompanied by histological findings of fat droplets in the pulmonary *** the alveoli,we found a large number of macrophages with phagocytized fat droplets that showed *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first report of such a case,and the paper proposes that fat droplets phagocytized by a large number of macrophages may be a characteristic feature of fat embolism,which may be relevant to forensic pathology practice.

liNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2)(NCM811)is the most promising cathode for high-energy li-ion batteries,despite its poor cycling stability that originates from the reactions that occur with the ***,to solve this interfacial issue,a facile electrolytic electrochemical polymerization process was introduced in this paper,and a uniform conductive electrolyte interface(polyaniline)was successfully constructed on the surface of the NCM811 porous electrode(PANI-NCM),which facilitated the charge transfer during charge/*** side reactions at the interface between the cathode and the electrolyte are suppressed,and thereby,the cycling performance and rate capability are considerably ***-NCM delivers an initial capacity of 157.2 mAh·g^(-1)as well as excellent cyclability(capacity retention of 88%after 500 cycles at 2C),whereas the capacity of the bare NCM811 has dropped to 31.3 mAh·g^(-1).In addition,polypyrrole and polythiophene also can be formed through electrolytic electrochemical polymerization process,which provides a practicable tactic to modify the interfacial stability of cathodes for high-energy li-ion batteries.

The auto-parametric resonance of a continuous-beam bridge model subjected to a two-point periodic excitation is experimentally and numerically investigated in this *** auto-parametric resonance experiment of the test model is conducted to observe and measure the auto-parametric resonance of a continuous beam under a two-point excitation on *** parametric vibration equation is established for the test model using the finite-element *** auto-parametric resonance stability of the structure is analyzed by using Newmark's method and the energy-growth exponent *** effects of the phase difference of the two-point excitation on the stability boundaries of auto-parametric resonance are studied for the test *** with the experiment,the numerical instability predictions of auto-parametric resonance are consistent with the test phenomena,and the numerical stability boundaries of auto-parametric resonance agree with the experimental *** a continuous beam bridge,when the ratio of multipoint excitation frequency(applied to the columns)to natural frequency of the continuous girder is approximately equal to 2,the continuous beam may undergo a strong auto-parametric *** with the present experiment and analysis,a hypothesis of Volgograd Bridge's serpentine vibration is discussed.
