An Internet based Distributed Control System (DCS) is presented in this paper for monitoring real time data using ordinary web browser. Each DCS will be connected to the central server which will be the system web server. The proposed system is based on the three-tier client-server model. The application server is written in C#.Net. SQL database server 2005 is used for all the DCSs local database servers and for the system database server. Monitoring real time system alarm and all historical records are considered as part of the proposed system. The North Oil Refineries of Baiji (NORB) in northern Iraq is considered as a case study for the developed system. These refineries have twelve independent DCSs which are connected in a mesh network to form one system similar to an ordinary Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

The energy industry and in particular the Oil Refineries are extremely important elements in Iraq’s infrastructure. A terrorist attack on one oil refinery will have a catastrophic impact on oil production and the whole economy. It can also cause serious damage to the environment and even losses of human lives. The security of information systems and industrial control systems such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Distributed Control System (DCS) used in the oil industry is a major part of infrastructure protection strategy. This paper describes an attempt to use several security procedures to design a secure, robust system for the SCADA and DCS systems currently in use in the North Oil Refinery in the city of Baiji located in northern Iraq.

This paper presents a new concept to implement a tunable filter metamaterial with dual negative refraction composed of ferrite slabs and metallic resonators, including split-ring resonators (SRR), and short wire pairs. The ferrite slabs under an applied magnetics bias provide one magnetic resonance frequency band and the metallic resonators provide another one. The continuous wires within the metamaterials provide the negative permittivity in a wide frequency band covering the two magnetic resonance bands. This type of metamaterialis analyzed in detail, and tunable stop band filters are successfully designed. The effective electromagnetic parameters obtained from the simulation of the S-parameters indicate that metamaterial exhibit negative refraction bands, which can be shifted by changing the magnetic bias.

2,2’-Bithiophene-5-carboxylic acid (BTA) thin-films on platinum (Pt) electrodes were electrochemically prepared in acetonitrile solution containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) and 0.05 M BTA. These films were complexes with several metal ions such as Cu2+, Ag+ and Co2+. Their structural characteristics were compared with those of powder complexes chemically prepared from BTA and the corresponding metal ion. IR and XPS techniques reveal that the film complexes with metal ions have the same structures as the corresponding powder complexes. The electrocatalytic activity of BTA film-metal ions has been investigated toward ascorbic acid (AA) oxidation and compared to that obtained on a free BTA film. BTA film-metal ions exhibit good catalytic proprieties and better detection of AA than a free BTA film. This new propriety allows these films to be used as electrochemical sensors. Practical Method Proposed to Estimate Silting’s Rate in Small and Hillside Dams

The construction of small dams and hillside reservoirs is a common practice for dealing with erratic and unevenly distributed rainfalls in arid and semi arid areas. Moreover, these small hydraulics structures are recommended as a solution to adapt to climate change in rural areas. They are fundamental for the sustainability of the water resources. However, these dams are potential sinks for upstream sediment. Therefore, it would be useful to monitor and measure the amount of sediments in small dams because it is necessary to understand siltation and better functioning of these vital structures. This control and these measurements require the application of the bathymetry or topography surveys which is too expensive for the responsible of these small dams. In this context, this paper proposes a simple and low cost method called: Triangulation of the estimated silted level. This method is based on direct measurement of the accessible silted level in dam. This new method is compared with another method based on the initial Elevation-Capacity curve of dam, usually used when the bathymetry is not attainable. The results of both of them have been verified with those of the bathymetry and electrical tomography methods and validated the proposal method as the most approximate. Therefore, this method is recommended as a new direct and simple technique to evaluate the amount of silting in small dams and hillside reservoirs.

Introduction: The coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, is the pathogen responsible for an acute respiratory distress syndrome that broke out in the Wuhan region and became a pandemic in early 2020. The clinical presentation of COVID-19 is polymorphic, dominated by respiratory symptoms and may be associated with cardiovascular, digestive and renal complications. The prognosis depends mainly on the patient’s condition. Acute kidney injury (AKI) during severe SARS CoV-2 infection is frequent, multifactorial and associated with excess mortality. Its pathophysiology has not been fully elucidated, and seems to involve both direct and indirect mechanisms. The aim of our work is to describe the epidemiological, clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic profile of patients presenting with AKI and confirmed COVID-19 disease, and determine the prognostic factors associated with death. Material and Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted at IBN SINA Hospital, Rabat, between March 2020 and November 2021. We included patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who developed AKI either on admission or during hospitalization. Results: We enrolled 95 patients with a mean age of 68 ± 13 years and a M/F sex ratio of 1.9. Diabetes was present in 33.7% of cases and hypertension in 32.6%. Most patients had influenzalike illness, lymphopenia and hyperferritinemia. Median creatinine on admission was 32 mg/l [17 - 64]. Temporary catheter hemodialysis was used in 21% of cases, with hyperkalemia for purification and ultrafiltration. There were 63 deaths, it was statically significantly related (p Conclusion: AKI in COVID-19 is multifactorial, and may be secondary to sepsis, hemodynamic failure or direct viral toxicity to the kidney. In our study, mortality was secondary to viral toxicity, clinical presentation, intensive care unit management and recourse to hemodialysis.

Carob Origin Classification by FTIR Spectroscopy and Chemometrics

The goal of this study was to use Fourier transform mid-infrared （FTIR） spectroscopy for discrimination of samples of pods and seeds of carob from three Moroccan regions. The origin of samples Pods and seeds of carob could be distinguished from their IR spectra and this measurement was used for discriminate analysis. A multivariate analysis procedure based on the combined use of Hierarchical Cluster Aanalysis （HCA） and Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis （PLS-DA） was tested and provided good classification results. Three distinctive clusters were recognised, related to the three Moroccan regions. Afterwards, PLS-DA was used for the discrimination and classification of the origin of the various Pods and seeds of carob samples. The results demonstrated that the combined use of FTIR and chemometric analysis （cluster analysis and discrimination by PLS- DA） can be used to rapidly and simply determine the origin of carob pulpe samples.
