Oxidative coupling of methane over (Na_2WO_4+Mn or Ce)/SiO_2 catalysts:In situ measurement of electrical conductivity

The effects of manganese oxide or ceria promoters on the performance of Na2WO4/SiO2 catalysts for oxidative coupling of methane （OCM） are reported. The OCM reaction was performed in a continuous-flow microreactor at 800℃, atmospheric pressure and under GHSV = 13200 ml·gCat^-1·h^-*** were characterized by in situ conductivity measurement, FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, SEM and temperature programmed reduction analysis. Manganese oxide promoted Na2WO4/SiO2 is considered as one of the active and selective catalysts for OCM reaction. Ceria with high oxygen storage capacity is selected as a proper oxygen activator, providing a higher concentration of the oxy-anion species which is suitable for OCM reaction and compared with manganese oxide. Electrical conductivity of the catalysts was measured in OCM reaction under oxidizing atmosphere, i.e. in the absence of methane. It was found that the trimetallic catalysts, i.e. the catalysts having sodium, tungsten and Mn or Ce species, exhibited similar crystalline structures and morphologies, which lead to suitable bulk properties for the formation of an active and selective catalyst. However, tungsten had significant effect on the texture and redox properties of the catalysts. It was also shown that the crystalline structure of the bimetallic （Na＋Mn or Ce）/SiO2 samples was quite different. This reveals that the metal oxides have significant effect on the extent of crystallization, taking place in the course of interaction of sodium with silica support. Similar conductivities and catalytic performances of （Na2WO4＋Mn or Ce）/SiO2 catalysts propose that the ability of Na2WO4/SiO2 for utilizing oxy-anions formed in presence of different metal oxides is limited.

Iranian Medical Staff’s Perception of the <i>All Saints</i>TV S

The present study was an attempt to explore the Iranian medical staff’s perception of the All Saints TV series. 199 participants including doctors, nurses, interns, and paramedics took part in this survey study which was done in 2011. A 17-item Likert scale questionnaire was developed by the team of researchers to gather further evidence on the issues raised by the participants in the focus group which was formed in order to delve into their thoughts, attitudes, and feelings about the mentioned program. The supportive and non-blaming nature of the working relationship among the treatment team, their respect for the patients, their strong team work, the accuracy and precision of the presented medical information, and the discipline and sense of responsibility on the part of the medical staff were among the most frequent issues being mentioned and noticed by the participants. In addition, the majority of the participants considered the demonstrated model for providing healthcare services to be an efficient one;however, they believed that it was not possible to apply that model in the Iranian hospitals mainly due to the cultural differences between the two contexts and the current regulations in Iran. The participants were also observed to be only moderately satisfied with the system they were working in. It seems that healthcare systems in the developed countries can be used as models to identify the problems with the existing healthcare system in Iran. Authorities need to take appropriate measures to resolve such problems. The possible solutions and actions have been suggested in the present article.

Background and aim:The liver is susceptible to ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI)during hepatic surgery,when the vessels are compressed to control bleeding,or liver transplantation,when there is an obligate period of *** hallmark of IRI comprises mitochondrial dysfunction,which generates reactive oxygen species,and cell death through necrosis or ***(CsA),which is a well-known immunosuppressive agent that inhibits calcineurin,has the additional effect of inhibiting the mito-chondrial permeability transition pore(mPTP),thereby,preventing mitochondrial swelling and ***-811,which is the nonimmunosuppressive analog of CsA,has a similar effect on the *** this study,we tested the effect of both agents on mitigating warm hepatic IRI in a murine *** and methods:Before ischemic insult,the mice were administered with intraperitoneal normal saline(control);CsA at 2.5,10,or 25 mg/kg;or NIM-811 at 10 mg/***,the mice were subjected to partial warm hepatic ischemia by selective pedicle clamping for 60 min,followed by 6 h of recovery after *** alanine transaminase(ALT)was measured,and the liver tissue was examined histologically for the presence of apoptosis and the levels of inflammatory ***:Compared with the control mice,the mice treated with 10 and 25 mg/kg of CsA and NIM-811 had significantly lower ALT levels(P<0.001,0.007,and 0.031,respectively).Moreover,the liver tissue showed reduced histological injury scores after treatment with CsA at 2.5,10,and 25 mg/kg and NIM-811(P=0.041,<0.001,0.003,and 0.043,respectively)and significant decrease in apoptosis after treatment with CsA at all doses(P=0.012,0.007,and<0.001,respectively).Levels of the pro-inflammatory cyto-kines,particularly interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-2,IL-4,IL-10,and keratinocyte chemoattractant/human growth-regulated oncogene significantly decreased in the mice treated with the highest dose of CsA(25 mg/kg)than those in the control ***

Improvement in the protective performance and adhesion of polypyrrole coating on AZ31 Mg alloys

The electrochemical synthesis of polypyrrole(Ppy) coating on AZ31 magnesium alloy was successfully achieved in a solution containing sodium salicylate and monomer of pyrrole through cyclic voltammetry *** effect of potential range,passivation pretreatment and number of cycles of polymerization on the quality and protective performance of the coatings was evaluated using surface analysis and electrochemical *** taking the advantage of charge transfer resistance,current density,corrosion potential,optical microscopy images and SEM micrographs,the optimum condition of synthesis of a Ppy coating with the best adhesion and corrosion protection was *** optimal PPy coating synthesized over AZ31 increases the polarization resistance and decreases the corrosion current more than one order of magnitude and shift the corrosion potential about 200 mV toward nobler *** SEM studies showed that Ppy coating have cauliflower morphology of Ppy grains with a diameter ranging from 20 nm to 60 nm.

Fischer-Tropsch synthesis over ruthenium-promoted Co/Al_2O_3 catalyst with different reduction procedures

The effect of reduction procedure on catalyst properties, activity and products selectivity of ruthenium-promoted Co/γ-Al2O3 catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis （FTS） was investigated. Catalyst samples were reduced with different reduction gas compositions and passivated before being characterized by TPR and XRD techniques. Different activity and product selectivity analyses were also performed. These results showed that the catalyst dispersion, particle size, and the degree of reduction changed with different reduction gas compositions, which were resulted from the water partial pressures in reduction process that give varying degrees of interaction with the support. It has been suggested that the FTS activity of cobalt catalyst was directly dependent on the catalyst reducibility. A reduction gas with a molar ratio of H2Prle = 1 was used to prevent the formation of Co-support compound during catalyst reduction.

Novel aromatic-aliphatic poly（amide-imide）s containing chiral units in the main chain and hydroxyl benzamide units in the side chain have been obtained from the step-growth polymerization of 3,5-diamino-N-（4-hydroxyphenyl） benzamide （2） with different chiral diacid chlorides （la-le）. Theoretical calculations were done by means of computational chemistry methods to narrate the stable conformation and orientation of each diacid chloride monomers under reaction conditions. These polymers were characterized by conventional techniques. The resulting polymers show good thermal stability. Other physical properties of polymers including crystallinity, inherent viscosity and morphological characteristics were also studied.

The Properties of the Space-Charge and Net Current Density in Magnetized Plasmas

A hydrodynamic model is used to investigate the properties of positive space-charge and net current density in the sheath region of magnetized, collisional plasmas with warm positive ions. It is shown that an increase in the ion-neutral collision frequency, as well as the magnitude of the external magnetic field, leads to an increase in the net current density across the sheath region. The results also show that the accumulation of positive ions in the sheath region increases by increasing the ion-neutral collision frequency and the magnitude of the magnetic field. In addition, it is seen that an increase in the positive ion temperatures causes a decrease in the accumulation of positive ions and the net current density in the sheath region.

Progressive collapse resisting capacity of reinforced concrete load bearing wall structures

Reinforced concrete(RC) load bearing wall is widely used in high-rise and mid-rise buildings. Due to the number of walls in plan and reduction in lateral force portion, this system is not only stronger against earthquakes, but also more economical. The effect of progressive collapse caused by removal of load bearing elements, in various positions in plan and stories of the RC load bearing wall system was evaluated by nonlinear dynamic and static analyses. For this purpose, three-dimensional model of 10-story structure was selected. The analysis results indicated stability, strength and stiffness of the RC load-bearing wall system against progressive collapse. It was observed that the most critical condition for removal of load bearing walls was the instantaneous removal of the surrounding walls located at the corners of the building where the sections of the load bearing elements were changed. In this case, the maximum vertical displacement was limited to 6.3 mm and the structure failed after applying the load of 10 times the axial load bored by removed elements. Comparison between the results of the nonlinear dynamic and static analyses demonstrated that the "load factor" parameter was a reasonable criterion to evaluate the progressive collapse potential of the structure.

Identifying Sky Conditions in Iran from MODIS Terra and Aqua Cloud Products

Clouds can influence climate through many complex interactions within the hydrological cycle. Due to the important effects of cloud cover on climate, it is essential to study its variability over certain geographical areas. This study provides a spatial and temporal distribution of sky conditions, cloudy, partly cloudy, and clear days, in Iran. Cloud fraction parameters were calculated based on the cloud product （collection 6_L2） obtained from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiorneter （MODIS） sensors on board the Terra （MOD06） and Aqua （MYD06） satellites. The cloud products were collected daily from January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2014 （12 years） with a spatial resolution of 5 km × 5 km. First, the cloud fraction data were converted into a regular geographic coordinate network over Iran. Then, the estimations from both sensors were analyzed. Results revealed that the maximum annual frequency of cloudy days occurs along the southern shores of the Caspian Sea, while the minimum annual frequency occurs in southeast Iran. On average, the annual number of cloudy and clear-sky days was 88 and 256 d from MODIS Terra, as compared to 96 and 244 d from MODIS Aqua. Generally, cloudy and partly cloudy days decrease from north to south, and MODIS Aqua overestimates the cloudy and partly cloudy days compared to MODIS Terra.
