Spatially resolved investigation of flame particle interaction in a two dimensional model packed bed

This study investigates the interaction between a premixed methane-air flame and particles inside a model packed *** opacity of the spherical packed beds to visible light poses a major barrier to the implementation of highly resolved optical diagnostics,so that no detailed experimental data were so far available for the validation of numerical ***,a two-dimensional cylindrical packed bed design is set up,which enables direct line-of-sight optical measurements without loss of spatial reso-lution over the fluid region between the *** this study,the case of cold metallic cylindrical particles(T=377 K)relevant to start-up of a reactor is investigated using internal particle cooling,which also allows cylinder specific heat transfer rate measurements by differential temperature measurements on the coolant *** two dimensional assumption is first verified by measuring the inflow ve-locity and cylinder temperature profile along the *** imaging is then per-formed using a telecentric lens to observe the position and geometry of the two-dimensional flame front with respect to the surrounding cylinders without loss of ***,the cylinder-specific flame to cylinder heat transfer rates and cylinder surface temperature are *** the flame is closely surrounded by the three cooled cylinders,intense heat transfer is observed in this region corresponding to 25±2.5%of the flame thermal *** were stabilised at different positions depending on inflow velocity and equivalence ratio,and a direct correlation between flame to cylinder stand-off distance and the heat transfer rate normalised to the flame thermal power was found for both top and side ***,sidewall quenching distances to the curved cylinder surfaces were evaluated,and seem to be influenced by the presence of a warm recirculation zone behind the *** investigation provides fully resolved flame front position and heat tra

In this paper, a photonic crystal fiber(PCF) with a dispersion-engineered and high nonlinear coefficient has been designed for supercontinuum generation(SCG) and frequency comb generation(FCG). The proposed PCF has a Si_(3)N_(4) rod in the core. This rod provides more optical confinement in the core by increasing the refractive index of the core. This high confinement reduces the effective mode area of PCF and thus increases the nonlinear coefficient.

Comparative CFD-DEM study of flow regimes in spout-fluid beds

Spout-fluid beds are unique systems that require thorough study prior to their industrial *** this study,the hydrodynamics of spout-fluid beds were investigated using 3D computational fluid dy-namics coupled with discrete element method(CFD-DEM).Three flow regimes,including jet-in-fluidized bed,spouting-with-aeration,and intermediate/spout-fluidization were studied,and the particle mixing was quantified in these regimes using the Lacey mixing *** results showed that both axial and lateral mixing rates are better in jet-in-fluidized bed and the spouting-with-aeration flow regimes,with the axial mixing being superior to the lateral in all flow *** the diffusivity coefficient revealed that mixing in the jet-in-fluidized bed flow regime is better due to the formation and eruption of bubbles in the ***,the granular temperature was analyzed in all flow regimes,and higher particle velocity fluctuations were observed in the spouting-with-aeration and the jet-in-fluidized bed flow regimes due to the higher spout gas velocity and formation of bubbles in the *** study provides valuable insights into the hydrodynamics of spout-fluid beds in different flow regimes,which can aid in the design and optimization of spout-fluid bed reactors for various industrial applications.

Assessment of electrostatic discharge sensitivity of nitrogen-rich heterocyclic energetic compounds and their salts as high energy-density dangerous compounds: A study of structural variables

Nitrogen-rich heterocyclic energetic compounds (NRHECs) and their salts have witnessed widespread synthesis in recent years. The substantial energy-density content within these compounds can lead to potentially dangerous explosive reactions when subjected to external stimuli such as electrical discharge. Therefore, developing a reliable model for predicting their electrostatic discharge sensitivity (ESD) becomes imperative. This study proposes a novel and straightforward model based on the presence of specific groups (-NH2 or -NH-, -N = N+ -O(- )and -NNO2, -ONO2 or -NO2) under certain conditions to assess the ESD of NRHECs and their salts, employing interpretable structural parameters. Utilizing a comprehensive dataset comprising 54 ESD measurements of NRHECs and their salts, divided into 49/5 training/test sets, the model achieves promising results. The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Maximum Error for the training set are reported as 0.16 J, 0.12 J, and 0.5 J, respectively. Notably, the ratios RMSE(training)/RMSE(test), MAE(training)/MAE(test), and Max Error(training)/Max Error(test) are all greater than 1.0, indicating the robust predictive capabilities of the model. The presented model demonstrates its efficacy in providing a reliable assessment of ESD for the targeted NRHECs and their salts, without the need for intricate computer codes or expert involvement. Using satellite-derived land surface temperatures to clarify the spatiotemporal warming trends of the Alborz Mountains in northern Iran

The Alborz Mountains are some of the highest in Iran,and they play an important role in controlling the climate of the country’s northern *** land surface temperature(LST)is an important variable that affects the ecosystem of this *** study investigated the spatiotemporal changes and trends of the nighttime LST in the western region of the Central Alborz Mountains at elevations of 1500-4000 m above sea *** data were extracted for the period of 2000-2021,and the Mann-Kendall nonparametric test was applied to evaluating the changes in the *** results indicated a significant increasing trend for the monthly average LST in May-August along the southern *** the northern and southern aspects showed decreasing trends for the monthly average LST in October,November,and March and an increasing trend in other *** all elevations,the average decadal change in the monthly average LST was more severe along the southern aspect(0.60°C)than along the northern aspect(0.37°C).The LST difference between the northern and southern aspects decreased in the cold months but increased in the hot *** the same elevation,the difference in the lapse rate between the northern and southern aspects was greater in the hot months than in the cold *** increasing elevation,the lapse rate between the northern and southern aspects *** change was concluded to greatly decrease the difference in LST at different elevations for April-July.

Effects of heat stress and long photoperiod on the prostate of rats

Enhanced axonal regeneration and functional recovery of the injured sciatic nerve in a rat model by lithium-loaded electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds

Increasing evidence indicates that engineered nerve grafts have great potential for the regeneration of peripheral nerve injuries(PNIs).While most studies have focused only on the topographical features of the grafts,we have considered both the biophysical and biochemical manipulations in our applied *** achieve this,we fabricated an electrospun nanofibrous scaffold(ENS)containing polylactide nanofibers loaded with lithium(Li)ions,a Wnt/β-catenin signaling *** addition,we seeded human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hADMSCs)onto this engineered scaffold to examine if their differentiation toward Schwann-like cells was *** further examined the efficacy of the scaffolds for nerve regeneration in vivo via grafting in a PNI rat *** results showed that Li-loaded ENSs gradually released Li within 11 d,at concentrations ranging from 0.02 to(3.64±0.10)mmol/L,and upregulated the expression of Wnt/β-catenin target genes(cyclinD1 and c-Myc)as well as those of Schwann cell markers(growth-associated protein 43(GAP43),S100 calcium binding protein B(S100B),glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP),and SRY-box transcription factor 10(SOX10))in differentiated *** the PNI rat model,implantation of Li-loaded ENSs with/without cells improved behavioral features such as sensory and motor functions as well as the electrophysiological characteristics of the injured *** improved function was further validated by histological analysis of sciatic nerves grafted with Li-loaded ENSs,which showed no fibrous connective tissue but enhanced organized myelinated *** potential of Li-loaded ENSs in promoting Schwann cell differentiation of hADMSCs and axonal regeneration of injured sciatic nerves suggests their potential for application in peripheral nerve tissue engineering.

Improvement of Surface Mechanical and Tribological Characteristics of L-PBF Processed Commercially Pure Titanium through Ultrasonic Impact Treatment

Multi-pass ultrasonic impact treatment(UIT)was applied to modify the microstructure and improve the mechanical and tribological characteristics at the near-surface region of commercially pure Ti(CP-Ti)specimens produced by the laser powder bed fusion(L-PBF)*** considerably refined the L-PBF process-related acicular martensites(α′-M)and produced a well-homogenized and dense surface microstructure,where the porosity content of 1-,3-,and 5-pass UITed samples was reduced by 43,60,and 67%,*** UITed samples showed an enhancement in their near-surface mechanical properties up to a depth of about 300μ*** nanoindentation results for the 3-pass UITed sample revealed an increase of about 53,45,and 220%in its nanohardness,H/E_(r),and H_(3)/E_(r)^(2)indices,*** stylus profilometry results showed that performing the UIT removed the L-PBF-related features/defects and offered a smooth *** roughness average(R_(a))and the skewness(R_(sk))of the 3-pass UITed sample were found to be lower than those of the L-PBFed sample by 95 and 223%,*** the UIT also enhanced the material ratio,where the maximum load-bearing capacity(~100%)in as-L-PBFed(as-built)and 3-pass UITed samples was obtained at 60-and 10-µm depths,*** tribological investigations showed that applying the UIT resulted in a significant reduction of wear rate and average coefficient of friction(COF)of *** instance,under the normal pressures of 0.05 and 0.2 MPa,the wear rate and COF of the 3-pass UITed sample were lower than those of the L-PBFed sample by 65 and 58%,and 20 and 17%,respectively.
