Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and influence of age and gender on histopathologic findings

AIM:To characterize the histopathologic specifications of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)according to age and ***:An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in two private gastroenterology clinics on biopsy proven patients suffering from *** histopathologic findings as well as demographic and laboratory data of the patients at the time of biopsy were gathered retrospectively from clinical *** grading and staging of histopathologic findings were performed according to the Brunt method after reevaluation of the slides by a *** were divided into two groups according to age(belowand above 55 years).Mean quantitative grade of all pathologic findings were also calculated according to Brunt scoring ***:A total number of 77 NASH patients,consisting of 58 males(75.3%)and 19(24.7%)females with a mean age of 41.99±11.80 years(range,18-70 years),were *** mean age(48.72±13.99 years vs 39.74±10.16 years,P=0.004)and aspartate aminotransferase level(75.11±29.68 U/L vs 52.78± 25.00 U/L,P=0.002)was significantly higher in female *** quantitative grade of hepatosteatosis was significantly higher in females(2.00±0.82 vs 1.59 ±0.68,P=0.031)compared to *** four percent(34/65)of young patients had mild hepatosteatosis (GradeⅠ)while only one patient(11.2%)in the older group had gradeⅠ*** aged≥55 had significantly more severe hepatosteatosis(GradeⅢ) (44.4%vs 9.5%,P=0.007)and the mean quantitative grade of hepatosteatosis was significantly higher among them(2.33±0.71 vs 1.56±0.67,P=0.002).Multivariate analysis after omitting the confounding role of age revealed a higher grade of hepatosteatosis in female patients(P=0.010).CONCLUSION:These findings point toward the possible influence of age in the severity of steatohepatitis,portal and lobar inflammation in patients suffering from NASH while gender independently might contribute to the level of steatohepatitis.

A fuzzy logic model to predict the out-of-seam dilution in longwall mining

The longwall mining method is often affected by the out-of-seam dilution （OSD）. Therefore, predicting and controlling of dilution are important factors for reducing mining costs. In this study, the fuzzy set theory and multiple regression models with parameters, including variation in seam thickness, dip of seam, seam thickness, depth of seam, and hydraulic radius as inputs to the models were applied to pre- dict the OSD in the longwall coal panels. Field data obtained from Kerman and Tabas coal mines, lran were used to develop and validate the models. Three indices including coefficient of determination （R2）, root mean square error （RMSE） and variance account for （VAF） were used to evaluate the perfor- mance of the models. With 10 randomly selected datasets, for the linear, polynomial, power, exponential, and fuzzy logic models, R2, RSME and VAF are equal to （0.85, 4.4, 84.4）, （0.61, 7.5, 59.6）, （0.84, 4.5, 72.7）, （0.80, 4.1, 79.6）, and （0.97, 2.1, 95.7）, respectively. The obtained results indicate that the fuzzy logic model predictor with R2 = 0.97, RMSE = 2.1, and VAF = 95.7 performs better than the other models.

Developing a Nano-Biosensor for DNA Hybridization Using a New Electroactive Label

Development of electrochemical DNA hybridization biosensors based on carbon paste electrode （CPE） and gold nanoparticle modified carbon paste electrode （NGMCPE） as transducers and ethyl green （EG） as a new electroac- tive label is described. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry techniques were applied for the investigation and comparison of bare CPE and NGMCPE surfaces. Our voltammetric and spectroscopic studies showed gold nanoparticles are enable to facilitate electron transfer between the accumulated label on DNA probe modified electrode and electrode surface and enhance the electrical signals and lead to an improved detection limit. The immobilization of a 15-mer single strand oligonucleotide probe on the working electrodes and hybridiza- tion event between the probe and its complementary sequence as a target were investigated by differential pulse voltammetry （DPV） responses of the EG accumulated on the electrodes. The effects of some experimental variables on the performance of the biosensors were investigated and optimum conditions were suggested. The selectivity of the biosensors was studied using some non-complementary oligonucleotides. Finally the detection limits were calculated as 1.35×10^-10 mol/L and 5.16×10^-11 mol/L on the CPE and NEGCPE, respectively. In addition, the bio-sensors exhibited a good selectivity, reproducibility and stability for the determination of DNA sequences.

Information and communications technology has exponentially grown in recent years and has played a significant role in organizational *** main purpose of this study was to collect the data needed for the introduction of a new tool for assessing e-readiness in the Agricultural Organization of Guilan Province,*** study population includes agricultural organization experts and researchers who were familiar with the concepts of IT and the organization *** on the relevant literature review,the e-readiness indicators which had theoretically been proposed and practically used by researchers over the past 10 years were *** some parameters were introduced for examination and *** indicators represented the spatial and temporal factors as well as the characteristics of the condition of the Agricultural Organization of Guilan *** proposed structural model included seven factors(Infrastructural,Human,Educational,Government,Management,Socio-cultural and Legal)and 44 *** that,based on the experts’points of view,the coefficient of significance for each of the selected factors and indicators was measured using Minkowski fuzzy screening *** results obtained from structured questionnaires show that all of the seven main factors and 40 indicators out of 44 indicators were appropriate for assessing electronic readiness and the final model of assessing ***,the results indicated that the most important factor in assessing e-readiness is the human factor and then stand other factors such as educational,infrastructural,management,government,legal and socio-cultural.

Sperm selection is an essential component of all assisted reproductive treatments(ARTs)and is by far the most neglected step in the ART workflow in regard to technological *** sperm selection methodologies typically produce a higher total number of sperm with variable motilities,morphologies,and levels of DNA ***-standard techniques,including density gradient centrifugation(DGC)and swim-up(SU),have been shown to induce DNA fragmentation through introducing reactive oxygen species(ROS)during ***,we demonstrate a 3D printed,biologically inspired microfluidic sperm selection device(MSSP)that utilizes multiple methods to simulate a sperms journey toward *** are first selected based on their motility and boundary-following behavior and then on their expression of apoptotic markers,yielding over 68%more motile sperm than that of previously reported methods with a lower incidence of DNA fragmentation and *** from the MsSP also demonstrated higher motile sperm recovery after cryopreservation than that of sU or neat *** were conducted side-by-side against conventional SU methods using human semen(n=33)and showed over an 85%improvement in DNA integrity with an average 90%reduction in sperm *** results that the platform is easy-to-use for sperm selection and mimics the biological function of the female reproductive tract during conception.

Porosity parameters in biomaterial science: Definition, impact, and challenges in tissue engineering

Porosity parameters are one of the structural properties of the extracellular microenvironment that have been shown to have a great impact on the cellular phenotype and various biological activities such as diffusion of fluid,initial protein adsorption,permeability,cell penetration and migration,ECM deposition,angiogenesis,and rate and pattern of new tissue *** heterogeneity of the study protocols and research methodologies do not allow reliable meta-analysis for definite *** such,despite the huge available literature,no generally accepted consensus is defined for the porosity requirements of specific tissue engineering ***,based on the biomimetic approach,the biological substitutes should replicate the 3D local microenvironment of the recipient site with matching porosity parameters to best support local cells during tissue ***,the porosity of biomaterials should mimic the porosity of the substituting natural tissue and match the clinical *** analysis of the impact of architectures(i.e.,porosity)on biophysical,biochemical,and biological behaviors will support designing smart biomaterials with customized architectural and functional properties that are patient and defect site-specific.

Immunologic tumor microenvironment modulators for turning cold tumors hot

Tumors can be classified into distinct immunophenotypes based on the presence and arrangement of cytotoxic immune cells within the tumor microenvironment(TME).Hot tumors,characterized by heightened immune activity and responsiveness to immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs),stand in stark contrast to cold tumors,which lack immune infiltration and remain resistant to *** overcome immune evasion mechanisms employed by tumor cells,novel immunologic modulators have emerged,particularly ICIs targeting cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4(CTLA-4)and programmed cell death protein 1/programmed death-ligand 1(PD-1/PD-L1).These agents disrupt inhibitory signals and reactivate the immune system,transforming cold tumors into hot ones and promoting effective antitumor ***,challenges persist,including primary resistance to immunotherapy,autoimmune side effects,and tumor response *** these challenges requires innovative strategies,deeper mechanistic insights,and a combination of immune interventions to enhance the effectiveness of *** the landscape of cancer medicine,where immune cold tumors represent a formidable hurdle,understanding the TME and harnessing its potential to reprogram the immune response is *** review sheds light on current advancements and future directions in the quest for more effective and safer cancer treatment strategies,offering hope for patients with immune-resistant tumors.

The vibration problem of a fluid conveying cylindrical shell consisted of newly developed multi-scale hybrid nanocomposites is solved in the present manuscript within the framework of an analytical *** consistent material is considered to be made from an initial matrix strengthened via both macro-and nano-scale *** influence of nanofillers’agglomeration,generated due to the high surface to volume ratio in nanostructures,is included by implementing Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka homogenization ***,the equivalent material properties of the carbon nanotube reinforced(CNTR)nanocomposite are coupled with those of CFs within the framework of a modified rule of *** the other hand,the influences of viscous flow are covered by extending the Navier-Stokes equation for cylinders.A cylindrical coordinate system is chosen and mixed with the infinitesimal strains of first-order shear deformation theory of shells to obtain the motion equations on the basis of the dynamic form of principle of virtual ***,the achieved governing equations will be solved by Galerkin’s method to reach the natural frequency of the structure for both simply supported and clamped boundary *** a set of illustrations,effects of each parameter on the dimensionless frequency of nanocomposite shells will be shown graphically.

Experimental investigation and numerical simulation of plastic flow behavior during forward-backward-radial extrusion process

Finite element method was employed to investigate the effect of process parameters of plastic deformation behavior in Forward-Backward-Radial Extrusion(FBRE) process. The result of an axisymmetric model shows that the friction between die components and the sample has a substantial effect on the material flow *** strain heterogeneity index(SHI) slightly decreases with an increase in friction, large portion of the sample experiences significant strain heterogeneity. Increasing the friction factor also localizes the strain heterogeneity effect in the backward section, and spread the effect in the forward section. Decreasing the friction in the FBRE process can reduce the amount of the strain heterogeneity in the product while decreases the required punch force substantially. Furthermore, an increase in gap thickness increases the deformation in the area close to the lower punch at the expense of the area in the vicinity of the upper punch. The numerical simulation has a good agreement with the experimental results which confirms the accuracy of the proposed finite element model.

Wave propagation analysis of rotating thermoelastically-actuated nanobeams based on nonlocal strain gradient theory

This paper is concerned with the wave propagation behavior of rotating functionally graded（FG）temperature-dependent nanoscale beams subjected to thermal loading based on nonlocal strain gradient stress ***,linear and nonlinear temperature distributions across the thickness are ***-elastic properties of FG beam change gradually according to the Mori–Tanaka distribution model in the spatial *** nanobeam is modeled via a higher-order shear deformable refined beam theory which has a trigonometric shear stress *** governing equations are derived by Hamilton’s principle as a function of axial force due to centrifugal stiffening and *** solution of these equations is provided employing a Galerkin-based approach which has the potential to capture various boundary *** applying an analytical solution and solving an eigenvalue problem,the dispersion relations of rotating FG nanobeam are *** results illustrate that various parameters including temperature change,angular velocity,nonlocality parameter,wave number and gradient index have significant effects on the wave dispersion characteristics of the nanobeam under *** outcome of this study can provide beneficial information for the next-generation research and the exact design of nano-machines including nanoscale molecular bearings,nanogears,etc.
