AIm. To observe the im.alance between T helper cell Th1 and Th2 cytokines in several chronic hepatitis disease at different stages of disease progression. m.THODS： We m.asured the cytokine levels of Thl （IL-2 and IL-2R）, Th2 （IL-10） and the pro-inflam.atory cytokines （IL-6 and IL-6R and TNF and TNF-RI and II） by the ELISA technique in the sera of 33 hepatocellular carcinom. （HCC） patients and 20 chronic liver disease （CLD） patients. In addition, 20 asym.tom.tic hepatitis C virus carriers and 20 healthy subjects negative for hepatitis C virus（HCV） m.rkers served as controls. RESULTS： Anti-HCV antibodies were found to be positive in 94% of HCC cases and 75% of CLD cases. On the other hand, HCV virem.a was detected using RT- PCR in 67% of HCC cases and 65% of CLD cases. HBsAg was positive in 9% of HCC cases and 30% of CLD cases. Also bilharziaI-Ab was positive in 55% of HCC cases, 65% of CLD cases and in 70% of asym.tom.tic carriers （ASC）. HCC patients had significantly higher values of IL- 2R, TNF-RII （P〈0.001）, and TNF-RI （P〉0.05）, but lower TNFα （P〈0.001） and IL-6 （P = 0.032） in com.arison to ASC. But, in com.arison to non-cancer controls, HCC patients had higher values of IL-2R, IL-6R, TNF-RI and TNF-RII, but lower TNF-α （P〈0.001）. CLD patients had higher IL-2R, TNF-RI, and TNF-RII （P〈0.001） than ASC. But, in com.arison to non-cancer controls, CLD patients had higher values of IL-2R, TNF-RI and TNF-RII, but lower TNF-α （P〈0.001）. IL-10 was higher （though not significantly） in HCC and CLD patients than in sym.tom.tic carriers and non-cancer controls. CONCLUSION： Liver disease progression from.CLD to HCC due to HCV genotype-4 infection is associated with an im.alance between Th1 and Th2 cytokines. IL-2R, TNF-RI, and TNF-RII could be used as potential m.rkers.

AIm.To assess the utility of an autologous CD34 + and CD133 + stem.cells infusion as a possible therapeutic m.dality in patients with end-stage liver ***:One hundred and forty patients with endstage liver diseases were random.zed into two *** 1,com.rising 90 patients,received granulocyte colony stim.lating factor for five days followed by autologous CD34 + and CD133 + stem.cell infusion in the portal *** 2,com.rising 50 patients,received regular liver treatm.nt only and served as a control ***:Near norm.lization of liver enzym.s and im.rovem.nt in synthetic function were observed in 54.5% of the group 1 patients;13.6% of the patients showed stable states in the infused *** of the patients in the control group showed *** adverse effects were ***:Our data showed that a CD34 + and CD133 + stem.cells infusion can be used as supportive treatm.nt for end-stage liver disease with satisfactory tolerability.

A calculation of the energy loss due to a transition from.non-equilibrium.to equilibrium.state is given. Three different physical system. are considered in this study: connecting an uncharged capacitor to a charged capacitor, em.ssion of a photon from.an excited atom. and releasing an object from.a com.ressed spring. AIm. To investigate the effects of m.tations in dom.in Ⅲ of the hepatitis C virus （HCV） internal ribosom. entry sequences （IRES） on the response of chronic HCV genotype 4a patients to interferon therapy.m.THODS： HCV RNA was extracted from.19 chronic HCV 4a patients receiving interferon/ribavirin therapy who showed dram.tic differences in their response to com.ination therapy after initial viral clearance. IRES dom.in Ⅲ was cloned and 15 clones for each patient were sequenced. The obtained sequences were aligned with genotype 4a prototype using the ClustaIW program.and m.tations scored. Prediction of stem.loop secondary structure and therm.dynam.c stability of the m.jor quasispecies in each patient was perform.d using the m.OLD 3.2 program.with Turner energies and selected constraints on base pairing.RESULTS： Analysis of RNA secondary structure revealed that insertions in dom.in Ⅲ altered WatsonCrick base pairing of stem. and reduced m.lecular stability of RNA, which m.y ultim.tely reduce binding affinity to ribosom.l proteins. Insertion m.tations in dom.in - were statistically m.re prevalent in sustained viral response patients （SVR, n = 14） as com.ared to breakthrough （BT, n = 5） patients.CONCLUSION： The influence of m.tations within dom.in Ⅲ on the response of HCV patients to com.ination therapy depends prim.rily on the position, but not the frequency, of these m.tations within IRES dom.in Ⅲ.

In this paper, we have used the hom.topy perturbation and the Adom.an decom.osition m.thods to study the nonlinear coupled Kortewge-de Vries and shallow water equations. The m.in objective of this paper is to propose alternative m.thods of solutions, which do not require sm.ll param.ters and avoid linearization and physical unrealistic assum.tions. The proposed m.thods give m.re general exact solutions without m.ch extra effort and the results reveal that the hom.topy perturbation and the Adom.an decom.osition m.thods are very effective, convenient and quite accurate to the system. of coupled nonlinear equations.

Objective: This study aim.d to assess the relationship of cognition, depression and anxiety to glycem.c control in elders with diabetes. Dm.is a chronic m.dical condition. Its control depends on adherence to m.dical therapy and m.king decisions related to lifestyle changes. This decision m.king capacity is affected by m.ny factors including cognition and psychological status. Design: It was a case control study. Setting: It was done in Ain Sham. University Hospital inpatients and Dm.outpatient clinic, Cairo, Egypt. Participants: Of the one hundred diabetic patients aged ≥ 60 years, 50 had Hem.globin A1c (HbA1c) ≥ 7.5 (cases) and 50 had Hb A1c 7.5 (controls). m.asurem.nts: Cognition was assessed using m.nim.ntal status exam.nation (m.SE) test, m.ttis Organic m.ntal Syndrom. Screening Exam.nation (m.m.SE) and Cam.ridge Cognitive Exam.nation (CAm.OG) test. Geriatric depression scale-15 (GDS-15) was perform.d for depression assessm.nt, while anxiety was assessed by DSm.IV criteria. Laboratory investigations included: fasting blood sugar (FBS), post-prandial blood sugar (PPBS), glycated haem.globin (Hb A1c), low density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), total cholesterol, and triglycerides (TG). Results: Significant difference was found between the two groups regarding scores of cognitive tests: m.SE score (p = 0.004);below average (p = 0.02) and average scores (p = 0.05) of m.m.SE;CAm.OG score (p = 0.015);and CAm.OG divided item. score including orientation (p = 0.003), com.rehension (p = 0.005), expression (p = 0.020), attention (p = 0.002), and abstraction (p = 0.008) as well as depression screening scores (P = 0.002). Using Receiver Operating Characteristic, CAm.OG had better sensitivity and m.m.SE had better specificity. Conclusion: Cognitive im.airm.nt was associated with poor glycem.c control, and im.airm.nt in attention and abstraction, related to executive function, functions were found to be associated with poor glycem.c control. The present study was carried out on Ficuscarica L. cultivated in the northwestern desert of Egypt. Plant m.terials （leaves and fruits） were collected from.three polluted locations at a distance of 500-700, 1,000-1,250 and 3,000-3,500 m.respectively away from.the cem.nt factory at EI-Ham.am.city, and a location of relatively clean air considered a control at 5,000-6,000 m.away from.this factory. The deposit cem.nt dust washed from.the surface leaf area of plant study was found to be 4.96, 4.21, 0.51 and 0.29 lag/cm. at the four locations, respectively. Cem.nt in m.re polluted locations increased m.rtality of young branches leading to a reduction in the height and yield of fig trees. The deposition of cem.nt pollutants tothe loam. sandy soil of the present study alteredsoil chem.cal characteristics. The results showed that, biom.ss of fruits/tree, num.er of branches/tree and num.er of fruits/branch in polluted locations were significantly lower than those of the control one. Cem.nt dust decreased leaf total chlorophyll content leading to a reduction in the econom.c yield （up to 50%）. m.tabolic constituents （carbohydrates, proteins, am.no acid and proline） and essential elem.nts （Fe, m., Na, Ca, and K） were studied in two types of fruits on fig trees （m.ture and prem.ture）. Thallium.as a toxic m.tal was predicted in edible m.ture fruits, and the results showed that the concentration of thallium.parts per billion （ppb） in polluted locations was significantly higher than those of the control one. The results revealed that fruits of fig plants at polluted sites showed quantitative and qualitative deteriorations.

Zn plays an im.ortant role in the protection of iron and steel from.corrosion in sea water, and the alloying of Zn and Ni can im.rove its corrosion resistance. The corrosion behavior of Zn？Ni alloys in synthetic sea water （3.5% NaCl, m.ss fraction） was studied using Tafel plot and electrochem.cal im.edance spectroscopy （EIS） techniques. The corrosion resistance of the investigated alloys with various Ni contents （0.5%？10%, m.ss fraction） was com.ared with that of Zn. The results show that the corrosion resistance of Zn？Ni alloys （except 0.5% Ni） is superior to that of Zn. The 10% Ni gives the highest corrosion resistance due to the form.tion ofγ-Zn3Ni withγ-ZnNi phases in the alloy. In the case of alloy I （0.5% Ni）, it exhibits a higher corrosion rate （less corrosion resistance） than Zn.

In this paper, we present the steady state analysis of a double-fed induction generator (DFIG) adopted for wind power generation. The three-phase induction m.chine connected to the network, to work as a generator for wind farm., is excited on the rotor circuit by a slip-frequency current injected to the rotor, from.an exciter m.unted on the sam. shaft of the m.chine. The resulting rotating m.gnetic field rotates at synchronous speed;as such the generated power has a constant frequency independent of the shaft speed. Effects of the excitation voltage m.gnitude and phase angle on the active and reactive power are studied, when the m.chine runs at constant speed. It has been shown that by controlling the excitation voltage m.gnitude and phase angle would control the m.de of operation of the m.chine;m.tor m.de or generator m.de. Furtherm.re, the effects of the shaft speed on the active and reactive power at constant excitation voltage m.gnitude and constant phase angle are also investigated.
