Fluidization and bubbling behavior of potash particles in a deep fluidized bed

Most existing models for predicting bubble size and bubble frequency have been developed for freely bubbling fluidized *** prediction of bubbling behavior in deep fluidized beds,however,has been a challenge due to the higher degree of bubble coalescence and break up,high probability of the slugging regime,partial fluidization,and chaotic behavior in the bubbling *** this work,the bubbling and fluidization behavior of potash particles was investigated in a deep fluidized bed employing a twin-plane electrical capacitance tomography(ECT)*** volume fraction,average bubble velocity,average bubble diameter,and bubble frequency in both bubbling and slugging regimes were measured at two different bed height ratios(H/D=3.5 and H/D=3.78).This work is the first to illustrate a sequential view of bubbles at different superficial gas velocities in a fluidized *** results show that both the bubble diameter and rising velocity increased with increasing the superficial gas velocity for the two bed heights,with larger values observed in the deeper bed compared to the shallower *** values for bubble diameter,bubble rise velocity and bubble frequency from different models are compared with the experimental data obtained from the ECT system in this *** agreement has been achieved between the values predicted by the previous models and the experimental data for the bubble diameter and bubble rise velocity with an average absolute deviation of 16%and 15%for the bed height of 49 cm and 13%and 8%for the bed height of 53 cm,respectively.

Energy model based on solar potential and the production of electrical energy through living plants' photosynthesis

Developing a sustainable energy model is imperative considering the current trend towards decarbonizing sectors worldwide. For this purpose, Venezuela was used as a reference to propose an energy model focused on taking advantage of plant photosynthesis through microbial-vegetable fuel cells together with an agro-photovoltaic system to enhance energy and agricultural production. Energy production from the cells was estimated using an average power density of 264 mW/m(2) over 4% of the areas destined for crops in the entire Venezuelan region, obtaining an annual production of 19.889 GWh/year. In contrast, the energy production of the agro-photovoltaic system was modelled using PVsyst software on 50% of the area used for the cells distributed throughout the states of Anzo & aacute;tegui, Gu & aacute;rico, Monagas and Portuguesa according to their meteorological conditions, solar irradiation and agricultural activity, resulting in 3 703 417 GWh/year. The resulting whole system proved to be able to cover >10 times the installed electricity generation capacity at a national level and, together with the tremendous scalability of the microbial fuel cells, it shows that Venezuela has a high potential for the production and distribution of clean energy. Effect of particle stress tensor in simulations of dense gas-particle flows in fluidized beds

A two-fluid model based on the kinetic theory of granular flow for the rapid-flow regime and the Coulomb friction law for the quasi-static regime is applied to predict the hydrodynamics of dense gas-particle flow in a three-dimensional fluidized bed. Two different models for the particle stress tensor that use different constitutive equations in the elastic-inertial regime are examined to assess their ability to predict bed dynamics. To understand how particle stress models affect structural features of the flow, a quantitative analysis is performed on some important aspects of the mechanics of bubbling beds that have received relatively little attention in the literature. Accordingly, different flow regimes are identified in the context of fluidized beds through the dimensionless inertial number, and the main characteristics of each regime are discussed. In addition, how the particle stress tensor manifests itself in the bubble characteristics, natural frequency of the bed, and particle Reynolds stress are investigated, all of which help to better understand the complex dynamics of the fluidized bed. The numerical results are validated against pub- lished experimental data and demonstrate the significant role of the stress tensor in the elastic-inertial regime.

TMAS: A transaction misbehavior analysis scheme for blockchain

Blockchain-based cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoins, are increasingly popular. However, the decentralized and anonymous nature of these currencies can also be (ab)used for nefarious activities such as money laundering, thus reinforcing the importance of designing tools to effectively detect malicious transaction misbehaviors. In this paper, we propose TMAS, a transaction misbehavior analysis scheme for blockchain-based cryptocurrencies. Specifically, the proposed system includes ten features in the transaction graph, two heuristic money laundering models, and an analysis method for account linkage, which identifies accounts that are distinct but controlled by an identical entity. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed indicators and models, we analyze 100 million transactions and compute transaction features, and are able to identify a number of suspicious accounts. Moreover, the proposed methods can be applied to other cryptocurrencies, such as token-based cryptocurrencies (e.g., Bitcoins) and account-based cryptocurrencies (e.g., Ethereum).

Growth, Population Parameters and Stock Status of Sarotherodon galilaeus in Samandeni Reservoir, Burkina Faso

Mango tilapia, Sarotherodon galilaeus is one of the most caught fish species in the Samandeni multi-species fishing sites of which, few data on its biology and exploitation are available. The study aimed to Assess the stock status of S. galilaeus. Sampling was conducted from March, 2021 to February 2022 based on commercial fish catches to analyze growth parameters, first sexual maturity size and harvest status of the stock. A total of 572 specimens including 297 females and 275 males were examined. The stock assessment was performed by using the Length based Bayesian method of Biomass (LBB) and that of growth by the ELEFAN method. The growth parameters showed a seasonality of growth and females appeared to grow faster than males. On the other hand, males had a greater asymptotic length than females. Results on the estimated length of fish at first maturity showed that females firstly reached the maturity compared to males. The relative biomass (B/B0) estimated for the stock was higher than the relative biomass that produces maximum sustainable yield (BMSY/B0) indicating healthy biomass. In addition, the length at first sexual maturity was less than the length at the first catch, indicating the absence of overfishing of growth. In addition, extending the study to the various stocks of the reservoir would be important for the sustainable management of the Samandeni high economic fishing area.
