A review of the use of pteridophytes for treating human ailments

The aim of this review was to explore the pharmacological activity of early tracheophytes （pteridophytes） as an alternative medicine for treating human ailments. As the first vascular plants, pteridophytes （aka, ferns and fern allies） are an ancient lineage, and human beings have been exploring and using taxa from this lineage for over 2000 years because of their beneficial properties. We have documented the medicinal uses of pteddophytes belonging to thirty different families. The lycophyte Selaginella sp. was shown in earlier studies to have multiple pharmacological activity, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antidiabetic, antiviral, antimicrobial, and anti-Alzheimer properties. Among all the pteridophytes examined, taxa from the Pteridaceae, Polypodiaceae, and Adiantaceae ex- hibited significant medicinal activity. Based on our review, many pteridophytes have properties that could be used in alternative medicine for treatment of various human illnesses. Biotechnological tools can be used to preserve and even improve their bioactive molecules for the preparation of medicines against illness. Even though several studies have reported medicinal uses of ferns, the possible bioacUve compounds of several pteridophytes have not been identified. Furthermore, their optimal dosage level and treatment strategies still need to be determined. Finally, the future direc- tion of pteridophyte research is discussed.

Development of SIMS (Simple Indigenous Metallic Stabilizer) for OPCAB

Development of a simple, reusable stabilizer for beating heart surgery has been long overdue. Every time a disposable stabilizer is used and discarded, we add to the carbon footprint we leave behind. We had been working on developing such a stabilizer, and had finally come up with a simple indigenous (reusable) metallic stabilizer (SIMS). We have used it for over 600 consecutive off pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) with excellent results. The anatomy of the stabilizer is described here along with a comparison of this stabilizer with the commercially available one.

The forming behavior of a particulate reinforced AA 7075-TiC composite produced by in-situ stir casting process was investigated with cold upsetting test using graphite as lubricant. The prepared composites containing 0%, 4% and 8% of TiC reinforcement was completely investigated under tri-axial stress state condition. The various stress parameters were evaluated for all the above said composites and its variation with respect to axial strain was plotted, studied and discussed. Microstructural characterization of the composites was also done to study the distribution of the reinforcement in the metal matrix composite.

Essential oils(EOs)are more complex and comprise a number of volatile and natural bioactive compounds,which often used in food industries as the best *** review focuses on the impact of EOs and the roles of their major components in food manufacturing as natural preservatives with the related mechanisms of *** addition,the major bioactive molecules of different types of EOs and their pharmacological activities such as antioxidant,antifungal and antimicrobial effects on crop protection were also *** major compounds of EOs represent potential antioxidant,antimicrobial and antifungal activities through various *** types of EOs such as tea tree oil,lemon oil,clove oil,cinnamon oil and thyme oil from various traditional plants,have significantly showed better antimicrobial and antioxidant activities,and also effectively increased the shelf lives of the cereal products and increased the quality of food *** major groups of EOs such as terpenes and aromatic volatile compounds,play a key role in food safety without affecting the *** to their various activities including antioxidant and antimicrobial activities,EOs could be used as alternative preservatives to increase the shelf lives of cereals and crops.

An Effective and Customized Itinerary Planning System Using Association Rule Mining Technique with Personalized Points of Interest

Mining the data from the huge collection that are present in the database and uncovering the relationships between the item set are one of the key aspects of data mining technologies. Itinerary planning system with personalization in selecting the places to the users is one of the demanding features in most of the travel plan. In this work, the system is designed in such a way to provide the customized journey plan to the users and also the effective one to the back pack travelers. Here the Points of Interests are the places to visit in each destination for the number of days chosen by the travelers. In this system, the users are allowed to specify the desired POIs to visit for the selected destination and can make their customized travel plan effectively. This proposed system is designed to choose the customized places to visit and to plan travel for K-day itineraries. The most visited itineraries are saved and updated in the database. Association rules are used to find out the frequent places visited in each destination and to provide the reputed places to the users to plan the journey. Here the Weka tool is used to evaluate the performance of the algorithm and the rules that are generated for the given travel dataset. Data set is designed by considering several attributes that can take part during travel such as source, destination, travel cost, budget, etc. Statistical analysis is done to evaluate the performance of the proposed system and the list of features that are present in the system. During the analysis part, registered users, number of logins, frequent visits, and attributes are analyzed. Thus the system can be redefined further with the help of this statistical analysis. It is mostly used at the organization end to evaluate their performance and improve the features. Interpretation of Dune Genesis from Sedimentogical Data and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Signatures: A Case Study from Ashirmata Dune Field, Mandvi Beach, Gujarat, India

The coastal dunes located near the Ashirmata region, south of Mandvi beach lies near the straight coast have been stud-ied by making use of sedimentological information and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data. Sedimentological analy-sis reveals the NNW-SSE trending longitudinal dunes consists of well sorted fine sands with unimodal distribution pos-sibly formed by constant wind gust and also the point out to the origin of sediments from single source;mostly the sediments derived from Indus delta transported to beach by long shore drift and tidal waves, carried inland by local on-shore winds. The radargram confirms, the homogenous sand layers with paleosols at shallow depth slip faces are proba-bly formed due to extreme storm activity of Recent.
