Background:Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)is recognized as the most lethal and most highly invasive tumor.The high likelihood of treatment failure arises fromthe presence of the blood-brain barrier(BBB)and stemcells around GBM,which avert the entry of chemotherapeutic drugs into the tumormass.Objective:Recently,several researchers have designed novel nanocarrier systems like liposomes,dendrimers,metallic nanoparticles,nanodiamonds,and nanorobot approaches,allowing drugs to infiltrate the BBB more efficiently,opening up innovative avenues to prevail over therapy problems and radiation therapy.Methods:Relevant literature for this manuscript has been collected from a comprehensive and systematic search of databases,for example,PubMed,Science Direct,Google Scholar,and others,using specific keyword combinations,including“glioblastoma,”“brain tumor,”“nanocarriers,”and several others.Conclusion:This review also provides deep insights into recent advancements in nanocarrier-based formulations and technologies for GBM management.Elucidation of various scientific advances in conjunction with encouraging findings concerning the future perspectives and challenges of nanocarriers for effective brain tumor management has also been discussed.

In this paper,we study the hyperstability for the general linear equation f(ax+by)=Af(x)+Bf(y)in the setting of complete quasi-2-Banach spaces.We first extend the main fixed point result of Brzdek and Ciepliński(Acta Mathematica Scientia,2018,38 B(2):377-390)to quasi-2-Banach spaces by defining an equivalent quasi-2-Banach space.Then we use this result to generalize the main results on the hyperstability for the general linear equation in quasi-2-Banach spaces.Our results improve and generalize many results of literature.

Emerging contaminants(ECs)represent a small fraction of the large chemical pollution puzzle where a wide variety of potentially hazardous chemicals reach the environment,and new compounds are continuously synthesized and released in wastewater treatment plants and ultimately in effluent and biosolids.ECs have been classified into various categories;however,this article focuses on the fate of major categories,namely pharmaceutical and personal care products(PPCPs),per-and poly-fluoroalkyl substances(PFAS),flame retardants,surfactants,endocrine-disrupting chemicals(EDCs),and microplastics(MPs).These ECs when discharged to sewer and downstream wastewater treatment plants can undergo further transformations and either degrade,persist or convert into by-products which have the potential in some cases to be more hazardous.Because of potential dangerous impacts of the availability of these contaminants in the environment,information on the fate and behavior of these pollutants is highly important to develop new strategies,such as the regulation of chemicals imported into Australia and Australian consumer goods and environmental policies to mitigate them in a sustainable way.Moreover,advanced technologies are required for the detection and identification of novel contaminants emerging in the environment at ultra low levels.The application of chromatographic techniques coupled with mass spectroscopy has provided attractive breakthroughs to detect new emerging contaminants.However,it is crucially important to understand the sensitivity and robustness of these analytical techniques when dealing with complex matrices such as biosolids.In addition,most of the literature was focused on selected compounds or a family of compounds and the existing reviews have paid less attention to examine the formation of metabolites during the wastewater treatment process and their impacts on the ecosystem.This review presents an overview of the presence of different classes of ECs around the world,their quantification from different sources

We have recently developed a narrow band imager（NBI） using an air gap based Fabry-P′erot（FP） interferometer at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore. Narrow band imaging is achieved by using an FP interferometer working in combination with an order sorting pre-filter. The NBI can be tuned to a different wavelength position on the line profile by changing the plate separation of the FP. The interferometer has a 50 mm clear aperture with a bandpass of ～247.8 m ？A and a free spectral range of～5.3 ？A at λ = 656.3 nm. The developed NBI is used to observe the solar filament in the Hα wavelength.The instrument is being used to image the Sun at chromospheric height and it is also able to scan the Hα spectral line profile at different wavelength positions. We have also made Doppler velocity maps at chromospheric height by taking the blue and red wing images at ±176 m ？A wavelength positions separately away from the line center of the spectral line. In this paper, we present a description of the NBI including lab test results of individual components and some initial observations carried out with this instrument.

Body mass index and COVID-19 outcomes:A retrospective cross-sectional study at a tertiary care center in India

Objective:To determine the association between body weight and COVID-19 outcomes.Methods:This is a retrospective cohort study of COVID-19 patients admitted in a dedicated COVID-19 hospital,a tertiary health care center,between May and June 2021.Demographic data and baseline variables,including age,sex,body mass index(BMI),and comorbidities were collected.Outcomes(death or mechanical ventilation)of the patients with different BMI,age,comorbidities,and qSOFA scores were compared.Besides,the risk factors for death or mechanical ventilation were determined.Results:The mean age of the subjects was(51.8±14.7)years old,and 233(74.2%)were male.There were 103(32.8%)patients with normal weight,143(45.5%)patients were overweight,and 68(21.7%)patients were obese.In-hospital deaths and need of mechanical ventilations were significantly higher in the obese and the overweight group compared to the normal weight group,in age group≥65 years compared to<65 years,in patients with≥1 comorbidities compared to patients without comorbidities,in patients with qSOFA scores≥2 compared to patients with qSOFA scores<2.There was a significantly increased risk of death(RR:4.1,95%CI 1.0-17.4,P=0.04)and significantly increased need of mechanical ventilation(RR:5.2,95%CI 1.8-15.2,P=0.002)in the obese patients compared with those with normal weight after controlling other covariates.Conclusion:Obesity is one of the significant risk factors for adverse outcomes in COVID-19 patients and should be considered during management.

In this problem,simultaneous effects of Joule and viscous dissipation in three-dimensional flow of nanoliquid have been addressed in slip flow regime under time dependent rotational oscillations.Silver nanoparticles are submerged in the base fluid(water)due to their chemical and biological features.To increment the novelty,effects of cubic autocatalysis chemical reactions and radiative heat transfer have been incorporated in the related boundary layer equations.Dimensionless partial differential system is solved by employing the proposed implicit finite difference approach.Convergence conditions and stability criteria are obtained to ensure the convergence and accuracy of solutions.A comparative analysis is proposed for no-slip nanofluid flow(NSNF)and slip nanofluid flow(SNF).Variations in skin-friction coefficients,Sherwood and Nusselt numbers against physical parameters are tabulated.It is investigated that velocity slip and temperature jump significantly control drag forces and rate of heat transfer.

Aerobic bacterial flora of the normal conjunctiva at high altitude area of Shimla Hills in India:a hospital based study

AIM:To study the normal aerobic conjunctival flora in lower to mid Himalayan region of Shimla Hills.METHODS:Samples from normal conjunctiva of 200 individuals above the age of 13 years who visited Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital Shimla for refraction or cataract surgery were taken by anaesthetising the conjunctival sac with sterile 4% Xylocaine solution.Samples were obtained by gently rubbing lower fornix with a sterile cotton wool swab moistened with normal saline and keeping the eye lids wide apart to avoid contamination from lid margins.It was immediately inoculated in Brain Heart infusion and subjected to standard aerobic culture and identification techniques.RESULTS:Totally,72 eyes(36%) conjunctival sacs were sterile.Predominant aerobes isolated were Staphylococcus spp.in 120(60%) followed by Haemophilus in 16(8%),diphtheroids in 10(5%),and Escherichia coli(E.coli) in 4(2%).A single aerobe was isolated from 98 eyes(49%) while 30 eyes(15%) yielded more than 1 aerobe.Staphylococcus epidermidis(S.epidermidis) was the most common bacterium,found alone in 58 eyes(29%) and in combination with another aerobe in 30 eyes(15%),followed by Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus) in 18(9%) and 10 eyes(5%) respectively.CONCLUSION:S.epidermidis is the most common commensal organism followed by Haemophilus species.diphtheroids occupied the third position which otherwise are found more abundantly in literature.Pathogens like S.aureus,Staphylococcus citreus and E.coli were also found.Therefore,preoperative administration of topical broad spectrum antibiotics is extremely important in prophylaxis against ocular infection.The variation in microflora of normal conjunctiva in this part of world can be attributed to geographical,climatic and ethnic characteristics of the population under study.

Objective: To evaluate the epidemiology of candidiasis and the antifungal susceptibility profile of Candida species isolated from the intensive care unit(ICU) patients.Methods: The study used a qualitative descriptive design. Relevant samples depending on organ system involvement from 100 ICU patients were collected and processed.Identification and speciation of the isolates was conducted by the biochemical tests.Antifungal susceptibility testing was carried out as per CLSI-M27-A3 document.Results: Ninety Candida isolates were isolated from the different clinical samples: urine(43.3%), tracheal aspirate(31.1%), urinary catheter(12.2%), endotracheal tube(7.8%),abdominal drains(3.3%), sputum(2.2%). The incidence of candidiasis caused by nonalbicans Candida(NAC) species(63.3%) was higher than Candida albicans(36.7%).The various NAC species were isolated as: Candida tropicalis(41.1%), Candida glabrata(10%), Candida parapsilosis(6.7%), Candida krusei(3.3%) and Candida kefyr(2.2%). The overall isolation rate of Candida species from samples was 53.3%. Antifungal susceptibility indicated that 37.8% and 7.8% of the Candida isolates were resistant to fluconazole and amphotericin B, respectively.Conclusions: Predominance of NAC species in ICU patients along with the increasing resistance being recorded to fluconazole which has a major bearing on the morbidity and management of these patients and needs to be further worked upon.
