A neural network-based electromyography motion classifier for upper limb activities

The objective of the work is to investigate the classifcation of different movements based on the surface electromyogram(SEMG)pattern recognition method.The testing was conducted for four arm movements using several experiments with artificial neural network class fication scheme.Six time domain features were extracted and consequently dlassification was implemented using back propagation neural dassifier(BPNC).Further,the realization of projected network was verified using cross validation(CV)process;hence ANOVA algorithm was carried out.Performance of the network is analyzed by considering mean square error(MSE)value.A comparison was performed between the extracted feat ures and back propagation network results reported in the literature.The concurrent result indicates the significance of proposed network with classification accuracy(CA)of 100%recorded from two channels,while analysis of variance technique helps in investigating the effectiveness of classified sigmal for recognition tasks.

Study of inhomogeneous and heterogeneous ultrasonic waves in kidney stones

Renal calculi are inhomogenous, heterogeneous and complex in nature. There is a large variation in their chemical composition due to food habits of patients and hence geography of the inhabitants in different parts of the world. Ultrasonic studies are made to investigate various physical and other constants of such renal calculi. A double-probe through transmission technique is used to study various propagation parameters. The ultrasonic waves displayed on cathode-ray oscilloscope are complex and complicated in nature. Complete analysis of such wave patterns is given in the present study. The data reported would help in the design of an u ltrasonic lithotripter.

Ultrasonic studies in rubberised shoe sole materials

Ultrasonic parameters including the wave velocity, the characteristic acoustic impedance and the dynamic modulus of elasticity of rubberised shoe sole material have been evaluated by using a double- probe- through transmiss ion technique at a frequency of 2. 5 MHz.The value of ultrasonic parameters are found to vary from sample to sample due to variation in the molecular structure. These parameters may provide an index for the quality of rubber material for making better shoes.

Diabetic neuropathies are a family of nerve disorders caused by diabetes. Symptoms of the disease include nerve palsy, mononeuropathy, mononeuropathy multiplex, diabetic amyotrophy, painful polyneuropathy, autonomic neu- ropathy, and thoracoabdominal neuropathy. In this study, type 2 diabetes in rats was induced with nicotinamide- streptozotocin. Drug treatment was initiated on the d 15, with the combination regimen of metformin, pioglitazone and glimipiride or metformin and sitagliptin or sitagliptin, amitriptyline and sitagliptin and led to significantly im- proved glycemic control, increased grip strength and paw jumping response on d 21, 28 and 35 （P 〈 0.001）. Signif- icant increases in blood protein levels and decreases in urinary protein levels were observed in the animals treated with the different regimens on d 21, 28 and 35 （P 〈 0.001）. Combined treatment of streptozotocin and nicotinamide caused marked degeneration of nerve cells, while administration of metformin and sitagliptin showed tissue regen- eration and no body weight gain. In conclusion, treatment with sitagliptin and sitagliptin combined with metformin or amitriptyline results in no body weight gain, but causes an increase in grip strength and pain sensitivity, exhibits neural protection, and reverses the alteration of biochemical parameters in rats with streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced type 2 diabetes.
