The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the leading date producing countries. Unfortunately, this important fruit crop is under great threat from the red palm weevil （RPW）（Rhynchophorus ferrugineus）, which is a highly invasive pest. Several techniques, including visual inspection, acoustic sensors, sniffer dogs, and pheromone traps have been tried to detect the early stages of a RPW infestation; however, each method has suffered certain logistical and implementation issues. We have applied laser induced breakdown spectroscopy （LIBS） for the early detection of RPW infestation. Through the analysis of the observed LIBS spectra of different infested and healthy samples, we have found presence of Ca, Mg, Na, C, K elements and OH, CN molecules. The spectra also reveal that with the population growth of the pest, the intensity of Mg and Ca atomic lines in LIBS spectra increases rapidly. Similar behavior is observed in the molecular lines of LIBS spectra. The obtained results indicate that the LIBS technique can be used for the early detection of RPW infestation without damaging the date palms.

A series of novel unsymmetrical N-（4-oxo-2-phenyl-3（4H）-quinazolinoyl）-N-（aryl） acetamidines was synthesized by reacting ethyl（1H）-N-（4-oxo-2-phenylquinazolin-3（4H）-y1）ethanimidoate（2） and suitable reactive aromatic ***＇ determination of the synthesized compounds was carried out using spectroscopic techniques including IR,~1H NMR,and mass spectrometry. Amino-functionalized Zr-MOF(amino-Zr-MOF)was synthesized using 2-aminoterephthalic acid as an organic *** physicochemical properties of the material were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and N_(2) adsorption to understand its crystalline structure,morphology,thermal stability,and porous ***_(2) adsorption isotherms on amino-Zr-MOF were obtained at 1 atm and at different *** addition,CO_(2) and CH_(4) adsorption at high pressure(up to 10 atm)was also ***_(2) adsorption capacity on amino-Zr-MOF was 9 mmol/g at 988 kPa,0℃,while CH_(4) adsorption capacity was 3.7 mmol/g at 900 kPa,0℃.The heat of CO_(2) adsorption on amino-Zr-MOF was estimated to be 29.4 kJ/*** column tests of CO_(2) adsorption were performed at different concentrations of CO_(2) in nitrogen at 20 mL/min and 0.7 g adsorbent and total adsorbed amounts of CO_(2) within the column during the breakthrough time were calculated to be 4.55,5.26 and 4.37 mmol/g at 10%,15%and 20%CO_(2),respectively.

Estimating intersection turning volumes from actuated traffic signal information

Actuated traffic signals usually use loop detectors. The current practice in many cities is to install four consecutive loop detectors in each lane to reduce the chance of undetected vehicles. Due to practical reasons, all four loop detectors in each lane and other detectors referring to the same phase are spliced together. Thus, it is possible for several vehicles to be counted as one single car. This way of detector wiring to the cabinet reduces the accuracy of detectors for collecting traffic volumes. Our preliminary studies show cases with an error greater than 75 percent. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to provide a simple method to obtain turning volumes from signal information in actuated non-coordinated traffic signals without using loop detector data. To produce the required data, a simulation was performed in VISSIM with different input volumes. To change turning volumes, a code was developed in COM interface. With this code, the inputs did not have to be changed manually. In addition, the COM code stored the outputs. Data were then exported to a single Excel file. Afterwards, regression and the adaptive neural fuzzy inference system （ANFIS） were used to build models to obtain turning volumes. The accuracy of models is defined in terms of mean absolute percent error （MAPE）. Results of our two case studies show that during peak hours, there is a high correlation between actuated green time and volumes. This method does not need extensive data collection and is easy to be employed. The results also show that ANFIS produces more accurate models compared to regression.

A new heuristic for task scheduling in heterogeneous computing environment

Heterogeneous computing (HC) environment utilizes diverse resources with different computational capabilities to solve computing-intensive applications having diverse computational requirements and constraints. The task assignment problem in HC environment can be formally defined as for a given set of tasks and machines, assigning tasks to machines to achieve the minimum makespan. In this paper we propose a new task scheduling heuristic, high standard deviation first (HSTDF), which considers the standard deviation of the expected execution time of a task as a selection criterion. Standard deviation of the ex- pected execution time of a task represents the amount of variation in task execution time on different machines. Our conclusion is that tasks having high standard deviation must be assigned first for scheduling. A large number of experiments were carried out to check the effectiveness of the proposed heuristic in different scenarios, and the comparison with the existing heuristics (Max-min, Sufferage, Segmented Min-average, Segmented Min-min, and Segmented Max-min) clearly reveals that the proposed heuristic outperforms all existing heuristics in terms of average makespan.

Objective: To investigate the pharmacological basis of its uses of Phyla nodiflora(P. nodiflora) for the treatment of anomalies predominantly by smooth muscle containing tissues such as gastrointestinal/vascular/broncho spasm and cardiovascular ***: The crude hydroalcoholic extract of P. nodiflora(***) and its fractions were evaluated on isolated rabbit jejunum, rat trachea, aorta and atrium. To access the contractile or relaxant effects of testing materials, the tissues were mounted in isolated organ bath and responses were recorded with transducers coupled with data acquisition ***/c mice were challenged with castor oil for the assessment of in-vivo antidiarrheal activity. Normotensive rats were used for in-vivo hypotensive ***: Hydroalcoholic extract of *** at variable concentrations inhibited the natural spontaneous rhythm and 80 mmol/L K^+ mediated contractions in isolated segment of jejunum with EC_(50) values of 3.18 and 1.91 mg/mL respectively. Verapamil, a Ca^(2+) channel blocker, demonstrated akin pattern in jejunum and therefore possibly suggesting calcium blocking activity. On isolated rat tracheal tissue, *** showed relaxation of high-K^+and carbachol mediated contractions(EC_(50) values: 1.24 and 2.42 mg/mL). *** treatment relaxed the rat aortic ring in a cumulative doses with high-K^+ and phenylephrine-induced contractions(EC_(50) values 0.25 and 0.92 mg/mL). Activity based fractionation of *** showed that dichloromethane fraction was more potent for relaxing the tissues spasm compared to aqueous fraction. In-vivo experiments, significant protection by ***(P < 0.05) was observed in castor oil-induced diarrhea(50–500 mg/kg)whereas hypotensive effect in anesthetized rats was seen at the dose range of 1–10 mg/kg of ***(P < 0.05).Conclusion: This study suggests the blockage of calcium channel in the smooth muscles as a pharmacological application to make usage of P. nodiflora in the management of diarrhea, as
