The present work aim. to study the drought stress effects on polyam.ne content and its relationship with growth and developm.nt in seeds, during cell division (from.the beginning and until 17 days after pollination) and grain filling (until reaching the physiological m.turity) stages. Factorial experim.nt based on Random.zed Com.lete Block (RCB) design was carried out with three replications. Two factors of the experim.nt were considered: the level of irrigation (irrigation without and with drought stress during cell division stage and with drought stress during grain filling stage) and the level of wheat genotype (drought-resistant, sem.-resistant and sensitive genotypes). As control treatm.nt, soil m.isture content of the field was considered. For drought-stress treatm.nt, the 50% of the soil m.isture content in control treatm.nt was established. According to the experim.ntal results, Putrescine content value is higher in control treatm.nt which develops seeds of drought-resistant genotypes than that are registered for sem.-resistant and sensitive genotypes. Both drought stress treatm.nts induced significant rises in putrescine am.unt in the different genotypes of the study. The rises of putrescine content in sensitive and sem.-resistant genotypes, however, were higher than in resistant ones, and the highest rise in putrescine content appeared in m.nning sem.-resistant genotype during the stage of grain filling (27 days after pollination). Exerting drought stress in both stages of cell division and grain filling led to significant increase in sperm.ne and sperm.dine contents of developing seeds of entire genotypes of the study. The highest sperm.dine content during grain filling stage occurred in sensitive genotypes of Shark and Tevee’s, and the lowest occurred in sem.-resistant genotype of Sabalan. Interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) are im.ortant players in the sym.hony of gut m.tility. They have a very signif icant physiological role orchestrating the norm.l peristaltic activity of the digestive system. They are the pacem.ker cells in gastrointestinal (GI) m.scles. Absence, reduction in num.er or altered integrity of the ICC network m.y have a dram.tic effect on GI system.m.tility. m.re understanding of ICC physiology will foster advances in physiology of gut m.tility which will help in a future breakthrough in the pharm.cological interventions to restore norm.l m.tor function of GI tract. This m.ni review describes what is known about the physiologic function and role of ICCs in GI system.m.tility and in a variety of GI system.m.tility disorders.

AIm. To investigate whether the degree of rectal distension could define the rectum.functions as a conduit m.THODS： Response of the rectal and anal pressure to 2 types of rectal balloon distension, rapid volum.nous and slow gradual distention, was recorded in 21 healthy volunteers （12 m.n, 9 wom.n, age 41.7 ± 10.6 years）. The test was repeated with sphincteric squeeze on urgent sensation. RESULTS： Rapid volum.nous rectal distension resulted in a significant rectal pressure increase （P 〈 0.001）, an anal pressure decline （P 〈 0.05） and balloon expulsion. The subjects felt urgent sensation but did not feel the 1^st rectal sensation. On urgent sensation, anal squeeze caused a significant rectal pressure decrease （P 〈 0.001） and urgency disappearance. Slow increm.ntal rectal filling drew a rectom.trogram.with a ＂tone＂ lim. representing a gradual rectal pressure increase during rectal filling, and an ＂evacuation lim.＂ representing a sharp pressure increase during balloon expulsion. The curve recorded both the ist rectal sensation and the urgent sensation. CONCLUSION： The rectum.has apparently two functions： transportation （conduit） and storage, both depending on the degree of rectal filling. If the fecal m.terial received by the rectum.is sm.ll, it is stored in the rectum.until a big volum. is reached that can affect a degree of rectal distension sufficient to initiate the defecation reflex. Large volum. rectal distension evokes directly the rectoanal inhibitory reflex with a resulting defecation.

Objective: To explore the potential of essential oil, as therapeutic m.lecule source, from.olibanum.of Boswellia papyrifera(Burseraceae), leafy stem. of Cym.opogon schoenanthus(Poaceae) and Croton zam.esicus(Euphorbiaceae) and rhizom. of Cyperus rotundus(Cyperaceae) found in Sudan. Respective essential oil was evaluated for antiproliferative, antibacterial and antioxidant activity. m.thods: Essential oils were extracted by hydrodistillation and then analysed by gas chrom.tography coupled to m.ss spectrom.try(GCm.). Anti-proliferative activity was determ.ned against hum.n cell lines(m.F7 and m.Am.231, HT29 and HCT116) by the thiazolyl blue tetrazolium.brom.de(m.T) procedure. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by diphenyl 2 pycril hydrazil(DPPH) assay. Antibacterial activity was determ.ned against two Gram.positive and two Gram.negative bacteria by m.crodilution m.thod. Results: The essential oil from.olibanum.of Boswellia papyriferacontained m.inly alcohol and ester derivatives(46.82%) while m.noterpenes(69.84%) dom.nated in Corton zam.esicus oil. Sesquiterpenes were the m.st highly represented classes of terpene derivatives in Cyperus schoenanthus(71.59%) and Cyperus rotundus(44.26%). Oil of Cym.opogon schoenanthus revealed the best anti-proliferative activity against HCT116 cell line with IC50 value at(19.1 ± 2.0) μg/m.L. Oil of Croton zam.esicus showed the best antioxidant activity [EC50(4.20 ± 0.19) m./m.L]. All oils showed good antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus with m.nim.m.inhibitory concentration(m.C) value ranged from.16 to 250 μg/m.L. Conclusions: The results suggest that the essential oils of these plants could be used as a source of natural anti-proliferative, antioxidant and antibacterial agents.

Functional gastrointestinal disorders （FGIDs） represent a com.on and im.ortant class of disorders within gastroenterology. Rom. Ⅰ, the first edition was published in 1994, with sym.tom.based diagnostic criteria for FGIDs. These criteria began to change the diagnostic approach to F-GIDs, and no longer considered ＂diagnoses of exclusion＂ but rather ＂diagnoses of inclusion＂. Rom. Ⅱ, the second edition published in 2000, resulted from.the continual process of analyzing new scientific and clinical evidence in the study of F-GIDs. Rom. Ⅱ, diagnostic criteria for irritable bowel syndrom. （IBS）, was extended with a focus on the frequency of sym.tom. occurring twelve weeks （not necessarily consecutive weeks） within twelve m.nths. ROlE Ⅲ, the third edition, conservative one, was published in Septem.er 2006, with changes m.de only where there is good evidence to do so. Som. of the differences between Rom. Ⅱ and Rom. Ⅲ criteria are highlighted in this issue.

The m.in objective of this work was to overcom. seasonality in tom.to production under hot tropical sum.er conditions, as well as to evaluate the adaptability and productivity of cherry and norm.l size indeterm.nate tom.to varieties. The tested varieties were the standard varieties, Chanoa, m.rel, Sensie and Yusra and the cherry varieties, Tom. and Elitrro. The cherry variety Elitrro recorded the highest plant height followed by the norm.l m.rel. The cherry varieties over-num.ered the classic varieties for m.an num.er of fruits per cluster and m.an num.er of fruits per m.ter square. There was no significant difference between the best yielders, the classic varieties Chanoa (25.63 kg/m.) and Yusra (24.13 kg/m.) and the cherry variety Elitrro (24.00 kg/m.). Yusra recorded the highest fruit diam.ter (60-70 m.). The classic type tom.toes are well known and of high dem.nd in Sudan that give Chanoa and Yusra better adoption chances. Our results clearly indicated that production of sum.er tom.to under cooled plastic house conditions is a new technique that has the potential to overcom. the seasonality of tom.to production under Sudan and sim.lar tropical condition.

Head traum. is one of com.on injury related m.rtality and m.rbidity. Blood biom.rkers are valuable tools for the identification and characterization of initial injury and secondary pathological processes for traum.tic brain injury (TBI). This study evaluated the perform.nce of a recently developed visfatin and its correlation with other blood circulating biom.rkers that reflect specific pathological m.chanism. including neuro inflam.atory, neuron injury and oxidative dam.ge in m.derate to severe TBI patients. Peripheral blood was taken from.TBI patients (n = 78) at hospital adm.ssion, m.xim.m.6 hours post-injury. Severity and neurological outcom. were assessed using the Glasgow Com. Scale (GCS) and blood level of: visfatin, neuron specific enolase (NSE), m.londialdehyde (m.A), superoxide dism.tase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH). Concentrations of visfatin (28 ± 1.68 μg/L, 25 ± 2.09 μg/L) was significantly higher (p m.derate groups of TBI patients respectively com.ared to control group (7.62 ± 0.87 μg/L), NSE concentrations also were significantly higher (p m., 13.49 ± 2.66 ng/m.) com.ared to control group (4.3 ± 0.52 ng/m.), m.A was significantly elevated (p m.l/L) com.ared to control group (5.12 ± 0.76 μm.l/L), while SOD (245.12 ± 24.2 U/L, 276.097 ± 30.8 U/L) and GSH (112.07 ± 2.09 μm.l/L, 119.26 ± 2.7 μm.l/L) were highly significantly decreased (p m.ared to control group (304.17 ± 27.17 U/L and 151.64 ± 9.9 μm.l/L) respectively. Visfatin was positively correlated with NSE and m.A, while there was negative correlation with SOD and GSH. In conclusion blood level of visfatin in correlation with other blood biom.rkers can be used for prediction of severity of TBI cases.

Avocado, Cabbage, and Ginger are a part of a regular hum.n diet and have antioxidant, and antitum.r effects. The effect of AVOE （avocado）, GE （Ginger） and CE （Cabbage） extracts separately on liver NO （nitric oxide）, m.A （m.londialdehyde）, as well as serum.AST （aspartate am.notransferase）, ALT （alanine am.notransferase）, total bilirubin, TC （total cholesterol）, T.G （triglyceride）, HDL cholesterol （high-density lipoprotein）, LDL cholesterol （low-density lipoprotein）, TSH （thyroid-stim.lating horm.ne）, T3 （Triiodothyronine）, T4 （Thyroxine） in rats treated and untreated with CC14 （carbon tetrachloride） was studied. The levels of NO, m.A, as well as serum.AST, ALT, total bilirubin, TC, T.G, LDL, and TSH, showed an elevation while, HDL, T3 and T4 showed the decline in rats treated with CC14 as com.ared to control. Treatm.nt of rats with AVOE and GE pre, during, and post CC14 adm.nistration im.rove NO, m.A, as well as serum.AST, ALT, total bilirubin, TC, T.G, HDL, LDL, TSH, T3, T4 as com.ared to CC14. Treatm.nt of rats with CE pre, during, and post CC14 adm.nistration did not im.rove in the thyroid horm.nes and lipid profile levels as com.ared to CC14. These findings suggest that avocado and ginger treatm.nt exerts a protective effect on m.tabolic disorders by decreasing oxidative stress.
