Chemical composition, antiproliferative, antioxidant and antibacterial activities of essential oils from aromatic plants growing in Sudan

Objective: To explore the potential of essential oil, as therapeutic molecule source, from olibanum of Boswellia papyrifera(Burseraceae), leafy stems of Cymbopogon schoenanthus(Poaceae) and Croton zambesicus(Euphorbiaceae) and rhizome of Cyperus rotundus(Cyperaceae) found in Sudan. Respective essential oil was evaluated for antiproliferative, antibacterial and antioxidant activity. Methods: Essential oils were extracted by hydrodistillation and then analysed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry(GCMS). Anti-proliferative activity was determined against human cell lines(MCF7 and MDAMB231, HT29 and HCT116) by the thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide(MTT) procedure. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by diphenyl 2 pycril hydrazil(DPPH) assay. Antibacterial activity was determined against two Gram-positive and two Gram-negative bacteria by microdilution method. Results: The essential oil from olibanum of Boswellia papyriferacontained mainly alcohol and ester derivatives(46.82%) while monoterpenes(69.84%) dominated in Corton zambesicus oil. Sesquiterpenes were the most highly represented classes of terpene derivatives in Cyperus schoenanthus(71.59%) and Cyperus rotundus(44.26%). Oil of Cymbopogon schoenanthus revealed the best anti-proliferative activity against HCT116 cell line with IC50 value at(19.1 ± 2.0) μg/m L. Oil of Croton zambesicus showed the best antioxidant activity [EC50(4.20 ± 0.19) mg/m L]. All oils showed good antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus with minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) value ranged from 16 to 250 μg/m L. Conclusions: The results suggest that the essential oils of these plants could be used as a source of natural anti-proliferative, antioxidant and antibacterial agents.

The impact of foot reflexology on fatigue and sleep quality in school-aged children undergoing hemodialysis

Objective:This study aimed to evaluate the effects of foot reflexology on fatigue and sleep quality in school-aged children receiving ***:A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was *** children of ages 6-12 undergoing in-center hemodialysis were *** Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)and Inventory of Fatigue Symptom(IFS)scales were administered at *** then received 30 min of foot reflexology massage before hemodialysis sessions 3 days per week for 12 *** administration of the sleep and fatigue scales occurred after the intervention ***:Reflexology massage led to significant improvements in sleep quality components,including duration(0%-30%normal sleepers),efficiency(0%-50%>85%),latency(50%-0%>60 min),disturbances,and daytime *** mean PSQI score decreased from 18.2 to 9.7(P<0.05).Fatigue severity substantially decreased,with the mean IFS score improving from 105.7 to 64.1(P<0.05).Conclusion:Foot reflexology is an effective nursing intervention for reducing fatigue and improving sleep quality in children on hemodialysis,warranting integration into routine care.

Frequency of Rotavirus among under 5 Children Admitted to Wad Madani Pediatric Teaching Hospital with Diarrhea, Gezira State, Sudan (2021-2022)

Rotavirus is the leading cause of acute gastroenteritis and responsible for 20% of death in children under 5 years of age approximately 111 million episodes of gastroenteritis due to Rotavirus in under 5 children, which result in 25 million visits to clinic, 2 million hospitalization and 352,000 - 592,000 deaths. Children in the poorest countries account 82% of rotaviruses death. Diarrhea disease are major cause of death and disease among children under five years, a child on average suffers 2 to 3 attacks of diarrhea every year. Stools samples were collected from 196 children suffering from diarrhea and were tested for rotaviruses by immune chromatography test antigen (ICT-Ag), ELISA and RT PCR The data were analyzed using statistical package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results showed that prevalence of rotavirus was 26/196 (13.3%) by ICT Ag and ELISA and confirmed by RT-PC R. 87.8% of the children were vaccinated by Rota vaccine, 70% of their mothers not using soap for cleaning the children and thought diarrhea not infectious disease and believed it was caused by teething. In conclusion there was a decrease in prevalence of diarrhea by Rotavirus due to insertion of Rota vaccine in routine vaccination, rotavirus infection mostly occurs in poor family that not able to provide safe water and due to poor sanitation and low education of mother beside that some children suffered from malnutrition, so it recommended to incorporate ELISA as a diagnostic tool in routine diagnosis of rotavirus among children suffered from gastroenteritis.

Interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) are important players in the symphony of gut motility. They have a very signif icant physiological role orchestrating the normal peristaltic activity of the digestive system. They are the pacemaker cells in gastrointestinal (GI) muscles. Absence, reduction in number or altered integrity of the ICC network may have a dramatic effect on GI system motility. More understanding of ICC physiology will foster advances in physiology of gut motility which will help in a future breakthrough in the pharmacological interventions to restore normal motor function of GI tract. This mini review describes what is known about the physiologic function and role of ICCs in GI system motility and in a variety of GI system motility disorders.

Aim: To investigate depression, anxiety, PTSD, and insomnia levels among Sudanese citizens after a year has passed since the start of Armed Forces conflict in Sudan. Methods: An online survey was distributed. It is composed of five parts, covering the following areas: 1) sociodemographic data;2) depression assessment;3) generalized anxiety disorder assessment;4) post-traumatic stress disorder assessment;and 5) insomnia assessment. Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 27 was used for data analysis;frequency and percentage were used to describe the qualitative variables. Spearman’s correlation analysis and Chi-square test were used for correlation and association analysis;a P-value equal to or less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The study included 283 participants, primarily female (76.0%), with a mean age of 35.26 ± 6.96 years. The majority of participants were married (50.5%) and had a university level of education (50.2%). At the start of the war, 70.3% of participants were inside the war zones, and at the time of data collection, 73.5% were outside Sudan. The length of stay in the war zone ranged from 1 to 300 days, with a mean of 48.59 ± 70.284 days. Additionally, 63.3% of participants stated that they did not receive any form of mental health intervention, and the remaining did not provide an answer. There was a high prevalence of moderate-severe depression (50.5%), moderate anxiety (35.3%), PTSD (56.5%), and sub-threshold insomnia (53.4%) among the participants. Correlation analyses revealed associations between demographic factors such as sex, age, marital status, and education and mental health issues. Notably, female participants showed a higher prevalence of PTSD (53.0%) compared to male participants (67.6%). Conclusions: There is a substantial impact of war-related trauma on mental health, revealing a high prevalence of moderate-severe depression, moderate anxiety, PTSD, and sub-threshold insomnia among the particip

Epidemiology of schistosomiasis in Gezira area Central Sudan and analysis of cytokine profiles

Objective:To determine and compare anti-schistosoma IgC,interleukin-10(IL-10) and interferon-γ(IFN-γ)levels in the serum of patients and endemic controls and to investigate the epidemiological situation of Al-Hebaika village in the northern part of Gezira Agricultural Irrigation Scheme in ***:During 2005 survey,serum were collected from 118 *** eight were parasitological positive(patients),and 50 were negative(endemic controls).Indirect ELISA was used to measure and compare the levels of immunoglobulin C(IgC) against Schistsoma mansoni(***) soluble worm antigen(SWA) in the patients and endemic control groups from the village and compared with 20 healthy non endemic *** ELJSA was also used to measure and compare IL-10 and IFN-γin the serum of the selected ***:The overall prevalence of *** was 20.0%and 0.9%in the first and the second surveys respectively,while the intensity of infection was the same in the two surveys 1.38[geometric mean egg count(GMFC)].The overall prevalence of *** infection was 68.5% and 15.4%,while the intensity of infection was 2.75(GMEC) and 1.70(GMEC) in the two surveys *** reactivity against SWA showed no significant difference between Schistosoma positive patients and endemic ***,there were high significant differences between each of these two groups and the non endemic control group(P= 0,000).Schistosoma patients and exposed controls had significantly higher IL-10 concentration compared with non endemic *** endemic controls showed significantly higher IFN-γconcentration than patients(P = 0.000).Also there was very significant difference between IFN-γlevels of each of patients endemic controls and that of the non endemic controls(P = 0.003).Conclusions:The study concluded that IFN-γhas a role in the natural resistant to schistosoma mansoni infection. Loading and releasing behavior of carboxymethyl cellulose and chitosan complex beads

The complex beads of carboxymethyl cellulose（CMC） and chitosan（CHI） that are fabricated by interfacial complexation have a core-shell structure composed of a thin skin layer and a 3D entangled internal structure,which endows the beads with adsorption possibilities toward anionic and cationic molecules via electrostatic ***,the loading and releasing behavior of such a system is essential and fundamental for their application yet has not been studied *** this work,the influences of beads physical state,adsorbent dosage,agitation speed,solution pH and temperature on the loading behavior were *** CMC@CHI beads demonstrated different loading efficiency to three typical dyes of methylene blue（MB）,acid blue-113（AB）,and methyl orange（MO） with different charge *** adsorption rate followed an order of MB>AB>MO,giving 97.4%,73.3% and 20.2%,*** releasing of three dyes from CMC@CHI beads also exhibited different rates,and MB release was found to be prolonged compared to AB and *** loading mechanism of dyes was further investigated via X-ray photoelectron *** CMC@CHI beads may have possible applications in mixed dye removal as well as encapsulating systems of drugs or sensitive chemicals with different charges.

Care4U: Integrated healthcare systems based on blockchain

During the COVID-19 crisis, the need to stay at home has increased dramatically. In addition, the number of sickpeople, especially elderly persons, has increased exponentially. In such a scenario, home monitoring of patientscan ensure remote healthcare at home using advanced technologies such as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT).The IoMT can monitor and transmit sensitive health data;however, it may be vulnerable to various attacks. In thispaper, an efficient healthcare security system is proposed for IoMT applications. In the proposed system, themedical sensors can transmit sensed encrypted health data via a mobile application to the doctor for ***, three consortium blockchains are constructed for load balancing of transactions and reducing transactionlatency. They store the credentials of system entities, doctors' prescriptions and recommendations according to thedata transmitted via mobile applications, and the medical treatment process. Besides, cancelable biometrics areused for providing authentication and increasing the security of the proposed medical system. The investigationalresults show that the proposed system outperforms existing work where the proposed model consumed lessprocessing time by values of 18%, 22%, and 40%, and less energy for processing a 200 KB file by values of 9%,13%, and 17%. Finally, the proposed model consumed less memory usage by values of 7%, 7%, and 18.75%. Fromthese results, it is clear that the proposed system gives a very reliable and secure performance for efficientlysecuring medical applications.

Rome Ⅲ:The functional gastrointestinal disorders, third edition, 2006

Functional gastrointestinal disorders （FGIDs） represent a common and important class of disorders within gastroenterology. Rome Ⅰ, the first edition was published in 1994, with symptom-based diagnostic criteria for FGIDs. These criteria began to change the diagnostic approach to F-GIDs, and no longer considered ＂diagnoses of exclusion＂ but rather ＂diagnoses of inclusion＂. Rome Ⅱ, the second edition published in 2000, resulted from the continual process of analyzing new scientific and clinical evidence in the study of F-GIDs. Rome Ⅱ, diagnostic criteria for irritable bowel syndrome （IBS）, was extended with a focus on the frequency of symptoms occurring twelve weeks （not necessarily consecutive weeks） within twelve months. ROlE Ⅲ, the third edition, conservative one, was published in September 2006, with changes made only where there is good evidence to do so. Some of the differences between Rome Ⅱ and Rome Ⅲ criteria are highlighted in this issue.

Rectal prolapse: Diagnosis and clinical management

The exact cause of rectal prolapse is not well addressed,but it is often associated with long standing constipation,advanced age,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and some neurological *** prolapse is usually only a symptom,which needs a focus on discovery of the underlying pathology or *** different clinical presentations are often combined and called rectal *** prolapse can be divided into full thickness rectal prolapse where the entire rectum protrudes beyond the anus,mucosal prolapse where only the rectal mucosa (not the entire wall) prolapses,and internal intussuception wherein the rectum collapses but does not exit the *** constipation and straining may contribute to the development of rectal prolapse,simply correcting these problems may not improve the prolapse once it has *** are many different approaches to surgical correction of rectal prolapse.
