Effect of Zn binding to phytate and humic substances on its uptake by wheat(Triticum durum L.)as affected by carbonates and Fe oxides

Although complexation with soil organic matter may improve zinc(Zn)bioavailability to plants,the effect of Zn sorbent surface on the use of complexed Zn by plants remains *** objective of this research was to elucidate how Zn complexation with humic substances(HS)and phytate affects the uptake of Zn by wheat plants depending on the main sorbent surface in growth media,i.e.,carbonates and Fe *** this end,two pot experiments were performed,one using Fe oxide-coated siliceous as the siliceous growth medium sand and the other using a mixture of calcareous sand and siliceous sand as the calcareous growth *** experiment involved three Zn sources,Zn-HS complex,Zn phytate,and ZnSO_(4).All sources were applied with surface irrigation at two Zn rates(0.25 and 2 mg kg^(-1) growth medium).The Zn-HS complex significantly increased Zn uptake by plants in both media,relative to the other two Zn sources,but no significant difference was observed between Zn phytate and ZnSO_(4).In the calcareous medium,Zn-HS complex and Zn phytate resulted in significantly higher dry biomass yields of wheat than ZnSO_(4).In the siliceous medium,spike and shoot dry biomass yields with Zn-HS complex at the low rate and Zn phytate at both rates were not significantly different from those with ZnSO_(4) at the high *** harvest,approximately 50%of the Zn applied as Zn-HS complex remained extractable by diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid(DTPA),while this proportion was less than 20%for the other Zn ***,Zn-HS complex and Zn phytate are sources of available Zn for plants,and they are more effective than ZnSO_(4) in increasing plant growth,particularly when carbonates are the main Zn sorbent surface.

Risk factors for hepatic steatosis in adults with cystic fibrosis: Similarities to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

AIM To investigate the clinical, biochemical and imaging characteristics of adult cystic fibrosis(CF) patients with hepatic steatosis as compared to normal CF *** We performed a retrospective review of adult CF patients in an academic outpatient setting during 2016. Baseline characteristics, genetic mutation analysis as well as laboratory values were collected. Abdominal imaging(ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance) was used to determine presence of hepatic steatosis. We compare patients with hepatic steatosis to normal *** Data was collected on 114 patients meeting inclusion criteria. Seventeen patients(14.9%) were found to have hepatic steatosis on imaging. Being overweight(BMI > 25)(P = 0.019) and having a higher pp FEV1(75 vs 53, P = 0.037) were significantly associated with hepatic steatosis. Patients with hepatic steatosis had a significantly higher median alanine aminotransferase level(27 vs 19, P = 0.048). None of the hepatic steatosis patients had frank CF liver disease, cirrhosis or portal hypertension. We found no significant association with pancreatic insufficiency or CF related *** Hepatic steatosis appears to be a clinically and phenotypically distinct entity from CF liver disease. The lack of association with malnourishment and the significant association with higher BMI and higher pp FEV1 demonstrate similarities with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Long term prospective studies are needed to ascertain whether CF hepatic steatosis progresses to fibrosis and cirrhosis.

Angiosarcomatous component in gliosarcoma: case report and consideration of diagnostic challenge and hemorrhagic propensity

An angiosarcomatous component in gliosarcoma may be associated with an increased intraoperative hemorrhagic risk and preoperative diagnostic challenge. We report a unique case of gliosarcoma with an angiosarcomatous component in a 61-year-old man. His brain MRI demonstrated a well-demarcated right occipital tumor with multiple flow voids and rim-like enhancement as well as intratumoral strip and nodular enhancements. He underwent a craniotomy for tumor resection. Intraoperatively, significant tumor hemorrhage required greater efforts to control intraoperative bleeding and to maintain hemostasis. Pathological examination of the tumor revealed alternating gliomatous and sarcomatous/angiosarcomatous components with intratumoral hemorrhage. He was postoperatively treated with chemoradiation. The tumor recurred at 9 months, for which the second resection was performed with similarly greater efforts to achieve hemostasis. The recurrent tumor was pathologically similar despite treatment-associated changes. Awareness of this angiosarcomatous component in gliosarcoma with the hemorrhagic risk is important for both the preoperative diagnosis and surgical management.

Evaluation of bearing, gears and gearboxes performance with different wind turbine gear oils

The oil viscosity specification for wind turbine gear oils is ISO VG 320,although there are quite different viscosity indexes oils for that viscosity *** work evaluates the behaviour of different base oil formulations,since polyalphaolefin(PAO),mineral,ester and polyalkeleneglycol(PAG)that withstand quite different viscosity *** oils evaluation was done in rolling bearing tests and gear *** behaviour was compared for operating conditions in the range observable in a wind turbine *** experimental results showed considerable differences between the different oils and it was observed that depending on the contact type the relative behaviour of the lubricants would change,i.e.,the best lubricant for the rolling bearing would not imply the best result on the gear *** gear geometry is also very important toward the transmission efficiency,once using a low loss gear concept a decrease of up to 25%in torque loss could be *** models were implemented with the purpose of performing a better simulation of the mechanical system and also to obtain the friction coefficient promoted by the tested oils.

The paper deals with the mathematical concept of jerk created in 1825 by Carl Jacobi and introduced in 1936, forapplications purposes in dynamics by Aurel A. Beles. Extended in seismic engineering that phenomenon of dynamic amplification isbased on the first law of conservation in Mechanics combined with the theory of dislocations developed by Lev Landau. Finally, thetwo study cases presented in the paper recommend this simply analysis method for advanced practical cases with any degree ofaccuracy as well as in solving some plausibility inquire as requested by ISO 13822：2010.

Accurate and reliable predictions of pest species distributions in forest ecosystems are urgently needed by forest managers to develop management plans and monitor new areas of potential ***-only species distribution models are commonly used in these *** maximum entropy algorithm(MaxEnt)has gained popularity for modelling species ***,MaxEnt was used to model the spatial distribution of the Mexican pine bark beetle(Dendroctonus mexicanus)in a daily fashion by using forecast data from the Weather Research and Forecasting *** study aimed to exploit freely available geographic and environmental data and software and thus provide a pathway to overcome the lack of costly data and technical guidance that are a challenge to implementing national monitoring and management strategies in developing *** results showed overall agreement values between 60 and 87%.The results of this research can be used for *** monitoring and management and may aid as a model to monitor similar species.

Development and validation of a morphological model for multiple sediment classes

The complexity of sediment dynamics in aquatic systems can be better understood by applying numerical models. The development of a comprehensive morphological model is presented in this *** model aims to predict the sediment transport and bed evolution in natural systems composed of different sediment types. The morphological model was implemented in MOHID, a modelling system that solves the three-dimensional hydrodynamics and advection-diffusion transport of suspended sediments. Multiple sediment classes were taken into account(non-cohesive and cohesive) considering the effects of sediment mixtures and bed consolidation on resistance to erosion. To represent bottom stratigraphy, the bottom column can be divided into several layers. The key points of the simulated processes are discussed in this paper. Model results are assessed in six test cases through comparison with analytic solutions or experimental data. The outcomes demonstrate the model's capacity to simulate the transport dynamics of non-cohesive and cohesive sediments. The speed up of morphological changes by an acceleration factor permitted modelling bed evolution for long time ***, a test case for the Tagus Estuary demonstrated the model's capacity for generating realistic sediment distribution based on the local hydrodynamic conditions. Limitations in the availability of bed composition data can be overcome by considering a warm-up run to provide realistic initial conditions for further predictions of morphological developments.
