A Workable Solution for Reducing the Large Number of Vehicle and Pedestrian Accidents Occurring on a Yellow Light

Traffic intersections are incredibly dangerous for drivers and pedestrians. Statistics from both Canada and the U.S. show a high number of fatalities and serious injuries related to crashes at intersections. In Canada, during 2019, the National Collision Database shows that 28% of traffic fatalities and 42% of serious injuries occurred at intersections. Likewise, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) found that about 40% of the estimated 5,811,000 accidents in the U.S. during the year studied were intersection-related crashes. In fact, a major survey by the car insurance industry found that nearly 85% of drivers could not identify the correct action to take when approaching a yellow traffic light at an intersection. One major reason for these accidents is the “yellow light dilemma,” the ambiguous situation where a driver should stop or proceed forward when unexpectedly faced with a yellow light. This situation is even further exacerbated by the tendency of aggressive drivers to inappropriately speed up on the yellow just to get through the traffic light. A survey of Canadian drivers conducted by the Traffic Injury Research Foundation found that 9% of drivers admitted to speeding up to get through a traffic light. Another reason for these accidents is the increased danger of making a left-hand turn on yellow. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), left turns occur in approximately 22.2% of collisions—as opposed to just 1.2% for right turns. Moreover, a study by CNN found left turns are three times as likely to kill pedestrians than right turns. The reason left turns are so much more likely to cause an accident is because they take a driver against traffic and in the path of oncoming cars. Additionally, most of these left turns occur at the driver’s discretion—as opposed to the distressingly brief left-hand arrow at busy intersections. Estimating Optimal Location of STATCOM and Minimization of Congestion Cost by Locational Marginal Price Using Flower Pollination， and Particle Swarm Optimization Techniques

Restructuring of power market not only introduces competition， but also brings complexity which increases overloading of Transmission Lines (TL). To obliviate this complexity， this paper aims to mitigate the overloading and estimate the optimal location of Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) by reducing congestion for a deregulated power system. The proposed method is based on the use of Locational Marginal Price (LMP) difference technique and congestion cost. LMPs are obtained as a by-product of Optimal Power Flow (OPF)， whereas Congestion Cost (CC) is a function of difference in LMP and power flows. An endeavor is justified by reducing the CCand solution space which can identify the TLs more suitable for placement of STATCOM. Importantly， total real power loss， reactive power loss and total CCare the three main objective functions in this optimization process. The process is implemented by developing an IEEE-69 bus test system which verifies and validates the effectiveness of proposed optimization technique. Additionally， a comparative analysis is enumerated by implementing two optimization techniques: Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The comparative analysis is sufficient to demonstrate the superiority of FPA technique over PSO technique in estimating an optimal placement of a STATCOM. The results from the load-flow analysis illustrate the reduction in CC， total real and reactive power loss using FPA technique over PSO technique. Overall， satisfactory results are obtained without using complex calculations which verify the effectiveness of optimization techniques.

The study investigated the application of radiofrequency(RF)-sputtered TiO2 coatings at various temperatures to enhance the hydrophobicity and corrosion resistance of Al6061 *** research aimed to establish a correlation between the coating process and the resulting surface *** roughness and wettability were quantified with a surface profilometer and ***,chemical boiling and salt spray corrosion tests were conducted to evaluate any topographical changes during these *** analysis further involved the use of field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),energy-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),and X-ray diffraction(XRD)techniques to characterize the deposited *** findings indicated that the TiO2 coating applied at 500℃exhibited the highest water contact angle and superior corrosion resistance compared to other *** characterization confirmed that this specific TiO_(2) coating at 500℃ effectively delays corrosion due to its hydrophobic behavior,making it durable for industrial applications.

Can we predict the incidence of high-grade Clavien-Dindo complications in patients with forgotten encrusted stents undergoing endourologic management?

Objective:Ureteral stents are customarily inserted to facilitate urinary drainage,but they come with their own glitches of being forgotten and/or encrusted leading to serious *** present study aimed to report the complications in patients with forgotten and encrusted stents according to the Clavien-Dindo system specific to urological procedures and identify the factors leading to high-grade(Clavien-Dindo Grade 4A or above)***:The hospital records of patients with forgotten encrusted double-J stents over a period of 8 years were *** parameters recorded included patient demographics,indwelling time,need for percutaneous nephrostomy,hemodialysis,urine culture,blood culture,total blood counts,serum creatinine,radiologic findings,management techniques,number of surgical interventions,modified Clavien-Dindo complications,follow-up,and mortality,if ***:Forty patients were included in the *** median age was 52(range 6-85)*** the total,25(62.5%)patients had a“significant”stent load;31(77.5%)had renal failure or acute kidney injury on presentation;19(47.5%)patients had sepsis at *** the patients presented with sepsis,11(57.9%)patients demonstrated a positive urine culture;and 7/11(63.6%)patients exhibited pan-resistant *** out of 40(30.0%)patients in our series developed high-grade Clavien-Dindo *** univariate analysis,sepsis at presentation(p=0.007),stent load(p=0.031),diabetes(p=0.023),positive urine culture(p=0.007),and stent indwelling time of more than 1 year(p=0.031)were found to be *** multivariate logistic regression analysis,sepsis at presentation(p=0.017)and positive urine culture(p=0.016)were significant predictors for high-grade ***:It is prudent to identify specific risk factors,namely sepsis at presentation and positive urine culture to triage and optimize these patients before surgical management.

Phishing attacks present a persistent and evolving threat in the cybersecurity land-scape,necessitating the development of more sophisticated detection *** machine learning approaches to phishing detection have relied heavily on feature engineering and have often fallen short in adapting to the dynamically changing patterns of phishingUniformResource Locator(URLs).Addressing these challenge,we introduce a framework that integrates the sequential data processing strengths of a Recurrent Neural Network(RNN)with the hyperparameter optimization prowess of theWhale Optimization Algorithm(WOA).Ourmodel capitalizes on an extensive kaggle dataset,featuring over 11,000 URLs,each delineated by 30 *** WOA’s hyperparameter optimization enhances the RNN’s performance,evidenced by a meticulous validation *** results,encapsulated in precision,recall,and F1-score metrics,surpass baseline models,achieving an overall accuracy of 92%.This study not only demonstrates the RNN’s proficiency in learning complex patterns but also underscores the WOA’s effectiveness in refining machine learning models for the critical task of phishing detection.

An efficient room-temperature self-powered,broadband(300 nm–1100 nm)photodetector based on a CuO–TiO_(2)/TiO_(2)/p-Si(100)heterostructure is *** CuO–TiO_(2)nanocomposites were grown in a two-zone horizontal tube furnace on a 40 nm TiO_(2)thin film deposited on a p-type Si(100)*** CuO–TiO_(2)/TiO_(2)/p-Si(100)devices exhibited excellent rectification characteristics under dark and individual photoillumination *** devices showed remarkable photo-response under broadband(300–1100 nm)light illumination at zero bias voltage,indicating the achievement of highly sensitive self-powered photodetectors at visible and near-infrared light *** maximum response of the devices is observed at 300 nm for an illumination power of 10 *** response and recovery times were calculated as 86 ms and 78 ms,***,under a small bias,the devices showed a prompt binary response by altering the current from positive to negative under illumination *** main reason behind this binary response is the low turn-on voltage and photovoltaic characteristics of the *** illumination conditions,the generation of photocurrent is due to the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs within the built-in electric field at the CuO–TiO_(2)/TiO_(2)*** characteristics make the CuO–TiO_(2)/TiO_(2)broadband photodetectors suitable for applications that require high response speeds and self-sufficient functionality.

Development and validation of multicentre study on novel Artificial Intelligence-based Cardiovascular Risk Score(AICVD)

Objective Cardiovascular diseases(CVD)are one of the most prevalent diseases in India amounting for nearly 30%of total deaths.A dearth of research on CVD risk scores in Indian population,limited performance of conventional risk scores and inability to reproduce the initial accuracies in randomised clinical trials has led to this study on large-scale patient *** objective is to develop an Artificial Intelligence-based Risk Score(AICVD)to predict CVD event(eg,acute myocardial infarction/acute coronary syndrome)in the next 10 years and compare the model with the Framingham Heart Risk Score(FHRS)and *** Our study included 31599 participants aged 18–91 years from 2009 to 2018 in six Apollo Hospitals in India.A multistep risk factors selection process using Spearman correlation coefficient and propensity score matching yielded 21 risk factors.A deep learning hazards model was built on risk factors to predict event occurrence(classification)and time to event(hazards model)using multilayered neural ***,the model was validated with independent retrospective cohorts of participants from India and the Netherlands and compared with FHRS and *** The deep learning hazards model had a good performance(area under the curve(AUC)0.853).Validation and comparative results showed AUCs between 0.84 and 0.92 with better positive likelihood ratio(AICVD−6.16 to FHRS−2.24 and QRisk3−1.16)and accuracy(AICVD−80.15%to FHRS 59.71%and QRisk351.57%).In the Netherlands cohort,AICVD also outperformed the Framingham Heart Risk Model(AUC−0.737 vs 0.707).Conclusions This study concludes that the novel AI-based CVD Risk Score has a higher predictive performance for cardiac events than conventional risk scores in Indian population.

1 INTRODUCTION,This is the third Editorial/Commentary that one of us(***)has written relating to boron neutron capture therapy(BNCT)[1,2].For those readers who are unfamiliar with BNCT we would refer them to several recent comprehensive reviews[3–5].The second Editorial ended on a hopeful note that with the introduction of acceleratorbased neutron sources(ABNSs),BNCT would enter into the mainstream of radiation therapy[2].

Deep learning models for tuberculosis detection and infected region visualization in chest X-ray images
