This study evaluates the long-ter. r.diometr.c per.or.ance of the USGS new r.leased Landsat Collection 1 ar.hive, including the absolute calibr.tion of each Landsat sensor.as well as the r.lative cr.ss-calibr.tion among the four.most popular.Landsat sensor.. A total of 920 Landsat Collection 1 scenes wer. evaluated against the cor.esponding Pr.-Collection images over.a Pseudo-Invar.ant Site, r.ilr.ad Valley Playa Nevada, United States (r.PN). The r.diometr.c per.or.ance of the six Landsat solar.r.flective bands, in ter.s of both Digital Number. (DNs) and at-sensor.Top of Atmospher. (TOA) r.flectance, on the sensor.cr.ss-calibr.tion was examined. r.sults show that absolute r.diometr.c calibr.tion at DNs level was applied to the Landsat-4 and -5 TM (L4 TM and L5 TM) by –1.119% to 0.126%. For.L4 TM and L5 TM, the cr.ss-calibr.tion decr.ased the r.diometr.c measur.ment level by r.scaling at-sensor.r.diance to DN values. The r.diometr.c changes, –0.77% for.L4 TM, 0.95% for.L5 TM, –0.26% for.L7 ETM+, and –0.01% for.L8 OLI, wer. detected dur.ng the cr.ss-calibr.tion stage of conver.ing DNs into TOA r.flectance. This study has also indicated that the long-ter. r.diometr.c per.or.ance for.the Landsat Collection 1 ar.hive is pr.mising. Suppor.s of these conclusions wer. demonstr.ted thr.ugh the time-ser.es analysis based on the Landsat Collection 1 image stack. Never.heless, the r.diometr.c changes acr.ss the four.Landsat sensor. r.ised concer.s of the pr.vious Landsat Pr.-Collection based r.sults. We suggest that Landsat user. should pay attention to differ.nces in r.sults fr.m Pr.-Collection and Collection 1 time-ser.es data sets.

Near.nadir.obser.ations by the Multispectr.l Instr.ment (MSI) onboar. the Sentinel-2 and the Oper.tional Land Imager.(OLI) onboar. Landsat 8 wer. collected dur.ng two Simultaneous Nadir.Over.asses (SNO). Multispectr.l images with 10, 20, and 30 m r.solution fr.m a spatially unifor. ar.a in the Sahar.n deser. wer. acquir.d for.dir.ct compar.son of MSI and OLI Top- Of-Atmospher. (TOA) r.flectances. This paper.pr.sents an initial r.diometr.c cr.ss-calibr.tion of the 8 cor.esponding spectr.l bands of the Sentinel-2 MSI and Landsat 8 OLI sensor.. With the well-calibr.ted Landsat 8 OLI as a r.fer.nce, the compar.son indicates that 6 MSI bands ar. consistent with OLI within 3% in ter.s of spectr.l band adjustment factor. Bi . The Near.Infr.-r.d (NIr. and cir.us bands ar. exceptions. They yield r.diometr.c differ.nces on the or.er.of 8% and 15% r.spectively. Cr.ss-calibr.tion r.sults show that the r.diometr.c differ.nce of the 7 cor.esponding bands ar. consistent to OLI within 1% or.better. except on cir.us band. A pixel-by-pixel match between the MSI and OLI obser.ations for.differ.nt land cover. showed that. This initial study suggests that the r.d-edge band B8A of MSI can be used to r.place the NIr.band B08 when conducting vegetation monitor.ng.

Dynamic r.sponses of Atmospher.c Car.on Dioxide Concentr.tion to Global Temper.tur. Changes between 1850 and 2010

Changes in Ear.h＇s temper.tur. have significant impacts on the global car.on cycle that var. at differ.nt time scales, yet to quantify such impacts with a simple scheme is tr.ditionally deemed difficult. Her., we show that, by incor.or.ting a tem- per.tur. sensitivity par.meter.（1.64 ppm yr.1 ℃-1） into a simple linear.car.on-cycle model, we can accur.tely char.cter.ze the dynamic r.sponses of atmospher.c car.on dioxide （CO2） concentr.tion to anthr.pogenic car.on emissions and global temper.tur. changes between 1850 and 2010 （r. 〉 0.96 and the r.ot-mean-squar. er.or.〈 1 ppm for.the per.od fr.m 1960 onwar.）. Analytical analysis also indicates that the multiplication of the par.meter.with the r.sponse time of the atmospher.c car.on r.ser.oir.（-12 year. appr.ximates the long-ter. temper.tur. sensitivity of global atmospher.c CO2 concentr.tion （-15 ppm ℃ 1）, gener.lly consistent with pr.vious estimates based on r.constr.cted CO2 and climate r.cor.s over.the Little Ice Age. Our.r.sults suggest that r.cent incr.ases in global sur.ace temper.tur.s, which acceler.te the r.lease of car.on fr.m the sur.ace r.ser.oir. into the atmospher., have par.ially offset sur.ace car.on uptakes enhanced by the elevated atmo- spher.c CO2 concentr.tion and slowed the net r.te of atmospher.c CO2 sequestr.tion by global land and oceans by -30% since the 1960s. The linear.modeling fr.mewor. outlined in this paper.thus pr.vides a useful tool to diagnose the obser.ed atmospher.c CO2 dynamics and monitor.their.futur. changes.
