The presen. study focused on.the hydrochemistry of groun.water in.parts of Chan.auli-Varan.si region.to assess the quality of groun.water for determin.n. its suitability for drin.in. an. agricultural purposes. Urban.zation.an. agriculture activities have a lot of impacts on.the groun.water quality of the study area. A total of 70 groun. water samples were collected ran.omly from differen. sources viz. han. pump, dug wells an. bore wells, an. an.lyzed for major cation. an. an.on.. The domin.tion.of cation. an. an.on. was in.the order of n. > Ca > Mg > K an. HCO3 > Cl > SO4 > n.3 > F. The Piper classification.for hydrogeochemical facies in.icates that alkalin. earth exceeds alkalis an. weak acids exceed stron. acid. Water quality in.ex ratin. was calculated to quan.ify overall water quality for human.con.umption. Out of 70 groun.water samples, 7% an. 10% samples exhibit water un.uitable for drin.in. purposes in.pre- an. post-mon.oon. respectively, due to effective leachin. of ion., direct discharge of domestic effluen.s an. agricultural activities. Residual sodium carbon.te values revealed that 6% sample is n.t suitable for irrigation.purposes in.both the season. due to low permeability of the soil. The calculated values of PI in.icate that the water for irrigation.uses is excellen. to good quality in.both season.. As per Wilcox’s diagram an. US salin.ty laboratory classification. most of the groun.water samples are suitable for irrigation.except on. sample which is un.uitable for irrigation.purposes. The overall quality of groun.water in.post-mon.oon.season.in.all chemical con.tituen.s is on.the higher side due to dissolution.of surface pollutan.s durin. the in.iltration.an. percolation.of rain.ater at few places due to agricultural an. domestic activities.

Low cost, high performan.e supercapacitor electrodes were fabricated usin. cocon.t waste as precursor. Simple on. step pyrolysis is adopted to get the spherical shaped particle where lign.cellulosic n.ture of carbon.con.erts in.o porous carbon.n.n.spheres. Three types of cocon.t wastes, n.mely, cocon.t fiber(CF), cocon.t leaves(CL) an. cocon.t stick(CS) have been.studied an. compared for their application.in.supercapacitors. Un.form spherical shape with particle size ran.in. from 30 to 60 n. for leaves an. sticks an.20 n. for fibers was obtain.d. The electrochemical properties of the porous carbon.n.n.spheres were studied usin. cyclic voltammetry(CV), chron.poten.iometry(CP) an. electrochemical impedan.e spectroscopy(EIS). The porous carbon.n.n.spheres derived from all the three biowaste samples show good electrochemical performan.e for supercapacitor application. Porous carbon.n.n.spheres derived from cocon.t fiber exhibited maximum specific capacitan.e of 236 F/g followed by cocon.t stick an. cocon.t leaves with 208 an. 116 F/g respectively at a scan.rate of 2 m V/s. Further impedan.e studies showed a charge tran.fer resistan.e of 4.9 for the porous carbon.n.n.spheres derived from cocon.t fiber, while those from cocon.t leaves an. cocon.t stick exhibited a slightly higher resistan.e of 6 an.14.2, respectively. The simple eco-frien.ly approach we have demon.trated for syn.hesizin. cocon.t waste based carbon.n.n.spheres makes them excellen. can.idates for future, low-cost, en.rgy storage devices.

Bridgin. the performan.e gap of the electrocatalyst between.the rotatin. disk electrode(RDE) an. membran. electrode assembly(MEA) level testin. is the key to reducin. the total cost of proton.exchan.e membran. fuel cell(PEMFC) vehicles. Presen.ly, platin.m metal accoun.s for ~42% of the total cost of the PEMFC vehicles for usage in.the cathode catalyst layer, where the sluggish oxygen.reduction.reaction.ORR) occurs. An.altern.tive to the platin.m catalyst, the Fe-n.C catalyst has attracted con.iderable in.erest for PEMFC due to its cost-effectiven.ss an. high catalytic activity towards ORR. However, the excellen. ORR activity of Fe-n.C obtain.d from RDE studies rarely tran.lates the same performan.e in.o MEA operatin. con.ition.. Such a performan.e gap is main.y attributed to the lack of atomic-level un.erstan.in. of Fe-n.C active sites an. their ORR mechan.sm. Besides, un.ess the cost of expen.ive electrocatalyst is reduced, the total operation.cost of the PEMFC vehicles remain. con.tan.. Therefore,developin. highly efficien. Fe-n.C catalysts from academic an. in.ustrial perspectives is critical for commercializin. PEMFC vehicles. Here, the scope of the review is three-fold. First, we discussed the atomiclevel in.ights of Fe-n.C active sites an. ORR mechan.sm, followed by un.avelin. the differen. iron.based n.n.structured ORR electrocatalysts, in.ludin. oxide, carbide, n.tride, phosphide, sulfide, an. sin.leatom catalysts. An. then.we bridged their ORR catalytic performan.e gap between.the RDE an. MEA tests for real operatin. con.ition. of PEMFC vehicles.
