Background: The protective role of (poly)phenols against metabolic disorders has been extensively studied in adults but not in ***: To assess associations of dietary (poly)phenols and their subclasses with cardiometabolic health parameters in adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 944 individuals aged 11 to 14 years enrolled in the SI! Program for Secondary Schools trial (NCT03504059). (Poly)phenol intake was assessed using semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires and the Phenol-Explorer database. The measured cardiometabolic parameters were waist circumference (WC) age-sex z-score， blood pressure (BP) age-sex z-score， blood glucose (BG)， triglycerides (TG)， and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c). Multilevel mixed-effect linear regression models were applied to examine the association between (poly)phenol quintiles and cardiometabolic health ***: Compared to the lowest quintile， adolescents in the highest quintile of total (poly)phenol intake had lower WC z-scores (β=-0.09， 95%CI=-0.09;-0.08， P-for trend=0.002)， mean arterial pressure z-scores (β =-0.11， 95%CI=-0.12;-0.09， P-for trend=0.206)， and HDL-c (β=-1.52， 95%CI=-2.90;-0.14， P-for trend=0.108)， after multivariable adjustment. The WC z-scores (β=-0.11， 95%CI=-0.19;-0.03， P-for trend=0.013) and HDL-c (β=-2.16， 95%CI=-3.78;-0.53， P-for trend=0.046) were lower in the highest quintile of flavonoid intake compared to the lowest quintile. The highest quintile of phenolic acid intake was associated with a lower WC z-score (β=-0.14， 95%CI=-0.26;-0.02， P-for trend=0.011) and TG levels (β=-8.83， 95%CI=-12.37;-5.30， P-for trend <0.001)， and the highest quintile of stilbene intake with lower BG (β=-1.83， 95%CI= -3.103;-0.64， P-for trend <0.001) and TG (β=-3.22， 95%CI= -4.95;-1.49， P-for trend=0.034)， and with higher HDL-c (β=2.328， 95%CI= 1.40;3.17， P-for trend=0.466) compared to the lowest quintile. Evaluating the potential of(epi)genotype‑by‑low pass nanopore sequencing in dairy cattle:a study on direct genomic value and methylation analysis

Background Genotype-by-sequencing has been proposed as an alternative to SNP genotyping arrays in genomic selection to obtain a high density of markers along the *** requires a low sequencing depth to be cost effective,which may increase the error at the genotype *** generation nanopore sequencing technology offers low cost sequencing and the possibility to detect genome methylation,which provides added value to *** aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of genotype-by-low pass nanopore sequencing for estimating the direct genomic value in dairy cattle,and the possibility to obtain methylation marks *** Latest nanopore chemistry(LSK14 and Q20)achieved a modal base calling accuracy of 99.55%,whereas previous kit(LSK109)achieved slightly lower accuracy(99.1%).The direct genomic value accuracy from genotype-by-low pass sequencing ranged between 0.79 and 0.99,depending on the trait(milk,fat or protein yield),with a sequencing depth as low as 2×and using the latest chemistry(LSK114).Lower sequencing depth led to biased estimates,yet with high rank *** LSK109 and Q20 achieved lower accuracies(0.57-0.93).More than one million high reliable methylated sites were obtained,even at low sequencing depth,located mainly in distal intergenic(87%)and promoter(5%)*** This study showed that the latest nanopore technology in useful in a LowPass sequencing framework to estimate direct genomic values with high *** may provide advantages in populations with no available SNP chip,or when a large density of markers with a wide range of allele frequencies is *** addition,low pass sequencing provided nucleotide methylation status of>1 million nucleotides at≥10×,which is an added value for epigenetic studies.

Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection is a wellestablished risk factor for the development of gastric cancer(GC), one of the most common and deadliest neoplasms worldwide. H. pylori infection induces chronic inflammation in the gastric mucosa that, in the absence of treatment, may progress through a series of steps to GC. GC is only one of several clinical outcomes associated with this bacterial infection, which may be at least partially attributed to the high genetic variability of H. pylori. The biological mechanisms underlying how and under what circumstances H. pylori alters normal physiological processes remain enigmatic. A key aspect of carcinogenesis is the acquisition of traits that equip preneoplastic cells with the ability to invade. Accumulating evidence implicates H. pylori in the manipulation of cellular and molecular programs that are crucial for conferring cells with invasive capabilities. We present here an overview of the main findings about the involvement of H. pylori in the acquisition of cell invasive behavior, specifically focusing on the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, changes in cell polarity, and deregulation of molecules that control extracellular matrix remodeling.

The fishery of the sea cucumber Isostichopus fuscus was the most important one in the early 2000s in the Galapagos Marine *** overexploitation leads to its total closure from 2016 to *** the end of this period,if the co-management system of the Galapagos Marine Reserve decides to open this fishery,a total allowed catch must be established using the methodology of Wolff,Schuhbauer,and Castrejón(2012).The objective of this paper is to evaluate this methodology and improve the total allowed catch *** replicated Wolff et al.‘s methodology that uses the Cadima equation of Maximum Sustainable Yield(in Troadec,1977).We determined the age and growth parameters of *** to estimate total mortality and improved the calculation of the area of fishing and habitat of this species in Galapagos to estimate its *** found inconsistences in Wolff et al.‘s estimations of mortality and abundance and we recommend that the Maximum Sustainable Yield be used not as the total allowed catch,but as a limit reference point for this *** propose,instead,to use a dynamic abundance model that is capable of estimating a variety of reference points,including the fishing mortality for optimal fishing that is recommended to use to establish a total allowed *** addition,for the first time,the age and growth parameters of *** for Galapagos and the eastern-central region of the Pacific Ocean are determined(L∞=42.5 cm;K=0.21/year).

Combined Radiometric Analysis Related to Guava Leaf Phenology in Response to Soil Application of Paclobutrazol (PBZ)

The leaf-response to three-soil applied treatments of Paclobutrazol (PBZ;1000, 2000 and 0 ppm-control) was studied in a high-density plantation of eight guava (Psidium guajava) genotypes trees. All materials were prunned in vase form, with two to three major branches, yearly prunning for triggering the annual production cycle, and average height of 2.0 m. The dataset comprises fourth radiometric indices highly related to plant physiological activities. The dataset model took into account data collection dates, guava genotypes, and the positional effect of sun radiation on leaves based on their proximity to the canopy level and downward to the base of the woody seasonal-branch. Unexpectedly, there were no significant differences (NS) in PBZ treatments for genotypes, leaf position and radiometric indices. Analysis of the radiometric indices data revealed that anthocyanin (ARI index) and chlorophyll (PRI index) have a strong inverse relationship. Significant differences (P ≤ 0.05) were found between guava genotypes, and anthocyanin content;these results show that guava genotypes have varied responses, which could derive in their classification based-on drought resistance or low water requirements, however, it is important to note that additional research is required to determine the scope of these indications.
