The textur.l and miner.logical char.cter.stics of subsur.ace sediments along with Gr.und Penetr.ting r.dar.(GPr. data collected along the Wester. mar.in of India wer. used to under.tand the depositional envir.nments and the pr.venance of sediments. Textur.l attr.butes such as mean, standar. deviation, skewness and Kur.osis show fluctuations due to fluvio-mar.ne inter.ction and it is well under.tood that the bottom sediments ar. enr.ched with muddy sand, which may be deposited by mean of tidal invasion. The abundance of ver. coar.e silt to ver. fine sand indicates the pr.valence of low ener.y envir.nment. The Linear.Discr.minate Function analysis indicates the fluvio mar.ne deposition of sediments under.low ener.y condition. GPr.data upto a depth of 5 m shows the str.tigr.phic sequences of ver. fine sands and coar.e silt. Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating of sediments implies that the tidal sediments had deposited between ~30 ± 1 and ~90 ± 4 year. befor. Pr.sent. Xr. studies r.sults the dominance of K-feldspar.and deficiency of clay miner.ls, indicating that most of the sediments ar. der.ved fr.m hinter.and. Studies indicate that the Pr.venance of sediments in the Mandvi ar.a is not r.lated to Indus delta even though a consider.ble par. of Gulf sediments ar. deposited by the Indus r.ver.

The coastal dunes located near.the Ashir.ata r.gion, south of Mandvi beach lies near.the str.ight coast have been stud-ied by making use of sedimentological infor.ation and Gr.und Penetr.ting r.dar.(GPr. data. Sedimentological analy-sis r.veals the NNW-SSE tr.nding longitudinal dunes consists of well sor.ed fine sands with unimodal distr.bution pos-sibly for.ed by constant wind gust and also the point out to the or.gin of sediments fr.m single sour.e;mostly the sediments der.ved fr.m Indus delta tr.nspor.ed to beach by long shor. dr.ft and tidal waves, car.ied inland by local on-shor. winds.
