Background:Hepatectomy in patients with large tumor load may result in postoperative liver failure and associated complications due to excessive liver parenchyma *** two-stage hepatectomy(TSH)and associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy(AlPPS)technique are possible solutions to this *** liver metastases(CRlM)is the most frequent indication,and there is a need to assess outcomes for both techniques to improve surgical and long-term oncological outcomes in these ***:A single-center retrospective study was designed to compare TSH with AlPPS in patients with initially unresectable bilateral liver tumors between January 2005 and January *** was performed from January 2012 onwards as the technique of ***-term overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS)were evaluated as primary outcome in CRlM *** morbidity,mortality and liver growth in all patients were also ***:A total of 38 staged hepatectomies were performed:17 TSH and 21 *** resection rate was 76.5%(n=13)in the TSH group and 85.7%(n=18)in the AlPPS group(P=0.426).Overall major morbidity(Clavien-Dindo≥3 a)(stage 1+stage 2)was 41.2%(n=7)in TSH and 33.3%(n=7)in AlPPS patients(P=0.389),and perioperative 90-day mortalities were 11.8%(n=2)vs.19.0%(n=4)in each group,respectively(P=0.654).Intention-to-treat OS rates at 1 and 5 years in CRlM patients for TSH(n=15)were 80%and 33%,and for AlPPS(n=17)76%and 35%,*** rates at 1 and 5 years were 36%and 27%in the TSH group vs.33%and 27%in the AlPPS group,***:AlPPS is an effective alternative to TSH in bilateral affecting liver tumors,allowing higher resection rate,but patients must be carefully *** CRlM patients similar long-term OS and DFS can be achieved with both techniques.

The goal was to compare body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist to height ratio (WHtR), and relative fat mas (RFM), to identify the best predictor of overweight and obesity in university students from Mexico. This is a cross-sectional survey with 697 university students from northern and central Mexico (448 women, and 249 men aged 18 - 19 years). Data was collected during 2018. Overweight and obesity were calculated from those indices and for both, female and male students, the order of correlation between a pair of indices were WHtR vs. RFM > WHtR vs. WC > RFM vs. WC > WHtR vs. BMI > BMI vs. WC > RFM vs. BMI. It is concluded to use the WHtR and the RFM to better predict overweight and obesity in young Mexican university students.

Introduction: A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is caused by a forceful bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body, or by an object that pierces the skull and interrupts the normal function of the brain. Severe TBI is estimated at 73 cases per 100,000 people. The mortality of severe TBI can be reduced if a timely diagnosis and treatment of the injuries are made through prognostic factors. Objective: To determine the prognostic factors related to mortality in severe traumatic brain injury at the Hospital General de Zona No. 46. Material and Methods: Retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive study in beneficiaries admitted to the Hospital General de Zona (HGZ) No. 46 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS by its acronym in Spanish), with a diagnosis of severe TBI;the possible prognostic factors related to mortality of severe TBI were obtained from their records. Measures of central tendency and chi square were used for data analysis. Results: The study sample consisted of 60 subjects diagnosed with severe traumatic brain injury, of which 5 (8%) were women and 55 (92%) were men, and all 60 (100%) patients died. The average age of the sample was 26 with a standard deviation of 9 years. The variables that had a p value less than or equal to 0.05 were: Mydriasis, seizures, Hyperglycemia, Normoglycemia, Hypothermia and Hypotension. This means that these variables were associated with mortality. Conclusion: Statistical significance is demonstrated in prognostic factors of mortality in severe traumatic brain injury with p lycemia, normoglycemia, hypothermia and hypotension.

A review was carried out in Medline,lIlACS and the Cochrane *** database search strategy included the following terms: "hydatid cyst","liver","management","meta-analysis" and "randomized controlled trial".No language limits were used in the literature *** latest electronic search date was the 7th of January *** and exclusion criteria: all relevant studies on the assessment of therapeutic methods for hydatid cysts of the liver were considered for *** from editorials,letters to publishers,low quality review articles and studies done on animals were excluded from ***,well-structured abstracts from relevant articles were selected and accepted for *** forms were designed for data extraction; two investigators entered the data on patient demographics,methodology,recurrence of HC,mean cyst size and number of cysts per *** hundred and fourteen articles were identified using the previously described search *** applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria detailed above,57 articles were selected for final analysis: one meta-analysis,9 randomized clinical trials,5 non-randomized comparative prospective studies,7 non-comparative prospective studies,and 34 retrospective studies(12 comparative and 22 noncomparative).Our results indicate that antihelminthic treatment alone is not the ideal treatment for liver hydatid *** studies in the literature support the effectiveness of radical treatment compared with conservative *** surgery with omentoplasty is effective in preventing postoperative complications.A laparoscopic approach is safe in some *** drainage with albendazole therapy is a safe and effective alternative treatment for hydatid cysts of the *** surgery with preand post-operative administration of albendazole is the best treatment option for liver hydatid cysts due to low recurrence and complication rates.

Angiotensin II (Ang II) is the main mediator of the Renin-Angiotensin-System acting on AT1 and other AT receptors. It is regarded as a pleiotropic agent that induces many actions, including functioning as a growth factor, and as a contractile hormone, among others. The aim of this work was to examine the impact of Ang II on the expression and function of α1-adrenergic receptors (α1-ARs) in cultured rat aorta, and aorta-derived smooth muscle cells. Isolated Wistar rat aorta was incubated for 24 h in DMEM at 37˚C, then subjected to isometric tension and to the action of added norepinephrine, in concentration-response curves. Ang II was added (1 × 10−5 M), and in some experiments, 5-Methylurapidil (α1A-AR antagonist), AH11110A (α1B-AR antagonist), or BMY-7378 (α1D-AR antagonist), were used to identify the α1-AR involved in the response. Desensitization of the contractile response to norepinephrine was observed due to incubation time, and by the Ang II action. α1D-AR was protected from desensitization by BMY-7378;while RS-100329 and prazosin partially mitigated desensitization. In another set of experiments, isolated aorta-derived smooth muscle cells were exposed to Ang II and α1-ARs proteins were evaluated. α1D-AR increased at 30 and 60 min post Ang II exposure, the α1A-AR diminished from 1 to 4 h, while α1B-AR remained unchanged over 24 h of Ang II exposure. Ang II induced an increase of α1D-AR at short times, and BMY-7378 protected α1D-AR from desensitization.

In this letter, a refractive index measurement of a dielectric sample using highly focused radially polarized light is reported. Through imaging analysis of the optical field at the pupil plane of a high numerical aperture （NA） objective lens reflected by the sample under study, the Brewster angle is found. Employing a high NA objective lens allows the measurement of multiple angles of incidence from 0° to 64° in a single shot. The refractive index of the sample is estimated using the measured Brewster angle. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical images computed with the Fresnel theory, and a good agreement is obtained.

The widespread uptake of different machine perfusion(MP)strategies for liver transplant has been driven by an effort to minimize graft *** to the cholangiocytes during the liver donation,preservation,or early posttransplant period may result in stricturing of the biliary tree and inadequate biliary *** problem continues to trouble clinicians,and may have catastrophic consequences for the graft and *** injury,as a result of compromised hepatic artery flow,is a well-known cause of biliary strictures,sepsis,and graft ***,very similar lesions can appear with a patent hepatic artery and these are known as ischemic type biliary lesions(ITBl)that are attributed to microcirculatory dysfunction rather than main hepatic arterial *** the warm and cold ischemic period duration appear to influence the onset of *** of the commonly used MP techniques deliver oxygen to the graft cells,and therefore may minimize the cholangiocyte injury and subsequently reduce the incidence of *** clinical experience and published evidence grows for these modalities,the impact they have on ITBl rates is important to *** this review,the evidence for the three commonly used MP strategies(abdominal normothermic regional perfusion[A-NRP],hypothermic oxygenated perfusion[HOPE],and normothermic machine perfusion[NMP])for ITBl prevention has been critically *** with ITBl definitions used in trials,coupled with variations in techniques of MP,make interpretation ***,the evidence suggests that both HOPE and A-NRP prevent ITBl in donated after circulatory death grafts compared to cold *** evidence for ITBl prevention in donor after brain death grafts with any MP technique is weak.

Identification of SUMO Targets by a Novel Proteomic Approach in Plants

Post-translational modifications （PTMs） chemically and physically alter the properties of proteins, including their folding, subcellular localization, stability, activity, and consequently their function. In spite of their relevance, studies on PTMs in plants are still limited. Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier （SUMO） modification regulates several biological processes by affecting protein-protein interactions, or changing the subcellular Iocalizations of the target proteins. Here, we describe a novel proteomic approach to identify SUMO targets that combines 2-D liquid chromatography, immunodetection, and mass spectrometry （MS） analyses. We have applied this approach to identify nuclear SUMO targets in response to heat shock. Using a bacterial SUMOylation system, we validated that some of the targets identified here are, in fact, labeled with SUMO1. Interestingly, we found that GIGANTEA （GI）, a photoperiodic-pathway protein, is modified with SUMO in response to heat shock both in vitro and in vivo.
