Belowground Carbon and Nitrogen on a thinned and Un-thinned Seasonally Dry tropical Forest

the aim of this study was to quantify the dynamics of herbaceous biomass and fine root productivity, and their relationship to stocks of carbon and nitrogen, in the Vertisols of two adjacent watersheds of a seasonally dry tropical forest (SDtF) under two different types of ground cover. the two watersheds are located in the county of Iguatu in the State of Ceará, Brazil. the control watershed of 2.1 ha, has been under regeneration for 35 years (RC35), while the second watershed (1.1 ha) was subjected to thinning for a period of 5 years (tC5). the sampled variables were herbaceous shoot biomass, fine roots, gravimetric moisture, the isotope δ13C (‰), total soil carbon (tSC) and total nitrogen (tN) in the 0 - 20, 20 - 40 and 40 - 60 cm layers, between April 2013 and March 2014. to quantify herbaceous shoot biomass, samples were taken monthly. For tSC and tN, the campaigns were held every two months. the data underwent analysis of means and were compared by t-test (p tC5, there was an increase in the stocks of tSC and tN of 151 and 137% respectively in the 40 - 60 cm layer, in relation to RC35. the implementation of thinning in a SDFt is seen as a management alternative to be considered in sustainability programs in the semi-arid region, contributing to maximising the production of herbaceous forage for feeding large and small ruminants, and for bee pasture, in addition to increasing the stock of carbon in the soil of SDFt and reducing global warming.

titanium is a very important element for several industrial applications, being one of the ninth most abundant elements in the Earth’s crust (0.63% wt). In this work it will discuss the different mining and industrial activities involved in the production of titanium dioxide. the first step analyzed will treat about the beneficiation mining process of titanium mineral, and secondly, it will discuss the two main processes of the tiO2 manufacturing (sulphate and chloride routes). In addition, we will show different uses of the titanium dioxide pigment as filler in paper, plastics and rubber industries and as flux in glass manufacture, etc. Finally, we will show that the old wastes are currently called co-products since they were valorized, being commercialized by the Spanish industry of tiO2 production in different fields such as agriculture, civil engineering, or cement manufacturing.

Effect of Ambient temperature and Humidity Conditions on the Efficacy of Organic treatments against Varroa destructor in Different Climatic Zones of Chile

Varroasis is a disease caused by the mite Varroa destructor, which affects honeybees worldwide. It is estimated that it entered Chile in 1992, and it must be controlled through different types of treatments such as thymol, formic and oxalic acid in different formulations and presentations. this kind of organic products has shown a variable acaricidal capacity, since different factors affect their efficacy such as ambient temperature and humidity, product presentation and location inside the hive, etc.. In Chile, beekeeping takes place in four different climatic zones, in which ambient temperature and humidity as well as the duration of the apicultural season are different. therefore, the aim of this study was to determine how ambient temperature and humidity influence the efficacy of the organic treatments used in the beekeeping season. Different apiaries were installed in those climatic zones in three seasons between the years 2009 and 2012. All beehives received the same management in each apiary and it was evaluated the same organic treatments in different formulations and presentations. All the beehives were positive to Varroa, which was obtained using samples of adult bees and the soapy water test before and after each treatment. A thermo-hygrometer was installed in each apiary in order to monitor the ambient temperature （t°） and humidity （H°） conditions, which were registered daily for a period of 30 days since the beginning. It was obtained that the treatments＇ efficacy increases as the minimum t° and average t° rose, whereas on the contrary, the efficacy decreases when maximum H° was higher.

In the whole earth, people increased dramatically from generation to generation which had created a large scale of broken environment so that people are facing more various types of garbage. Most of garbages are not useful and as a matter of fact, they are used to be neglected. Furthermore, many efforts have been conducted to change it by many types of recycled methods. Here, a simple technique is proposed with and without using fires to transform the useless natural or man-made rubbish things to be a superfiber as well as thin film with multitasking applications in human daily life. Since most of earth environment is covered by oceans, here the authors show how the ocean related garbage such as the crab skins, broken coral reefs and beach stones were changed to be superfiber and a multitasking device prototype.

During the SARS-Cov-2 or COVID-19 clinical course pandemic of the coronavirus family, we observed symptoms of the respiratory tract, fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue. the most common symptoms were loss of smell and taste and, when aggravated, it could develop into pneumonia and even death. We selected 40 former COVID-19 patients, who answered a questionnaire with questions about the symptoms and complications after they were cured and which symptoms remained or appeared after the total isolation quarantine for a specific time. Among the answers, the most cited was about “forgetting”. Another observation noted was the number of cases in children, which surprised us, considering that, at the beginning of the pandemic, the danger was more related to the elderly population and those with comorbidities.

Effect of double-balloon enteroscopy on pancreas:An experimental porcine model

AIM： to evaluate the effect of double-balloon enteros- copy （DBE） on pancreas histology and levels of pancre- atic enzymes. MEtHODS： Conventional upper gastrointestinal endos- copy was performed on five control pigs. Oral DBE was performed with an EN-450t5 enteroscope on 20 pigs. two experimental groups （10 pigs each） were defined according to DBE duration： 90 rain for Group 1 and 140 min for Group 2. During oral insertion, the balloons were not inflated in the descending part of the duodenum to avoid the minor duodenal papilla. Serum amy- lase, lipase and C-reactive protein （CRP） levels were monitored before the procedure and repeated every 30 min until the exploration was finished, as well as 24 h and 7 d after. After the procedure and for a total of 7 d, the pigs were observed twice a day for signs of de- creased activity, irritability, vomiting or anorexia. Gross and microscopic examination of the pancreas was per- formed on day 7. RESULtS： All animals tolerated DBE without clini- cal manifestations of acute pancreatitis. Experimental groups had higher levels of enzymes than the control group at 24 h. throughout the exploration, the amylase levels increased significantly above the baseline 24 h after DBE, although the increase was not statistically significant and did not reach 20% of the baseline. An increase in lipase and CRP was observed at 24 h after the procedure, although by day 7, all enzymatic lev- els had returned to baseline. No differences between Groups 1 and 2 were found for any enzyme and sam- pling site during and after the procedure. Similarly, no correlation between insertion depth and enzyme levels was observed. Direct in situ and post-removal inspec- tion of the pancreas did not show any evidence of fluid collection, abscesses or hemorrhage. Histological examination of the pancreas from Groups 1 and 2 re- vealed the existence of focal areas （0.14-0.26 mm2） of ischemic necrosis in 47.4% of the animals. Background:Currently,there are no effective methods for assessing hepatic inflammation without resorting to histological examination of liver tissue obtained by biopsy.t2-weighted images(t2WI)are routinely obtained from liver magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)scan *** aimed to establish a radiomics signature based on t2WI(t2-RS)for assessment of hepatic inflammation in people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Methods:A total of 203 individuals with biopsy-confirmed NAFLD from two independent Chinese cohorts with liver MRI examination were enrolled in this *** hepatic inflammatory activity score(IAS)was calculated by the unweighted sum of the histologic scores for lobular inflammation and *** thousand and thirty-two radiomics features were extracted from the localized region of interest(ROI)in the right liver lobe of t2WI and,subsequently,selected by minimum redundancy maximum relevance and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)*** t2-RS was calculated by adding the selected features weighted by their ***:Eighteen radiomics features from Laplacian of Gaussian,wavelet,and original images were selected for establishing *** t2-RS value differed significantly between groups with increasing grades of hepatic inflammation(Pthe t2-RS yielded an area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve(AUROC)of 0.80[95%confidence interval(CI):0.71-0.89]for predicting hepatic inflammation in the training cohort with excellent *** AUROCs of t2-RS in the internal cohort and external validation cohorts were 0.77(0.61-0.93)and 0.75(0.63-0.84),***:the t2-RS derived from radiomics analysis of t2WI shows promising utility for predicting hepatic inflammation in individuals with NAFLD.

Bond Strength of Brackets Bonded with Chemically and Light Activated Materials after thermal Cycling

the aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to tooth enamel with different polymer composites after simulated clinical aging, and analyze the enamel/ bond system fracture interface. 80 human premolars, were randomly divided into five groups (n = 16). G1: CO (Concise Ortodontica—3M ESPE), G2: SB (SuperBond—Ortho Source), G3: FMO (Fill Magic Ortodontico—Vigodent), G4: tXt (transbond Xt—3M ESPE) and G5: tP (transbond Plus Self Etching Primer + transbond Plus Color Change—3M ESPE). In all groups, the metal orthodontic bracket was bonded to the tooth enamel surface. the specimens were submitted to 3000 thermal cycling baths for 30 s, at temperatures of 5°C, 37°C and 55°C (±1°C). Afterwards they were subjected to shear testing and the results were analyzed by the Student’s-t test (p ted the highest bond strength value, followed by G4 > G5 > G2 > G3. In all groups the majority of the fractures at the interface of the specimens were cohesive, except in G3, which presented the largest number of adhesive fractures. After clinical aging, the chemically activated material (CO) showed higher bond strength than the light activated types (FMO, tXt and tP). the self-etching adhesive system (tP) showed similar bond strength to that of conventional systems (FMO and tXt).
