AIm： To determine whether the telomerase activity is related to the microsatellite instability （mSI） genetic pathway and whether it means a difference in the survival.mETHODS： The population consisted of 97 colorectal cancer patients. mSI determination was performed in accordance with the NCI criteria using PCR and Genescan. Telomerase activity was determined by the TRAP-assay, an ELISA procedure based on the amplification of telomeric repeat sequences.RESULTS： 6.2% showed high mSI （mSI-H）, 10.3% showed low mSI （mSI-L） and 83.5% did not show this alteration （mSS）. Positive telomerase activity was detected in 92.8% of the patients. 83.3% of mSI-H tumors showed positive telomerase against 93.8% of mSS tumors. In the overall survival analysis the absence of telomerase activity conferred a better prognosis.CONCLUSION： Previous works have shown that tumors which develop via the mSI pathway present a better prognosis. No link between telomerase activity and mSl status is observed, although sample sizes are small. Patients with telomerase negative tumors had better overall survival than patients with telomerase positive tumors.

In this work the possibility of identifying two important aspects in the process of adopting soil parameters for calculating stability analysis models in tailing dams is discussed. The use of commercial computer programs for stability calculations allows obtaining numerically exact results. Its representativeness, however, will be linked to the correct definition of the phreatic regime and to the prediction of volumetric soil behavior during shearing (contractile vs. dilating materials). The theoretical principles for the selection of soils parameters for different failure models are briefly presented. Also, how the incorrect assumptions regarding material behavior can significantly affect the estimation of tailing dams’ stability. The results of CPTu tests for the diagnosis of the phreatic and mechanical condition of the materials are discussed and two examples are presented to remark on the care that should be taken to avoid incorrect soils parameters adoption.

In this paper we develop and study, as the second part of one more general development, the energy transmutation equation for the material singularity, previously obtained through the symmetrisation of a wave packet, that is, we develop the correlation between the terms of this equation, which accounts for the formation of matter from a previous vibrational state, and the different possible energy species. These energetic species are ascribed, in a simplified form, to the equation E¯ω=E¯k+E¯f, which allows us, through its associated phase factor, to gain an insight into the wave character of the kinetic energy and thus to attain the basis of the matter-wave, and all sorts of related phenomenologies, including that concerning quantum entanglement. The formation of the matter was previously identified as an energetic process, analogous to the kinetic one, in which finally the inertial mass is consolidated as a mass in a different phase, now, in addition, the mass of the material singularity is identified as a volumetric density of waves of toroidal geometry created in the process of singularisation or energy transfer between species, which makes it possible to establish the real relation or correspondence between the corpuscular and photonic energy equation (E=mc2=hν), i.e. to explain through m the intimate sense of the first equivalence, which explains what νis in the second one.

The current practice of geotechnical engineering commonly uses a combination of theoretical and empirical correlations to estimate the soil undrained shear strength in clays from the piezocone test. In order to complement the use of such correlations, the application of a method to estimate the soil undrained shear strength, using measures of the excess pore pressure in dissipation tests of piezocone is presented. In cohesive soils, excess pore pressure and undrained shear strength are dependent on the same variables (stress state, stress history, soil stiffness), which allows them to be related by the theoretical cavity expansion-critical state framework. This paper mentions the mathematical formulation that supports the theoretical framework used, its relationship with the Nkt and NΔu factors and their estimation in a case studied. The results obtained are consistent within the dispersion found in the international literature and encourage the use of the method in engineering practice.

A review was carried out in medline,LILACS and the Cochrane *** database search strategy included the following terms: "hydatid cyst","liver","management","meta-analysis" and "randomized controlled trial".No language limits were used in the literature *** latest electronic search date was the 7th of January *** and exclusion criteria: all relevant studies on the assessment of therapeutic methods for hydatid cysts of the liver were considered for *** from editorials,letters to publishers,low quality review articles and studies done on animals were excluded from ***,well-structured abstracts from relevant articles were selected and accepted for *** forms were designed for data extraction; two investigators entered the data on patient demographics,methodology,recurrence of HC,mean cyst size and number of cysts per *** hundred and fourteen articles were identified using the previously described search *** applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria detailed above,57 articles were selected for final analysis: one meta-analysis,9 randomized clinical trials,5 non-randomized comparative prospective studies,7 non-comparative prospective studies,and 34 retrospective studies(12 comparative and 22 noncomparative).Our results indicate that antihelminthic treatment alone is not the ideal treatment for liver hydatid *** studies in the literature support the effectiveness of radical treatment compared with conservative *** surgery with omentoplasty is effective in preventing postoperative complications.A laparoscopic approach is safe in some *** drainage with albendazole therapy is a safe and effective alternative treatment for hydatid cysts of the *** surgery with preand post-operative administration of albendazole is the best treatment option for liver hydatid cysts due to low recurrence and complication rates.
