New network and synchronization approaches in focal epilepsy research and treatment

Traditional approaches to focal epileptic surg.ry rely in the identification and resection of the epileptic zone. However, a sig.ificant minority of epileptic patients continue to experience seizures after surg.ry, a fact that shows how difficult it is to define this concept. In this work we will review some of the recent advances in the use of complex network theory and synchronization analysis in the study of neurophysiolog.cal epileptic records which shed new lig.t on frag.ented understanding.of the epilepsy dynamic we have today. More important would be the potential treatments which could be implemented from the new information and chang. of perspective g.thered by using.this methodolog., particularly the substitution of the traditional resective surg.ry in temporal lobe epilepsy patients.

AIM:To examine whether the administration of atorvastatin and rosuvastatin would prevent experimentallyinduced hepatic cirrhosis in ***:Liver cirrhosis was induced by injections of thioacetamide(TAA).Rats were treated concurrently with TAA alone or TAA and either atorvastatin(1,10 and 20 mg.kg. or rosuvastatin(1,2.5,5,10 and 20 mg.kg. g.ven daily by nasog.stric ***:Liver fibrosis and hepatic hydroxyproline content,in the TAA-treated g.oup was sig.ificantly hig.er than those of the controls [11.5 ± 3.2 vs 2.6 ± 0.6 mg.g.protein(P = 0.02)].There were no differences in serum aminotransferase levels in the TAA controls compared to all the g.oups treated concomitantly by *** statins used in our study did not prevent liver fibrosis or reduce portal hypertension,and had no effect on hepatic oxidative ***,the hepatic level of malondialdehyde was not lower in those g.oups treated by TAA + statins compared to TAA *** vitro studies,using.the BrdU method have shown that atorvastatin had no effect of hepatic stellate cells ***,statin treatment was not associated with worsening.of liver damag.,portal hypertension or survival ***:Atorvastatin or rosuvastatin did not inhibit TAA-induced liver cirrhosis or oxidative stress in *** statins may have therapeutic applications in hepatic fibrosis due to other etiolog.es deserve further investig.tion.

Population ag.ng.places a g.owing.stress on society’s resources. There is a need for Assisted Living.(AL) technolog.es that allow the elderly to live independently as long.as possible. The AndroidCare open source project aims to explore what functionality can be provided in a low cost AL solution where no professional health org.nization is involved in the deployment or maintenance of the solution, nor in supervising.the pa-tient;all these tasks are carried out by a relative of the elder. Therefore, in the system’s desig. simplicity of use has prevailed over having.a lot of features. It is based on stan-dard off-the-shell commodity hardware (a smartphone) and it provides 1) assistance to the elder in complying.with the treatment of chronic diseases;2) monitors and alerts of the occurrence of risk situations such as falls;and 3) simplifies the supervision of the elder’s therapy and behavior by the careg.ver.

Late Middle Triassic to early Late Triassic insects from Arg.ntina have been previously described from the Bermejo and Cuyana Basins where they have been recovered from the Ischichuca-Los Rastros and Potrerillos-Cacheuta Formations, respectively. The insect fauna discussed herein was collected during.field studies in 1986/1987 from the Llantenes section （Norian to Rhaetian？ Late Triassic）, which is situated in the Malarg.ie Basin in southern Mendoza province. The insect remains were found in the upper part of the Llantenes section （Llantenes Formation）, which is built up of two coarsening.upwards cycles reflecting.a deltaic prog.adation of a fluvial into a lacustrine environment （lower part）, succeeded by repeated prog.adatious into a floodplaindominated environment （upper part; with finds of insects, conchostracans, fish remains, plant frag.ents, and drifted log.）. The new finds represent the young.st Triassic insect records described from Arg.ntina and even from South America in its entirety. There is only one contemporaneous fossil assemblag. in g.ndwana： in the Ciarence/Moreton Basin （Aberdare Cong.omerate; Late Norian） in Australia. The new Triassic insects include an impression of an isolated Mecopterida-like wing.（Mendozachorista volkheimeri g.n. et sp. nov.; Mendozachoristidae fam. nov.）, coleopteran elytra of the Permosynidae （Ademosyne rosenfeldi sp. nov. and Ademosyne Uantenesensis sp. nov.） and other isolated body frag.ents. This new Late Triassic entomofauna from Arg.ntina is of considerable importance in the reconstruction of the biotic recovery of continental environments in g.ndwana after the catastrophic mass extinction at the P/T boundary.
