Risk Factors of Reoperation and Outcome of Patients Operated for Chronic Subdural Hematoma in a Teaching Hospital in Rabat

Background: chronic subdural hematoma is a common pathology, especially in the elderly. Although it has a good prognosis, it poses the problem of recurrence after surgical evacuation. Objective: To analyze the risk factors of reoperation in patients surgically treated for chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) and evaluate the outcome of patients who benefited from a reoperation. Materials and Methods: A retrospective review was conducted in a single University Hospital Center in Rabat (Morocco) on 49 patients operated on from January 2020 to June 2021 for cSDH. Possible risk factors described in the literature were analyzed and the outcome of post-operative course was evaluated. Statistical significance was defined by p-value Results: 49 patients underwent surgical evacuation of cSDH. The sex ratio of male/female was 3.08. The mean age was 70.6 years. Concerning the medical history, 8.2% were diabetics, 10.2% had heart disease, 18.4% had hypertension, 16.3% associated of comorbidities, 2% had pulmonary embolism, and 2% had neoplasm. 18.4% were on anticoagulation therapy, no patients were on new oral anticoagulants. The clinical findings upon admission were motor deficit at 57.1%, signs of intracranial hypertension at 20.4%, altered consciousness at 16.9% and impaired behavior at 6.1%. 28.6% of patients had a past history of head trauma. The pre-operative CT scan showed unilateral cSDH at 81.6%, midline shifts at 77.6%, and false membranes at 34.7%. Blood appeared chronic at 40.8%, subacute at 24.5%, and mixed densities at 34.7%. The post-operative course was uneventful in 73.5%. According to Ibanez grading 8 patients had mild complications (grade I) and 5 moderate complications (grade II) after the first surgery. We recorded 10.2% of patients who needed a second surgery because of the deterioration of neurologic status or motor deficit associated with an abnormal CT scan. On the insulating side of the metal-insulator transition (MIT), the study of the effect of low Temperatures T on the electrical transport in amorphous silicon-nickel alloys a-Si1-yNiy:H exhibits that the electrical conductivity follows, at the beginning, the Efros-Shklovskii Variable Range Hopping regime (ES VRH) with T-1/2. This behaviour showed that long range electron-electron interaction reduces the Density Of State of carriers (DOS) at the Fermi level and creates the Coulomb gap (CG). For T higher than a critical value of temperature TC, we obtained the Mott Variable Range Hopping regime with T-1/4, indicating that the DOS becomes almost constant in the vicinity of the Fermi level. The critical temperature TC decreases with nickel content in the alloys.

Eight new compounds containing in their structures substituted quinoline and pyrazole entity were synthesized in good to excellent yield by cyclocondensation reaction of chalcones and hydrazine hydrate. This reaction was conducted in formic acid in presence of BF3·Et2O or in acetic acid. These approaches were extended to bis-chalcones, which delivered functionalized bispyrazolines. The structures of the prepared compounds were confirmed by IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and mass spectral analysis.

Effects of Transportation Stress during the Hot-Dry Season on Some Haematological and Physiological Parameters in Moroccan Dromedary Camels （Camelus dromedarius）

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of road transportation under heat conditions on some haematological [Ht （haematocrit）, blood cells count and EOF （erythrocytes osmotic fragility）] and physiological [Tr （rectal temperature）, HR （heart） and RR （respiratory rates）, and circulating levels of Cor （cortisol）, Glu （glucose） and minerals] parameters in Moroccan dromedary camels. The animals were subjected to road transportation stressor for 2 h by truck during the hot-dry season. Blood samples were collected before loading and transport, and at the end of transport. Transportation induced a significant increase （P 〈 0.05） of erythrocytes count, Ht, EOF, Tr, HR and RR by comparison to values observed before transportation. The same stress conditions induced a significant increase （P 〈 0.05） of plasma Cor （ng/mL） and blood Glu （mM）（220 ± 30 vs. 137 ± 20, 9.7 ± 1.2 vs. 6.4 ± 1. 1 respectively） and a significant decrease （P 〈 0.05） of plasma magnesium （mM）（0.5 ± 0.1 vs. 0.9 ± 0.1） comparatively to pre-transportation values. These results indicate that road transportation associated to heat may be considered as a potent stressor which is able to induce several cellular alterations in camels. Further studies of an eventual protective role of vitamin C against haemolysis induced by transportation stress in camel are needed.

Total Hip Replacement in Young Adults Less Than Fifty Year Old: Our Experience

Background: We report a retrospective study of 47 total prosthesis of hip put in place among the young adult of less than fifty years in the service of Traumatology and Orthopedics at the Wing IV of the CHU Ibn Rochd of Casablanca, over a period from January 2008 to March 2014, with an average rate of decline of 42 months. Results: The deliberate group of 43 patients (47 hips including 4 bilateral) consisted of 26 women, either 60, 47% and 17 men, either 39, 53%. The average age of our patients was 36 years. In our series, the predominant etiology has been conducted for the indication of the hip replacement was the aseptic osteonecrosis of the femoral head which has represented 31.91%. With regards to the choice of implants, 85% of PTH were non-cemented, the cemented PTH has been used in 15% of cases. The Friction Torque metal/polyethylene was used in all cases. The functional outcome was appreciated by the rating of Merle of Aubigne before and after arthroplasty. The average rate of decline of 42 months, and the results were generally satisfactory. They were excellent in 27.78% of cases, very good in 19.44% of cases and good in 44.44% of cases. The results on the Pain were remarkable: the rating of the pain going 2.8 in pre-operative at 5.6 at the latest decline. The results on the walking and mobility were also good. It was noted as a complication: 4 cases of prosthetic dislocation, 1 case of aseptic descellement bipolar, 2 cases of early sepsis on hardware, 3 cases of paralysis of the sciatic external popliteal and 4 cases of periprothetiques ossification. In total, 5 total prosthesis of hip were occasions. The young age does not seem to be an obstacle to the prosthetic surgery. Conclusion: However, a major question remains concerning the distant future of these prostheses in young active subjects, because they will be submitted for many years in a job which can cause the descellement of prosthetic parts.

Introduction: According to the literature consulted to date, there is epidemiological heterogeneity of Covid-19 between countries depending on their vaccination policy, in particular BCG vaccination. These findings have led to several hypotheses, including the protective role of immunity induced by the BCG tuberculosis vaccine against Covid-19 infection. The immunity induced by the BCG vaccine significantly increases the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, in particular IL-1B, which has been shown to play an essential role in antiviral immunity. This cross-immunity, although not specific, if highlighted, is a real providence that must be taken advantage of in the face of this pandemic. The main objective of this study is to rule out or confirm that anti-tuberculosis immunity protects against SARS-COV-2 in our context. Material and Methods: Two groups will be compared: cases infected with the virus and controls who have never been infected with the virus. Both case and control groups will undergo a tuberculin skin test: the intra dermal tuberculin reaction (IDR). Results: We found that our control group had a high IDR immunity value, with an IDR tuberculin positive percentage of 67.2%. This suggests that immunity to IDR is a protective factor against coronavirus disease. Conclusion: The hypothesis of nonspecific anti-tuberculosis protection deserves further verification studies;it would have large positive repercussions for developing countries.

Evaluation of the Microbiological Quality of Different Moroccan Drinking Water in the Beni Mellal Region

Drinking water is water that does not contain pathogens or chemicals at levels that may be harmful to health. Beni Mellal region, one of the major rich areas in ground and surface water in Morocco (the rivers like Oum Errabia, Darna, ...;Bin el-Ouidane and martyr Ahmed el Hansali dams and sources like Ain Asserdoune, …) is located in the North-Centre of Morocco. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the microbiological quality of different drinking waters originated from sources, faucets, fountains and wells in the Beni Mellal city and its agricultural surrounding areas. For this, hygienic quality indicator parameters of water quality were determined by assessing the analysis of Total Coliforms Count, Fecal Coliforms Count, streptococcus D and revivable germs while germs such as Anaerobic Sulphite-reducing Bacteria, S. aureus and Salmonella sp, were carried out according to national and international standards. The analysis of the microbiological results found for all the different samples waters investigated in this study revealed that the waters originated from fountains, faucets and sources were proper for main consumption at microbiological point of view while the wells waters were improper for consumption according to norms. Finally, it appears, from the results obtained, that the potential risk of infection of water consumers especially (groundwater) calls for prompt intervention in order to alleviate the potential health impact of water-borne diseases in the community. From this, a proper sanitary survey and implementation of water and sanitation projects in the community is recommended.

The eco-responsible lead-free piezoelectric ceramics have been intensively searched for more than adecade, however, the final goal to replace toxic ceramics like lead zirconate titanate (PZT) with lead-freecompounds, having comparable or even better performance has not yet been reached. In this road, thelead-free ceramics Ba_(0.85)Ca_(0.15)Zr_(0.1)Ti_(0.9)O_(3) (BCZT), possessing excellent dielectric, ferroelectric, andpiezoelectric properties are regarded as serious candidates for the PZT replacement. Besides, nano-structuring BCZT is of paramount importance to enhance these functionalities even more. Here, BCZTmultipodes are designed by template-growth hydrothermal synthesis using hydrogen zirconate titanatenanowires. We demonstrate that the fabricated BCZT multipodes exhibit high dielectric permittivity of5300 with a temperature stability coefficient of ±5.9% between 20 and 140℃. A significant recoveredenergy density of 315.0 mJ/cm^(3) with high thermal stability and high energy storage efficiency of 87.4%,and enhanced large-signal piezoelectric coefficient d^(*)_(33) (310 pm/V) are found. Compared to the tradi-tional BCZT ceramics reported in the literature, relying on high-temperature processing, our sampleexhibits boosted energy storage parameters at a much lower temperature. These outcomes may offer anew strategy to tailor eco-responsible relaxor ferroelectrics toward superior energy storage performancefor ceramic capacitor applications.

This paper discusses the elaboration of adsorbents from oil *** experimental designs a response surface methodology(RSM),which has been applied to optimize the significant preparation factors,such as tempera-ture,time,and the activating agent *** results obtained from central composite design(CCD)revealed that the interaction between the factors was significant for the maximum quantity of adsorption(response).Planned results have shown that a maximum quantity of adsorption for methylene blue is 65 mg/g,which could be achieved with a temperature of 275℃over 2 h and a percentage of the activating agent of 45%.The predicted values agreed with the experimental finding,with a determination coefficient(R2)of *** model has been validated by experi-ments after conditions *** new material(RHO)was characterized by cation exchange capacity,zero charge pH,surface functions,X-ray fluorescence,specific surface area,and electron microscopy *** adsorption was determined using Langmuir,Freundlich and Temkin,which were used to describe the adsorption *** adsorption capacity of the material was about 263 mg/g,and the kinetic studies showed rapid adsorption.
