Variation of Density and Biomass of the Ichthyofauna Associated to Soft Bottoms of a Western Coastal lagoon of B.C.S., Mexico

An analysis of the variation of the density and biomass of the fish communities of the lagoon of la Paz, Mexico was carried out from November 2016 to September 2017. A total of 2763 organisms were collected with a total biomass of 211,422.93 g in an area of 5022 m2, a density and biomass of 0.550 lnd/m2 and 44.091 g/m2. The site with the largest biomass was recorded in Zacatecas (11.179 g/m2) located north of the lagoon, while Grand Plaza recorded the lowest biomass (2.732 g/m2). Regarding the density, the maximum value was recorded in the site Yate Hundido, located northwest of the lagoon (0.129 lnd/m2) and the lowest was las Palmas (0.036 lnd/m2) located north of the lagoon. The most abundant species was Diapterus peruvianus with 683 individuals and a biomass of 37,507.57 g. The physicochemical variables showed two seasons with significant change where we can observe higher temperatures in the summer (average of 27.45°C) and minimum in winter (average of 22.49°C). The Shannon-Weaver diversity index showed a difference (p = 0.050) between months, with the highest value recorded in April (H' = 2.133 bits/ind) and the lowest in June (H'le="white-space:normal;">le="font-family:;" "=""> = 1.041 bits/ind). The biomass and density values recorded in the lagoon were found to be associated with the spatio-temporal variation of temperature of the lagoon, as well as the resident and transitory species located in the area of study. Precision agriculture, and more specifically Site-Specific Crop Management(SSCM), has been implemented in some form across nearly all agricultural production systems over the past 25 years. Adoption has been greatest in developed agricultural countries. In this review article, the current situation of SSCM adoption and application is investigated from the perspective of a developed(UK) and developing(China) agricultural economy. The current state-of-the art is reviewed with an emphasis on developments in position system technology and satellite-based remote sensing. This is augmented with observations on the differences between the use of SSCM technologies and methodologies in the UK and China and discussion of the opportunities for(and limitations to)increasing SSCM adoption in developing agricultural economies. A particular emphasis is given to the role of socio-demographic factors and the application of responsible research and innovation(RRI) in translating agritechnologies into China and other developing agricultural economies. Several key research and development areas are identified that need to be addressed to facilitate the delivery of SSCM as a holistic service into areas with low precision agriculture(PA) adoption. This has implications for developed as well as developing agricultural economies.

Emphysematous cholecystitis is a rare subtype of acute cholecystitis characterized by the presence of gas in the gallbladder wall secondary to ischemia. Typically, this is a result of cystic artery vascular compromise with a concomitant infection from gas-forming organisms such as Clostridium species, Klebsiella species, or Escherichia coli. The mortality rate of acute emphysematous cholecystitis is 15% - 20% compared with 1.4% in uncomplicated acute cholecystitis. The subsequent development of a cholecystocutaneous fistula, an abnormal connection between the gallbladder and the skin, is also a rare complication of gallbladder disease. We describe a case of a 77-year-old male who presented with right flank necrotizing fasciitis which developed from a cholecystocutaneous fistula secondary to emphysematous cholecystitis. Once the necrotic tissues were adequately debrided, the large open wound was treated with negative pressure wound therapy with instillation (NPWT-i) utilizing hypochlorous acid (HOCl). The wound was closed with a split-thickness skin graft.

Heavy Metal Contamination of Well Water in the Kipushi Mining Town （Democratic Republic of Congo）

Concentrations of eleven heavy metals （AI, Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb and Zn） and pH determination in water from nine spade-sunk wells of 2-15 meter depth, five drilled wells of 30-72 meter depth, and two water supply faucets in the Kipushi mining town, south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were investigated from February to July 2011. The results were compared with the World Health Organization （WHO） drinking water pH and heavy metal guidelines. Mean concentrations of Pb in water from four spade-sunk wells and three drilled wells, those of A1 and Fe in water from four and two spade-sunk wells, and those of Cd in water from four drilled wells were higher than the WHO drinking water maximum permissible contaminant limits of 0.01 mg/l, 0.2 mg/l, 0.3 mg/l and 0.003 mg/l respectively, probably due to the mining activities carried out in Kipushi for about 90 years. The pH mean values of water from five spade-sunk wells and three drilled wells were lower than the WHO drinking water pH optimum of 6.5-9.5, suggesting that the water from those eight wells was not conform to the chemical quality of water for human consumption.

Metal halide perovskite light-emitting diodes(lEDs)have achieved great progress in recent ***,bright and spectrally stable blue perovskite lED remains a significant ***-dimensional mixed-halide perovskites have potential to achieve high brightness electroluminescence,but their emission spectra are unstable as a result of halide phase ***,we reveal that there is already heterogeneous distribution of halides in the as-deposited perovskite films,which can trace back to the nonuniform mixture of halides in the *** simply introducing cationic surfactants to improve the homogeneity of the halides in the precursor solution,we can overcome the phase segregation issue and obtain spectrally stable single-phase blueemitting *** demonstrate efficient blue perovskite lEDs with high brightness,e.g.,luminous efficacy of 4.7,2.9,and 0.4 lmW^(-1) and luminance of over 37,000,9,300,and 1,300 cdm^(-2) for sky blue,blue,and deep blue with Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage(CIE)coordinates of(0.068,0.268),(0.091,0.165),and(0.129,0.061),respectively,suggesting real promise of perovskites for lED applications.

Bipolar molecules incorporating donor and acceptor components within a single molecule provide new device opportunities due to their intrinsic behavior as nanoscale p-n heterojunctions. The suitability of such molecules for photovoltaic applications depends on many factors, including the energy and spatial distribution of molecular orbitals, the influence of environment, how the molecules are assembled, and optical excitation response. Here we report a direct characterization of the local electronic structure of the bipolar molecule bithiophene naphthalene diimide （BND）. Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we were able to study the internal electronic structure of individual BND molecules on a thin insulating layer of NaCl. We find that BND molecules exhibit type II heterojunction behavior with orbital energy shifts occurring over subnanometer intramolecular interface distances. At higher coverage on metal substrates BND molecules with different bridge structures self-assemble into 1-d molecular chains. Our experimental results can be understood through the use of first-principle theoretical modeling, and provide new insights into how these molecular systems might be optimized.

Hyoscyamine, anisodamine and scopolamine are tropane alkaloids present in some Solanaceae species and used in modern medicine. l-Hyoscyamine is hydroxylated to 6β-hydroxyhyoscyamine (anisodamine) and then epoxidated to scopolamine by the dual action of hyoscyamine 6β-hydroxylase (H6H), a 2-oxoglutarate dependent dioxygenase. A natural mutation in the Gly-220 residue to Cys was previously shown to be associated with the loss of function of H6H in Mandragora officinarum, preventing the accumulation of anisodamine and scopolamine in these plants. We show here that a deliberate Gly220Cys mutation in the Datura innoxia DiH6H protein caused a loss of both its enzymatic abilities and rendered it unable to hydroxylate L-hyoscyamine into anisodamine and to epoxidate anisodamine into scopolamine. By using protein modeling based on an available crystal structure of H6H from Datura metel, we show how the Cys220 residue causes a steric interference in the active site cavity impairing the interaction of both substrates, hyoscyamine and anisodamine with the active site of the protein.le="font-family:Verdana;"> We also address the enantiomeric preference of DiH6H based on molecular modeling.

Several members of the Juglandaceae family produce juglone,a specialized 1,4-naphthoquinone(1,4-NQ)natural product that is responsible for the notorious allelopathic effects of black walnut(Juglans nigra).Despite its documented ecological roles and potential for being developed as a novel natural product-based herbicide,none of the genes involved in synthesizing juglone have been *** on classical labeling studies,we hypothesized that biosynthesis of juglone’s naphthalenoid moiety is shared with biochemical steps of the phylloquinone ***,using comparative transcriptomics in combination with targeted metabolic profiling of 1,4-NQs in various black walnut organs,we provide evidence that phylloquinone pathway genes involved in 1,4-dihydroxynaphthoic acid(DHNA)formation are expressed in roots for synthesis of a compound other than *** experiments using axenic black walnut root cultures revealed that stable isotopically labeled l-glutamate incorporates into juglone resulting in the same mass shift as that expected for labeling of the quinone ring in *** together,these results indicate that in planta,an intermediate from the phylloquinone pathway provides the naphthalenoid moiety of ***,this work shows that juglone can be de novo synthesized in roots without the contribution of immediate precursors translocated from aerial *** present study illuminates all genes involved in synthesizing the juglone naphthoquinone ring and provides RNA-sequencing datasets that can be used with functional screening studies to elucidate the remaining juglone pathway *** of the generated knowledge is expected to inform future metabolic engineering strategies for harnessing juglone as a novel natural product-based herbicide.
