Accurate and reproducible analysis of murine small and large intestinal tissue is key for preclinical models involving intestinal ***,there is no easily ac-cessible,standardized method that allows researchers of different skill levels to con-sistently dissect intestines in a time-efficient ***,we describe the design and use of the 3D-printed“mouse Intestinal Slicing Tool”(mIST),which can be used to longitudinally dissect murine intestines for further *** benchmarked the mIST against a commonly used procedure involving scissors to make a longitudinal cut along the *** of the mIST halved the time per mouse to prepare the intestines and outperformed alternative methods in smoothness of the cutting edge and overall *** sharing the plans for printing the mIST,we hope to contribute a uniformly applicable method for saving time and increasing consistency in studies of the mouse gastrointestinal tract.

There has been a growing interest over the past few years in the impact of male nutrition on fertility. Infertility has been linked to male overweight or obesity, and conventional semen parameter values seem to be altered in case of high body mass index （BmI）. A few studies assessing the impact of BmI on sperm DNA integrity have been published, but they did not lead to a strong consensus. Our objective was to explore further the relationship between sperm DNA integrity and BmI, through a 3-year multicentre study. Three hundred and thirty male partners in subfertile couples were included. Using the terminal uridine nick-end labelling （TUNEL） assay, we observed an increased rate of sDerm DNA damage in obese men （odds ratio （95% confidence interval）： 2.5 （1.2-5.1））.

Depressive Symptoms in Spouses of HIV Infected Individuals: A Study of HIV Uninfected Caregivers in Pune, India

Background: HIV infected individuals are at increased risk of developing psychiatric comorbidities, particularly depression. Coping with a disease associated with significant morbidity, mortality and financial stress is likely to result in psychiatric morbidity even among caregivers, especially family members. However, there is scarcity of such data in HIV uninfected caregiver spouses. material and methods: Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), a diagnostic tool that measures depressive symptoms, was administered to HIV uninfected caregiver spouses of HIV infected individuals (n = 55) and HIV seronegative individuals from general population (n = 63) with similar demographic profile. Chisquare test was used for categorical data. Results: Caregiver spouses exhibited higher depressive symptoms on the BDI-II (mean score 5.25 vs. 3.03;p = 0.029) as compared to others. The scores tended to be higher on the majority of the items, with sadness (p = 0.032), punishment feeling (p = 0.024) and crying (p = 0.037) being statistically significant. Conclusions: Our results indicate that it is important to address the mental health needs of the spouses of HIV infected individuals as they may play a major role in their care and support in the Indian

Introduction: Obesity is associated with an increased risk of fatty liver disease, predisposing to liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, as well as increased occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma. Obesity is intuitively considered a risk factor for increased post-hepatectomy morbidity and mortality. Nevertheless, peer-reviewed literature reveals significant heterogeneity between different cohorts contributing to varying conclusions. Outcomes in this cohort for Laparoscopic Liver Resection (LLR), especially in non-academic settings remain under-evaluated. The current study evaluated outcomes of LLR in obese patients, in a community health system. methods: A retrospective analysis of all patients undergoing LLR at the flagship hospital in the community health system, between 2013 and 2020, was performed. Classified into two groups based on Body mass Index (BmI): obese (BmI > 30 kg/m2) vs non-obese (BmI Results: 90 patients underwent LLR during the 7-year period;obese = 38 and non-obese = 52. No statistically significant differences were noted between obese and non-obese cohorts, in baseline characteristics including age (53.1 ± 15.1 vs 56.8 ± 11.6 years), female gender (60.5% vs 53.8%), and ASA grade (3.13 ± 0.53 vs 3.02 ± 0.54) (all p > 0.05). Univariate analysis showed no statistically significant differences between obese and non-obese groups, comparing estimated blood loss [300 (100 - 500) vs. 200 (100 - 462.5) cc], operative time [177 (125 - 215) vs. 150.9 (111 - 207) minutes], bile leak (2.6% vs. 4.1%), post-operative bleeding (2.6% vs. 4.1%), infection (0% vs. 4.1%), cardiorespiratory complication (10.5% vs 12.2%), conversion rate (5.3% vs 5.8%), length of stay [4 (3 - 5) vs. 4 (2 - 5) days], 90-day reoperation (0% vs. 2%) and 90-day readmission (2.6% vs. 4.1%) (p > 0.05). multivariate analysis showed no association between obesity and composite complication rate (p = 0.97), after adjusting for alcohol abuse, neoadjuvant therapy, and prior liver surgery. The collective response of electrons in an ultrathin foil target irradiated by an ultraintense(~6×10^(20)W cm^(-2)) laser pulse is investigated experimentally and via 3D particle-in-cell simulations. It is shown that if the target is sufficiently thin that the laser induces significant radiation pressure, but not thin enough to become relativistically transparent to the laser light, the resulting relativistic electron beam is elliptical, with the major axis of the ellipse directed along the laser polarization axis. When the target thickness is decreased such that it becomes relativistically transparent early in the interaction with the laser pulse, diffraction of the transmitted laser light occurs through a so called ‘relativistic plasma aperture', inducing structure in the spatial-intensity profile of the beam of energetic electrons. It is shown that the electron beam profile can be modified by variation of the target thickness and degree of ellipticity in the laser polarization.

Objective: Hemp seed oil is perfect for most skin types;it moisturizes skin and protects it from inflammation, oxidation, and other causes of aging. The problem is that the Hemp oil-based products do not penetrate the skin;they remain on the skin’s surface. Recently researchers have been trying to prepare nano emulsions of hemp oil to facilitate its permeation to deep skin layers. In all techniques used today, surfactants are added to the emulsification process. These surfactants may cause unwanted skin side effects. In the present study, we prepare micronized Hemp (m-Hemp) without using any surfactants in the micronization process, thus avoiding the side effects associated with surfactant addition. methods & Results: Particles size of m-Hemp was evaluated using electron microscopy. Various sizes of m-Hemp were found, the smallest being 100 nm in diameter. The antioxidation properties of m-Hemp were measured using the Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) technique and were found to be enhanced. Skin topography and morphology following a cream containing m-Hemp treatment were visualized by Optical Profilometry and ESEm respectively. The results show a marked improvement in skin topography in all measured parameters. In addition, human keratinocytes (HaCaT) were exposed to inflammatory conditions and were then treated using Hemp. As a result, one of the key inflammatory factors (IL-2) was significantly reduced after treatment with m-Hemp (p ≤ 0.0001). The skin penetration of the cream containing m-Hemp was tested on human skin using the ImOPE (Iterative multi-plane Optical Property Extraction) system. The results indicate that m-Hemp penetrates both the stratum corneum and the deep epidermal layers towards the dermis. Conclusion: The new cream prepared with micronized Hemp shows significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects and demonstrates the entrance of m-Hemp to the skin epidermal layer.
