An Ex-Press implant versus trabeculectomy in a fibrotic bleb with late failure after previous trabeculectomy

AIM: To compare the outcome of an Ex-Press implant and subscleral trabeculectomy(SST) in the management of glaucoma after previous trabeculectomy on a fibrotic ***: This randomized prospective study included 28 eyes from 28 patients(age range: 42-55 y) with primary open angle glaucoma(POAG) presented with elevated intraocular pressure(IOP) with fibrotic bleb despite previous SST for more than 4 mo. The eyes enrolled in the study were divided into two groups: group I(subjected to Ex-Press implant surgery) and group II [subjected to SST with mitomycin C(MMC)]. The follow-up continued one year after surgery to evaluate IOP, visual acuity(VA), visual field(VF), and postoperative complications. RESULTS: A significant decrease in IOP was found in both groups with a higher reduction in Ex-Press implant surgery with the mean IOP of 14.50 mm hg(P=0.001), while the SST group recorded the mean IOP of 16.50 mm hg(P=0.001) after one year. however, the difference between the two groups in terms of the decrease in IOP was insignificant. Fewer postoperative complications were recorded in the Ex-Press implant surgery and more cases requiring further anti-glaucomatous medications were seen in the SST group. Both groups showed stability in terms of VA and ***: Ex-Press implant surgery and SST with MMC are two surgical alternatives for controlling IOP in late failure that occurs more than 4 mo after previous SST with a fibrotic bleb. however, Ex-Press shunt is a safer surgery with fewer complications.

Sizing of STATCOM to Enhance Voltage Stability of Power Systems for Normal and Contingency Cases

The electric power infrastructure that has served huge loads for so long is rapidly running up against many limitations. Out of many challenges it is to operate the power system in secure manner so that the operation constraints are fulfilled under both normal and contingent conditions. Smart grid technology offers valuable techniques that can be deployed within the very near future or which are already deployed nowadays. Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices have been introduced to solve various power system problems. In literature, most of the methods proposed for sizing the FACTS devices only consider the normal operating conditions of power systems. Consequently, some transmission lines are heavily loaded in contingency case and the system voltage stability becomes a power transfer-limiting factor. This paper presents a technique for determining the proper rating/size of FACTS devices, namely the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM), while considering contingency cases. The paper also verifies that the weakest bus determined by eigenvalue and eigenvectors method is the best location for STATCOM. The rating of STATCOM is specified according to the required reactive power needed to improve voltage stability under normal and contingency cases. Two case system studies are investigated: a simple 5-bus system and the IEEE 14-bus system. The obtained results verify that the rating of STATCOM can be determined according to the worst contingency case, and through proper control it can still be effective for normal and other contingency cases.

Selection of highly efficient small interference RNA (SiRNA) targeting mammalian genes

RNAi is the method of silencing the expression of targeted genes. RNAi applications include gene function analysis and target validation. Designing highly efficient small interference RNA (siRNA) sequence with maximum target specificity for mammalian RNAi is one of important topics in recent years. In this work, a statistical analysis of the information for a large number (3734) of siRNA presented in the database available on the internet is done. This is to improve the design of efficient siRNA molecules. The (3734) siRNAs are classified according to their efficiency to three groups (high efficient, moderate efficient and low efficient). Thirteen properties (positional and thermodynamics) are identified in the high efficient group in the primary statistical study. In the final statistical study, the average weight of each identified property is calculated. A very good linear correlation was found between the average percentage efficiency and the weighted score of siRNA properties. It is found that the most important feature of highly efficient siRNA is the difference in binding energy between the 5’ end and the 3’ end of the anti-sense strand. The (RISC) activation step is a critical step in RNAi process where the efficiency of this process depends on the instability of the 5’ end of the anti-sense strand.

Comprehensive evaluation and sensitivity analysis of regeneration energy for acid gas removal plant using single and activated-methyl diethanolamine solvents

The absorption of acid gas using reactive amines is among the most widely used types of capturing ***,the absorption process requires intensive energy expenditure majorly in the solvent regeneration *** study simultaneously evaluated the regeneration energy of MDEA and PZ/MDEA solvents in terms of heat of absorption,sensible heat,and vaporization *** hysys version 8.8 simulation tool is applied to model the full acid gas removal plant for the chemical absorption *** new energy balance technique presents around the absorption and desorption columns to bring a new perspective of energy distribution in the capturing of acid gas *** analysis of regeneration energy and its three contributors is performed at several operation parameters such as absorber and stripper pressures,lean amine circulation rate,solvent concentration,reflux ratio,and CO2 and h2 S *** results show that the heat of absorption of PZ/MDEA system is higher than that for MDEA system for the same operating *** sensible heat is the main contributor in the required regeneration energy of MDEA solvent *** simulation results have been validated against data taken from real plant and *** product specifications of our simulation corroborate with real plant data in an excellent approach;additionally,the profile temperature of the absorber and the stripper columns are in good agreement with *** overall results highlight the direction of the effects of each parameter on the heat of absorption,sensible heat,and vaporization heat.

Effect of Natural Phytogenic Extract herbs on Physiological Status and Carcass Traits of Broiler Chickens

This paper was conducted to monitor the effect of mixed essential oils (AROMIX@) as phytogenic extract herbs administration in drinking water on growth performance, hematological, biochemical, immunological statuses and carcass traits of broiler chickens. A total number of 240 unsexed broiler chicks (Cobb-500) strain, were randomly divided to four equal groups, 60 chicks each at seven days of age. The first group drank tap water (control), the second, third and fourth group were drank the same water, adding 1 ml AROMIX@per 5, 10 and 15 liter tap water, respectively for 5 week of age. It was cleared from the results that there was a significant improve in feed conversion ratio, red and white blood cell counts, total protein, albumin, globulin, calcium, inorganic phosphorus and a relative reduction in the liver enzymes but in the normal range. however, it was observed that mix essential oils have no significant impact on carcass organs. high levels of the vital parameters, low levels of hepatic enzymes showed that birds health was good and relative improvement in immune system. The relative improvement of the absorption of minerals such as calcium and inorganic phosphorus to the positive role of essential oils. Administration in drank water was occasion, a regular activity of hepatic enzymes which can evidence safety and hepato-protective nature of these oils. Therefore, it is cleared from the results that the addition of these extract herbs in drinking water enhances the health meat, performance and physiological status of broiler chicks, which helps to obtain healthy meat and suitable for human consumption.

Using Environmentally Friendly hydrogels to Alleviate the Negative Impact of Drought on Plant

The use of natural hydrogels in agriculture provides solutions to many problems without threatening the environment. This study aims to evaluate the potential impact of environmentally friendly hydrogels (pectin, starch and pectin + starch) in reducing the negative effects of drought stress on tomato yield and quality. Two different peels (orange peel and banana peel) are used to prepare environmentally friendly hydrogels. The water retention efficiency of hydrogels has been studied. Greenhouse experiment for tomato under drought stress was conducted during 2019. These hydrogels were used under several level of irrigation (100%, 75%, and 50% FC), soil without hydrogel was used as a control. The results showed that the eco-friendly hydrogels (starch, pectin, and pectin + starch) had capacity retention of water for a long time. The obtained data from the greenhouse experiment showed that the eco-friendly hydrogel showed a positive effect on retention of water and increase the soil moisture content compared to control. The highest increase was observed at pectin + starch treatment. This increase reached to 2.8-, 2.4- and 2.0-fold for 100%, 75% and 50% FC compared to the control. Eco- friendly hydrogel application under different drought conditions led to improve yield and quality of tomato fruits. Moreover, conversion of agricultural wastes to hydrogels and the use of these eco-friendly materials instead of synthetic hydrogels are necessary to utilize the limited natural resources and decrease the harmful impact of agricultural wastes on the environment and pave the way for the transition to a sustainable agriculture system.

Nephroprotective Effect of <i>Nigella Sativa</i>and <i>Matricaria Chamomilla</i>in Cisplatin Induced Renal Injury—Supportive Treatments in Cisplatin Nephrotoxicity

Nigella sativa and Matricaria chamomilla are extensively consumed as tea or tonic. Despite their widespread use as a home remedy, relatively few trials evaluated their benefits in nephroprotection. hence, this study evaluates the nephroprotective effects of supportive treatments (N. sativa, M. chamomilla and vitamin E) in cisplatin nephrotoxicity rat model. Eighty rats divided into 10 groups, of 8 animals each. The first group (G1) injected with saline intra-pretoneal (i.p). G2 injected with 5 mg/kg cisplatin i.p on zero day of experiment and repeated 4 times, with 5 days free interval. G3-G10 received daily supportive treatments, started 5 days before the experiment (–5day). Concomitantly G4, G6, G8 and G10 injected with 5 mg/kg cisplatin i.p like G2. On day sixteen, animal scarified, serum and/or kidney tissue were used to determine kidney function tests (serum urea, creatinine, NAG, β-gal), oxidative stress indices (NO, LPO), antioxidant activities (SOD), sulphur compounds (GGT, GSh, total thiols ), apoptotic indices (cathepsin D, DNA fragmentation), two minerals (Ca2+ and zn2+). Cisplatin caused marked elevation in serum GGT that reduced signifi-cantly in group received M. chamomilla with cisplatin (P here is a correlation between GGT and NAG in cisplatin group (r = 0.731 p hat may suggest one of possible mechanisms of renal injury by cisplatin. M. chamomilla followed by N. sativa and vitamin E improved the biochemical and pathological renal injury, as determined by increasing the body weight, normalizing the kidney functions, decreasing the oxidative stress markers, improving the apoptotic markers, minimizing the pathological changes. hence, N. sativa and M. chamomilla will be a promising nephroprotective agents for reducing cisplatin nephrotoxicity, most probably, by antioxidants effects and inhibition GGT production, respectively.

Extraction equilibria and kinetics of Ti(Ⅳ)from leached chloride liquors of ilmenite

Extraction of titanium（Ⅳ）from real chloride leach liquor of ilmenite was carried out with 0.1 mol L^（-1）di-（2-ethylhexyl）phosphoric acid（hDEhP）in *** and kinetics studies for Ti（Ⅳ）were carried out in the presence of impurities that were leached with Ti（Ⅳ）.Parameters affecting extraction rate of Ti（Ⅳ）from chloride media in the presence of Fe（Ⅲ）,Mg（Ⅱ）,and Al（Ⅲ）were studied to evaluate the stoichiometry of extracted Ti（Ⅳ）*** is found that the extraction rate of Ti（Ⅳ）is dependent on the extractant concentration and ph of *** the optimum conditions,more than 95%Ti（Ⅳ）can be *** the basis of slope analysis method,the extracted species of Ti（Ⅳ）appears to be[TiO（h_2A_2）_2]_（org）,where h_2A_2 refers to ***,the kinetic studies of the extraction process of Ti（Ⅳ）and other metal ion impurities were carried out by a Lewis cell with a constant interfacial area of 16.7 cm^*** of the experimental results suggests that TiO^（2＋）extraction rate by hDEhP is the first with respect to hydrogen ion concentration and hDEhP *** results are interpreted by a reaction mechanism where the extraction process is controlled by a diffusion process at the interface rather than in the bulk phase.

Evaluation of the Antitumor and Radiosynthetizing Activity of a Novel Quinoline Sulfonamide Derivative (PIQSA) as a histone Deacetylase Inhibitor

Inhibition of histone deacetylases (hDACs) is emerging as a new strategy in cancer therapy. In the present work a novel pyrimido-quinoline benzene sulfonamide (PIQSA compound) was designed and synthesized postulating its ability to inhibit hDAC enzyme in cancer cells. This study was designed to examine the in vitro anti-tumor efficacy of PIQSA against Ehrlich Ascite carcinoma cells (EAC) and three of the human cancer cell lines (h460), brain (U251) and liver (hepG2). The results of Cytotoxic assays showed that PIQSA exhibited in vitro antitumor activity in a dose dependant manner. The tumor growth delay studies indicating that PIQSA resulted in significant regression in tumor growth, which was more pronounced when PIQSA treatment accompanied with radiation exposure. Also, the efficacy of PIQSA to influence radiation response in Ehrlich solid carcinoma (ESC) tumors was estimated. The results suggest that PIQSA exhibited antitumor activities and strong radioenhancing properties associated with inhibition of hDAC activity, DNA fragmentation followed by apoptotic cell death, preferential cell loss of cells particularly in G1/G0 phase through an apoptotic pathway.
