In the present study objective analyses of relative humidity (rH) at surface and at the levels of 850, 700 and 500 hPa have been made using Gandin's (1963) optimum interpolation scheme. As the horizontal resolution of the radiosonde stations is rather inadequate for upper air humidity analysis, a scheme has been developed, following rasmussen (1982) to estimate the upper air rH from the surface observations like surface rH, present weather and cloud cover. The relative humidities at the levels 850, 700 and 500 hPa were related to the surface observations through three separate regression relations. The rH values at 850, 700 and 500 hPa levels were estimated from the surface rH, cloud coverage and present weather using the above regression relations and subsequently the objective analyses at 00 GMT for the period from 4 July to 8 July 1979, were made using these estimated data along with the observed radiosonde data. Objective analyses were also made for the same period using only the radiosonde data for comparison to study the impact of those estimated data. root mean square errors were computed for all the five days by interpolating rH at the observing stations from the objectively analysed field and comparing them with the actually observed rH to examine how best the analyses (with and without estimated data) fitted the observations. Lastly they were compared with satellite cloud pictures. This study shows that the estimated upper air rH values have positive impact on the analysis of upper air rH and could be used over radiosonde data sparse region and even over oceanic regions.

recent studies of leachate induced toxicity have mainly focused on crude leachates collected once from the landfill site, while little attention has been paid to the changes in toxicity resulting from the varying leachate concentration with respect to seasonal variation. The present study deals with the toxicological effects of municipal landfill leachate on Vicia faba. Leachate samples were collected in different seasons (summer, monsoon and winter) and toxicity study was performed via various parameters like germination inhibition, growth, chlorophyll content, lipid peroxidation and activities of antioxidant enzymes. The results show that landfill leachate of all three seasons promoted the growth and chlorophyll content at lower doses for short exposure time but at the higher doses there was inhibition of growth as well as reduction in the chlorophyll content. There was a dose dependent elevation in the malondialdehyde (MDA) level and inhibited antioxidant enzyme activities. The physiological responses varied as a function of leachate concentration which was further dependent on the season of leachate collection. Therefore, this study suggests that the leachate collected in all the three seasons is toxic and may pose a health effect to the general public directly or indirectly. It also suggests that the most important aspect for the treatment of landfill leachate is controlling its concentration which varies with respect to the seasons of leachate collection.

Direct separation of Xe and Kr from air or used nuclear fuel(UNF)off-gas by means of porous adsorbents is of industrial importance but is a very challenging *** this work,we show a robust metal-organic framework(MOF),namely ECUT-60,which renders not only high chemical stability,but also unique structure with multiple *** leads to the ultrahigh Xe adsorption capacity,exceeding most reported porous ***,this MOF also enables high selectivity of Xe over Kr,CO2,O2,and N2,leading to the high-performance separation for trace quantitites of Xe/Kr from a simulated UNF reprocessing *** separation capability has been demonstrated by using dynamic breakthrough experiments,giving the record Xe uptake up to 70.4 mmol/kg and the production of 19.7 mmol/kg pure ***,ECUT-60 has promising potential in direct production of Xe from UNF off-gas or *** separation mechanism,as unveiled by theoretical calculation,is attributed to the multiple traps in ECUT-60 that affords rigid restrict for Xe atom via van der Waals force.

A high speed and low power Viterbi decoder architecture design based on deep pipelined, clock gating and toggle filtering has been presented in this paper. The Add-Compare-Select (ACS) and Trace Back (TB) units and its sub circuits of the decoder have been operated in deep pipelined manner to achieve high transmission rate. The Power dissipation analysis is also investigated and compared with the existing results. The techniques that have been employed in our low-power design are clock-gating and toggle filtering. The synthesized circuits are placed and routed in the standard cell design environment and implemented on a Xilinx XC2VP2fg256-6 FPGA device. Power estimation obtained through gate level simulations indicated that the proposed design reduces the power dissipation of an original Viterbi decoder design by 68.82% and a speed of 145 MHz is achieved.

As the wireless sensor networks are easily deployable, the volume of sensor applications has been increased widely in various fields of military and commercial areas. In order to attain security on the data exchanged over the network, a hybrid cryptographic mechanism which includes both symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic functions is used. The public key cryptographic ECC security implementation in this paper performs a matrix mapping of data’s at the points on the elliptical curve, which are further encoded using the private symmetric cipher cryptographic algorithm. This security enhancement with the hybrid mechanism of ECC and symmetric cipher cryptographic scheme achieves efficiency in energy conservation of about 7% and 4% compared to the asymmetric and symmetric cipher security implementations in WSN.

Effect of Silicon and Nitrogen Nutrition on Pest and Disease Intensity in rice

Nutrition management is the most important for high yield production but it may affect the response of rice plants to pest and diseases due to the change of microclimate under rice plant canopy. The knowledge of nutrition management and its relation with pest and diseases are basis for setting up a high yield production system. Most of the pest and disease control procedures used by farmers can be considered as soil fertility management and these nutrition practices can have impact on the physiological susceptibility of crop plants to pest and diseases by affecting the plant resistance. Silicon content of plants is particularly effective against pest and diseases in rice and certain rice genotypes are more efficient accumulators of silicon, thus making them more resistant. In the absence of natural heritable resistance in rice varieties, resistance could be induced by altemate strategies to suppress certain pest and pathogens. Hence experiments were carried out in two stages during kharif 2010 and 2011 to assess the concentration of silicon in the index leaves of rice plant utilizing 133 varieties in four locations. The silica content of promising varieties ranged from 1.50% to 3.20%, 1.60% to 3.15%, 1.49% to 3.20% and 1.55% to 3.06% with a mean values of 2.50%, 2.48%, 2.51% and 2.43% at Jagtial, Warangal, rajendranagar and rudrur centres of Telangana region and not much variation in mean silica content in index leaves at different places. The overall yield from four locations ranged from 2,653 kg/ha to 6,860 kg/ha with a mean of 5,624 kg/ha. The yields recorded at Jagtial, Warangal, rajendranagar and rudrur centres ranged from 2,886 to 7,198, 2,653 to 6,831, 2,653 to 6,860 and 4,399 to 5,950 kg/ha, respectively. The lowest mean yield 5,069 kg/ha was noticed at rudrur and the highest yield 5,940 kg/ha was found at Warangal. The variations in yields might be due to genotypic variations and also due to variations in climatic conditions of different locations.

The commollly used objective analysis scheme(Scheme-A) for the analysis Of wind and geopotential height smoothen the divergent component of the wind which is rather important in the tropics,specifically over convective *** overcome this deficiellcy, a new analysis SCheme in which divergent component is included in the statistical model of the wind forecast errors,has been proposed by Daley(1985).Following this scheme,a new set of correlahon functions of forecast errors for the indian region during monsoon season which are suitable for analysing the tropical wind are *** analysis scheme(Scheme--B) as well as Scheme-A were used to make analyses for the period from 4 July to & July 1979(12 GMT) at 850,700 and 200 hpa levels over an area bounded by l.875'N to 39.375'N and 41.250'E to 108.750'E and subsequently divergent component,velocity potential are computed for both *** from both these schemes show that in the monsoon depression region the velocity potential and divergence have increased in the later case(Scheme-B).This suggests that the divergent component has been enhanced in Scheme-B and that the objechve of this study is realized to some extent.

Bacterial infections and multidrug-resistant bacteria are major health burdens in wound *** antimicrobial agents,e.g.,ε-polylysine(ε-PL),provide a broad spectrum of antibacterial properties and support dermal cell ***,ε-PL was incorporated into polycaprolactone(PCL)/gelatin electrospun scaffolds collected at varying rotation ***,the samples were crosslinked using dopamine hydrochloride to provide highly proliferative dressings with broad antimicrobial *** morphological study showed that the electrospun wound dressings were smooth,continuous,and bead-free,with a mean diameter ranging from 267±7 to 331±8 nm for all random and aligned *** fiber alignment of the electrospun PCL/gelatin scaffolds improved their tensile strength and ***,nanofiber mats are highly hydro-philic,which is crucial for an efficient wound *** samples also demonstrated high antimicrobial properties against common wound bacterial strains,including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MrSA),Staphylococcus aureus(SA),Escherichia coli(EC),Acinetobacter baumannii(AB),and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(PA).Mammalian cell prolifera-tion and morphology assays involving primary human dermal fibroblasts(hDFs)and immortalized keratinocytes(HaCaT)showed excellent biocompatibility of the electrospun mats and remarkably aligned ***,aligned mats showed more cell migration than randomly oriented mats,which is desirable for more efficient wound ***,it can be concluded that aligned PCL/gelatin mats containingε-PL are promising for potential use in wound dressings.
