In this paper, a micro-mechanical model is implemented in software for the prediction of local mechanical properties of discontinuous short fiber reinforced composites. The model, based on the Mori and Tanaka method, shear-lag, computational model, Nielsen-Chen model and Miwa’s model is used to predict the elastic behaviour of basalt short fiber reinforced with Al alloy composites. The Al/basalt Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) contain basalt short fiber from 2.5% to 10% in steps of 2.5 wt.% and are fabricated using squeeze infiltration technique. The effects of fiber length and orientation on elastic properties of Al/basalt MMCs are investigated. A comparison between the experimental data and the theoretical data based on physical models is made, and the significance of the findings is discussed. The results show that as short basalt fiber content was increased from 2.5% to 10% by wt.%, an improvement in young’s modulus of 13.26% has been observed. Optical microscopy was used to examine the general microstructure and fiber distribution in the composite produced. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was performed on the fractured surface to understand the failure mechanisms.

This study represents empirical research that aims to investigate how the labor market for the financial-accounting segment in romania requires professional and personal skills developed within the accounting education curriculum in the romanian universities of this profile, or these produce young practitioners inappropriate from the curricular point of view to the employers＇ demands. The study develops a statistical analysis of frequencies, aiming to find an importance stratification of the professional and personal characteristics in the employers＇ demands. The study groups the job advertisements into three categories： for financial accounting, managerial accounting and audit, and seeks to identify specific curriculum descriptors for these categories of professional development. At the same time, the study does a frequency analysis of curriculum descriptors and job execution, comparatively to the management jobs, attempting to do a hierarchy of professional and personal skills, depending on the wording of notices by employers. The conclusions of the report attempts to be a synthesis of the study assumptions results that lead to the idea that the curricular programs of the universities of this profile, though responding in terms of theoretical knowledge, should be extended in practice, but particularly in the personal skills development, which are defining in a competitive selection process.

The needs of young people in classroom based HIV/AIDS Education in Malawi, have been explored using questionnaires, interviews and document analysis. In contrast to previously reported literature on HIV/AIDS education in Malawi, the present study has drawn pupils’ needs directly from the pupils themselves, focussed on classroom practice, and triangulated the various data sets to give a comprehensive narrative of what pupils perceive to be their needs in HIV/AIDS education, and used the same to question the effectiveness of the HIV/AID curricula. Pupils identified the need for open discussion climates on HIV/AIDS issues despite a conservative cultural and religious adult world. They also identified a need for explicit and accurate knowledge on HIV/AIDS issues, opportunities to acquire behavioural skills for HIV prevention, and involvement of external speakers. The wealth of the pupils needs identified in this study suggests lack of effectiveness of the HIV/AIDS curricula. This suggestion however needs to be reinforced with data from classroom observations, teacher questionnaires, and interviews with teachers and education advisers in order to inform effective policy and practice.

Electrocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production is hampered by the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction(OEr)and large power consumption and replacing the OEr with thermodynamically favourable reactions can improve the energy conversion *** iron corrodes easily and even self-corrodes to form magnetic iron oxide species and generate corrosion currents,a novel strategy to integrate the hydrogen evolution reaction(HEr)with waste Fe upgrading reaction(FUr)is proposed and demonstrated for energy-efficient hydrogen production in neutral *** heterostructured MoSe_(2)/MoO_(2) grown on carbon cloth(MSM/CC)shows superior HEr performance to that of commercial Pt/C at high current *** replacing conventional OEr with FUr,the potential required to afford the anodic current density of 10 m A cm^(-2)decreases by 95%.The HEr/FUr overall reaction shows an ultralow voltage of 0.68 V for 10 m A cm^(-2)with a power equivalent of 2.69 k Wh per m^(3)H_(2).Additionally,the Fe species formed at the anode extract the rhodamine B(rh B)pollutant by flocculation and also produce nanosized magnetic powder and beneficiated rh B for value-adding *** work demonstrates both energy-saving hydrogen production and pollutant recycling without carbon emission by a single system and reveals a new direction to integrate hydrogen production with environmental recovery to achieve carbon neutrality.

Buddy Study: Partners for better health in adolescents with type 2 diabetes

AIM: To investigate whether assigning young, healthy and motivated lay volunteer partners("buddies") to adolescents with type 2 diabetes improves hemoglobin A1c(HbA 1c). METHODS: Adolescents with type 2 diabetes were randomized to partnering with a "buddy" or to conventional treatment. During the initial screening visit, which coincided with a routine outpatient diabetes clinic visit, patients with type 2 diabetes underwent a physical examination, detailed medical history, laboratory measurement of HbA 1c, and completed two questionnaires(Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory and Children's Depression Inventory) to assess their overall quality of life and the presence of depressive symptoms. Patients were then randomized to the intervention(the buddy system) or conventional treatment(standard care). All patients were scheduled to return for followup at 3- and 6-mo after their initial visit. Hb A1 c was determined at all visits(i.e., at screening and at the 3- and 6-mo follow-up visits) and quality of life and depressive symptoms were evaluated at the screening visit and were reassessed at the 6-mo visit. rESULTS: Ten adolescents, recruited from a pool of approximately 200 adolescents, enrolled over a twoyear time period, leading to premature termination of the study. In contrast, we easily recruited motivated lay volunteers. We found no change in HbA 1c from the initial to the 6-mo visit in either group, yet our small sample size limited systematic assessment of this outcome. Participants repeatedly missed clinic appointments, failed to conduct self-glucose-monitoring and rarely brought their glucometers to clinic visits. Total quality of life scores(72.6 ± 6.06) at screening were similar to previously reported scores in adolescents with type 2 diabetes(75.7 ± 15.0) and lower than scores reported in normal-weight(81.2 ± 0.9), overweight(83.5 ± 1.8), and obese youths without diabetes(78.5 ± 1.8) or in adolescents with type 1 diabetes(80.5 ± 13.1). Dietary omega-3 (n - 3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) are recommended by public health organizations to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, and several epidemiological studies have suggested there is an inverse association between n - 3 intake and human cancers. However, n - 3 are susceptible to an increase in lipid peroxidation in the human body. As part of a crossover dietary intervention study of a diet (20% of energy from fat) with or without an additional 3% of energy from a mixture of n - 3 (with 5.36 g α-linolenic acid and 1.45 g eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid per 2000 kcal per day), we measured total in vivo lipid peroxidation in healthy postmenopausal women (n = 15). Our results indicated that the diet with 3% of energy from n - 3 significantly increased the urinary concentrations of total polar lipophilic aldehydes and related compounds produced via lipid peroxidation (p α, β-unsaturated hydroxy aldehydes 4-hydroxy-2-trans - hexenal (p trans -decenal (p red to the diet with less than 1% of energy from n - 3. This is also the first study to document the presence of 4-hydroxy-2-trans -decenal in the urine of individuals consuming n - 3. These results demonstrate that an increase in 3% of energy from dietary n – 3 increases in vivo lipid peroxidation.

Circulating peptide is a potential source of biomarkers for cancer ***,the existence of large molecular weight proteins in plasma have a disastrous effect on circulating peptides isolating and ***,nanotrap fractionation following by mass spectrometry have been applied to quantify the levels of bradykinin (BK) and hydroxylated bradykinin (Hyp-BK) as a relative measure of KrAS-regulated prolyl-4-hydroxylase alpha-1 (P4HA1) which may serve as early diagnosis marker for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).We found that P4HA1 can be upregulated by KrASG12v,which is a PDAC driver mutation,using HPNE/KrAS and HPNE *** we revealed that P4HA1 is overexpressed in PDAC tumors,compared to normal and inflamed pancreatic *** interference revealed that P4HA1 activity was primarily responsible for Hyp-BK *** spectrometry analysis revealed that plasma Hyp-BK/BK ratio was higher in PDAC than pancreatitis patients and healthy controls,while the area under the receiver operating characteristic (rOC) curve (AUC) is 0.8209 (95%Cl,0.7269-0.9149).The Hyp-BK/BK association with PDAC was reproduced in another cohort,where this ratio was found to increase with advancing tumor *** novel findings paved the way for wider applications of Nanotrap coupled mass spectrometry as a powerful tool for revealing biosignatures from plasma.

Schizophrenia-associated MicrorNA–Gene Interactions in the Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex

Schizophrenia-associated anomalies in gene expression in postmortem brain can be attributed to a combination of genetic and environmental influences. Given the small effect size of common variants, it is likely that we may only see the combined impact of some of these at the pathway level in small postmortem studies. At the gene level, however, there may be more impact from common environmental exposures mediated by influential epigenomic modifiers, such as microrNA(mirNA). We hypothesise that dysregulation of mirNAs and their alteration of gene expression have significant implications in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. In this study, we integrate changes in cortical gene and mirNA expression to identify regulatory interactions and networks associated with the disorder. Gene expression analysis in post-mortem prefrontal dorsolateral cortex(BA 46)(n = 74 matched pairs of schizophrenia, schizoaffective, and control samples)was integrated with mirNA expression in the same cohort to identify gene–mirNA regulatory networks. A significant gene–mirNA interaction network was identified, including mir-92 a, mir-495,and mir-134, which converged with differentially expressed genes in pathways involved in neurodevelopment and oligodendrocyte function. The capacity for mirNA to directly regulate gene expression through respective binding sites in BCL11 A, PLP1, and SYT11 was also confirmed to support the biological relevance of this integrated network model. The observations in this study support the hypothesis that mi rNA dysregulation is an important factor in the complex pathophysiology of schizophrenia.
