1. Overview The 2016 Quadrennial Ozone Symposium （QOS-2016） was held on 4-9 September 2016 in Edinburgh, UK. The Symposium was organized by the International Ozone Commission （IO3C）, the NErC Centre for Ecology ＆ Hydrology and the University of Edinburgh, and was co-sponsored by the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics, the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, and the World Meteorological Organization.

Three-dimensional mapping and section work undertaken by us in 2008 have identified 11 stratigraphic units at Maludong *** radiocarbon dating of charcoal established an accurate and internally consistent age profile for the sequence of 17.8±0.2 ka to 13.2±0.1 *** analysis showed changes in externally derived pedogenically enhanced material consistent with a warming in climate between the cold period of Henrich Event 1 and the B lling-Aller d *** remains recovered during the 1989 excavation were derived from a deposit dating to this interstadial,or between 14.3±0.3 ka and 13.5±0.1 *** features,including burnt rocks,baked sediment and thick charcoal and ash layers,were identified and examined through archaeomagnetic *** monkey fossils are described here,one of them being reassigned from Macaca robustus to *** confirm the young age of the site and also show signs of anthropogenic alteration in the form of *** human cranial remains are reported for the first time and new data are provided for some specimens described previously.A range of new features is identified that strengthen the affinities of the Maludong remains to archaic *** presence of this globally unique mosaic of archaic and modern features raises important questions about human evolutionary history in East Asia during the Late Upper Pleistocene.

AIM:To validate the sleep-disordered breathing components of a portable electrocardiography and hemodynamic monitor to be used for sleep apnea ***:Sleep-disordered breathing(SDB) is associated with cardiovascular *** with existing cardiovascular disease may have unrecognized SDB or may develop SDB while under the care of a cardiologist.A screening device for SDB,easy to use and appealing to cardiologists,would assist in referral of appropriate patients for full polysomnography(PSG).A cardiac and respiratory monitor(CPAM) was attached to patients undergoing PSG and an apnea/hypopnea index(AHI) *** CPAM device produced respiration rate,snoring rate,individual apnea/hypopnea events and an SDB severity score(SDBSS).In addition to AHI,an expert over-reader annotated individual breaths,snores and SDB breathing events to which the automated algorithms were ***:The test set consisted of data from 85 patients(age:50.5 ± 12.4 years).Of these,57 had a positive PSG defined as AHI ≥ 5.0(mean:30.0 ± 29.8,negative group mean:1.5 ± 1.2).The sensitivity and specificity of the SDBSS compared to AHI was 57.9% and 89.3%,*** correlation of snoring rate by CPAM compared to the expert overreader was r = 0.58(mean error:1.52 snores/min),while the automated respiration rate had a correlation of r = 0.90(mean error:0.70 breaths/min).CONCLUSION:This performance assessment shows that CPAM can be a useful portable monitor for screening and follow-up of subjects for SDB.

Brassica rapa ***(turnip)is an important crop in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP)with anti-hypoxic *** is rich in glucosinolates,isothiocyanates and phenolic compounds with diverse biological activities,involving anti-oxidant,anti-tumor,anti-diabetic,anti-inflammatory,anti-microbial,hypolipidemic,cardioprotective,hepatoprotective,nephroprotective and analgesic *** this study,the ethyl acetate(EtOAc)and butanol parts of Brassica rapa were first revealed with inhibitory effects onα-glucosidase,whereas the water part was *** bioassay-guided isolation on the EtOAc and butanol parts yielded 12 compounds,involving three indole derivatives,indole-3-acetonitrile(1)4-methoxyindole-3-acetonitrile(2)and indole-3-aldehyde(3)two flavonoids,liquiritin(4)and licochalcone A(5)two phenylpropanoids,sinapic acid(6)and caffeic acid(7)two phenylethanol glycosides,2-phenylethylβ-glucopyranoside(8)and salidroside(9)and three other compounds,syringic acid(10)adenosine(11)and(3β,20E)-ergosta-5,20(22)-dien-3-ol(12)Licochalcone A(5)and caffeic acid(7)showedα-glucosidase inhibitory activity with IC 50 values of 62.4±8.0μM and 162.6±3.2μM,comparable to the positive control,acarbose(IC 50=142±0.02μM).Docking study suggested that licochalcone A(5)could well align in the active site ofα-glucosidase(docking score=-52.88)by forming hydrogen bonds(Gln1372,Asp1420,Gln1372,Arg1510),hydrophobic effects(Tyr1251,Tyr1251,Trp1355,Phe1560,Ile1587,Trp1355,Phe1559,Phe1559)andπ-πstacking interaction(Trp1355).This study provides valuable information for turnip as a new resource in searching anti-diabetic candidates.

Withania sominifera （Indian ginseng） was transformed by Agrobacterium rhizogenes. Explants from seedling roots, stems, hypocotyls, cotyledonary nodal segments, cotyledons and young leaves were inoculated with A. rhizogenes strain r1601. Hairy （transformed） roots were induced from cotyledons and leaf explants. The transgenic status of hairy roots was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction using nptll and rolB specific primers and, subsequently, by Southern analysis for the presence of nptll and rolB genes in the genomes of transformed roots. Four clones of hairy roots were established; these differed in their morphology. The doubling time of faster growing cultures was 8-14 d with a fivefold increase in biomass after 28 d compared with cultured, non-transformed seedling roots. MS-based liquid medium was superior for the growth of transformed roots compared with other culture media evaluated （SH, LS and N6）, with MS-based medium supplemented with 40 g/L sucrose being optimal for biomass production. Cultured hairy roots synthesized withanolide A, a steroidal lactone of medicinal and therapeutic value. The concentration of withanolide A in transformed roots （157.4 μg/g dry weight） was 2.7-fold more than in non-transformed cultured roots （57.9 μg/g dry weight）.
