A novel layer deletion method is used to experimentally investigate the effect of induced shielding current transmission (ISCT) in the longitudinal direction on the levitation force of a single-domain YBa2Cu3O7?x (YBCO) cylindrical superconductor (?30×7 mm). In the experiment the sample was gradually sliced into two equal sheets, at the middle height along a diameter with 5 mm every step. The experimental results show that the levitation force is closely related with the ISCT in the longitudinal direction. Any layer deletion, even a small piece of layer deletion can reduce the levitation force of the sample. After the whole layer was deleted the levitation force can diminish about 50%. It is also found that the levitation force is directly proportional to the effective factor of surface area, which is equal to the top surface area divided by the total surface area parallel to the top surface of the sample.

We investigate generalized Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity,coupling the dilaton field with two scalar matter *** obtain the equations of motion for the fields and investigate a linear perturbation of the solutions in *** study two specific situations that allow for analytic solutions with topological behavior and check how the dilaton field,the warp factor and the ricci scalar *** particular,we show how the parameters can be used to modify the structure of the ***,the perturbations are,in general,described by intricate coupled differential equations,but in some specific cases,we can construct the corresponding zero modes analytically.

Among the plant molecular mechanisms capable of effectively mitigating the effects of adverse weather conditions,the heat shock proteins(HSPs),a group of chaperones with multiple functions,stand *** a time of full progress on the omic sciences,they look very promising in the genetic engineering field,especially in order to conceive superior genotypes,potentially tolerant to abiotic stresses(AbSts).recently,some works concerning certain families of maize HSPs(ZmHSPs)were ***,there was still a lack of a study that,with a high degree of criteria,would fully conglomerate *** distinct but complementary strategies,we have prospected as many ZmHSPs candidates as possible,gathering more than a thousand *** detailed data mining,we accounted for 182 validated ones,belonging to seven families,which were subcategorized into classes with potential for functional *** them,we identified dozens of motifs with some degree of similarity with proteins from different kingdoms,which may help explain some of their still poorly understood means of *** in silico and in vitro approaches,we compared their expression levels after controlled exposure to several AbSts’sources,applied at diverse tissues,on varied phenological *** on gene ontology concepts,we still analyzed them from different perspectives of term *** have also searched,in model plants and close species,for potentially orthologous *** all these new insights,which culminated in a plentiful supplementary material,rich in tables,we aim to constitute a fertile consultation source for those maize researchers attracted by these interesting stress proteins.

Several substations in operation were commissioned decades *** substations are overstressed,then their protection equipment cannot provide an effective safety condition to the *** the worst cases,short‐circuits can cause permanent damage to the system if the overcurrent is higher than the capacity of the installed *** are some possible solutions for those cases:replace all the equipment in the overstressed substation,build a new one in parallel or install a fault current limiter(FCL)*** an economic point of view,introducing FCLs in the power system is the best way to solve the described *** commercial solutions available are the pyrotechnic FCL,air coil reactor,neutral earthing resistor,and high impedance ***,these devices are limited and present several *** the’70s,there has been a search for reliable FCL devices that do not interfere in the regular operation of substations and could limit the fault currents to the protection system rated *** were so many FCL technologies proposed in the last *** proposed new devices may use superconducting technologies,power electronics,or *** paper reviews proven FCL technologies,focusing on full‐scale devices demonstrated in field and lab *** goal is to introduce the main FCL technologies in development and discuss didactically their operation principle,the built prototypes,the commercial units,whether they exist,and the main drawbacks for each technology presented.A final analysis of the level of maturity for each FCL technology is discussed using the TrL(Technology readiness level)scale in order to find technologies with more potential for mass *** three technologies closer to the full commercial application are:the resistive Superconducting FCL,the Saturated Iron Core FCL,and the Series reactor FCL.

Objective: To investigate the antibacterial activities of crude ethanol extracts of 12 Philippine medicinal ***: Crude ethanol extracts from 12 Philippine medicinal plants were evaluated for their antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycinresistant Enterococcus, extended spectrum β-lactamase-producing, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae and metallo-β-lactamase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii. results: The leaf extracts of Psidium guajava, Phyllanthus niruri, Ehretia microphylla and Piper betle(P. betle) showed antibacterial activity against the Gram-positive methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus. P. betle showed the highest antibacterial activity for these bacteria in the disk diffusion(16-33 mm inhibition diameter), minimum inhibitory concentration(19-156 μg/m L) and minimum bactericidal concentration(312 μg/m L) assays. P. betle leaf extracts only showed remarkable antibacterial activity for all the Gram-negative multidrug-resistant bacteria(extended spectrum β-lactamaseproducing, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae and metallo-β-lactamase-producing) in the disk diffusion(17-21 mm inhibition diameter), minimum inhibitory concentration(312-625 μg/m L) and minimum bactericidal concentration(312-625 μg/m L) assays. Conclusions: P. betle had the greatest potential value against both Gram-negative and Grampositive multidrug-resistant bacteria. Favorable antagonistic activities were also exhibited by the ethanol extracts of Psidium guajava, Phyllanthus niruri and Ehretia microphylla.

Introduction: Vascular injuries are among the main mechanisms of death in trauma. In Brazil, the general surgeon is in charge of emergencies procedures in most hospitals, but many times these surgeons are not familiarized with more complex vascular surgical techniques that often require a vascular surgeon. Pará State is the most populated one in the Brazilian Amazon region and a single hospital with vascular surgeons permanently on call is available. Objectives: To evaluate demographic data on vascular trauma victims;to establish the mechanism, anatomic location, injury pattern and surgical techniques used to manage the vascular lesions treated at the Metropolitan Emergency Hospital;to ascertain associated non-vascular injuries and victim’s clinical outcome. Methods: retrospective analysis of medical records of patients treated for vascular injuries from February 2011 to February 2013 at the institution in case. All arterial and venous injuries were analyzed. Patients who were not operated by the vascular surgery team, iatrogenic injuries and those who underwent primary or sustained traumatic amputation were excluded. results: 173 cases;95.95% were male;54.90% were between 25 and 49 years;penetrating trauma mechanisms were found in 88.44%;lower limb was the most affected topography (41.50%);the most injured vessels were the superficial femoral and ulnar arteries (in 15.75% of cases each) and the superficial femoral vein (17.77 %);autologous vein graft was the most performed technique for arterial repair (36.57%) and ligature was performed in 85.00% of venous trauma;amputation rate was 15.60% and mortality rate was 6.35%. Conclusions: Vascular injuries occurred predominantly in men from 24 to 49 years old;penetrating mechanisms were most frequent;lower limb was the most affected topography;the most frequently injured vessels were the ulnar and superficial femoral arteries and the superficial femoral vein;complete vessel transection was the most common injury pattern;

AIM: To investigate whether Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection is associated with hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection, presence of enteroparasites, and other surrogates of fecal exposure. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study in 121 children consecutively admitted at a pediatric hospital in Salvador, Brazil. H pyloriand HAV infection were identified by the presence of serum antibodies. Stool specimens were examined for the presence of ova and parasites. A structured questionnaire inquiring about sanitary conditions and life style was applied to each subject. rESULTS: Fifty-one of the 121 children (42.1%) were found to be seropositive for H pylori, and 45 (37.2%) for HAV. The seroprevalence of Hpyloriand HAV both increased significantly with age. Cross-tabulation of data showed that 26 (21.5%) were seropositive and 51 (42.1%) were negative for both H py/lriand HAV antibodies (x^2=7.18, Or=2.8, CI 1.30-5.97). The age adjusted Or for an HAV-infected child being H pylori positive was 2.3 (CI 1.02-5.03). The agreement between H pylori and HAV seropositivity was fair (k=0.24). After controlling for possible confounding, the variables remaining independently associated with seropositivity to H pylori were age, presence of Giardia lamblia in feces (Or=3.2, 95%CI, 1.1-9.5) and poor garbage disposal quality (Or=2.4, 95%CI, 1.1-5.1). CONCLUSION: Our data suggest that H pylori infection is associated with surrogate markers of fecal exposure. Thus, we conclude that the fecal-oral route is relevant in the transmission of HP among children in an urban setting of a developing country. The association observed between G. lamblia and H pylori infection may have several explanations. Further studies to investigate this relationship are warranted.

An innovative inversion code, named “Curupira v1.0”, has been developed using Matlab to determine the vertical distribution of resistivity beneath the subsoil. The program integrates Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES), successful in shallow subsurface exploration and Time Domain Electromagnetic (TEM) techniques, better suited for deeper exploration, both of which are widely employed in geophysical exploration. These methodologies involve calculating subsurface resistivity through appropriate inversion processes. To address the ill-posed nature of inverse problems in geophysics, a joint inversion scheme combining VES and TEM data has been incorporated into Curupira v1.0. The software has been tested on both synthetic and real-world data, the latter of which was acquired from the Parana sedimentary basin which we summarise here. The results indicate that the joint inversion of VES and TEM techniques offers improved recovery of simulated models and demonstrates significant potential for hydrogeological studies.
