Extraction Characteristics of selenium as Affected by Coal Fly Ash Type, Water Extractant, and Extraction Time

selenium (se) contamination can be a potential groundwater concern near un-lined coal ash landfills. Of all the Environmental Protection Agency’s priority and non-priority pollutants, se has the narrowest concentration range considered beneficial and detrimental for aquatic and terrestrial organisms. The effects of ash type (i.e., fresh and weathered), water-extractant type (i.e., deionized water, rainwater, and groundwater), and extraction time (i.e., 2 and 6 hours) on se, arsenic (As), and chromium (Cr) concentrations were investigated from Class C, subbituminous coal fly ash produced at the Flint Creek Power Plant (Benton County, Ar). Water-extractable se concentrations differed (p = 0.03) between ash types across water-extractants, but were unaffected (p > 0.05) by extraction times. Unexpectedly, fresh ash water-extractable se concentrations were below minimum detection limits (i.e., 2.0 μg·L-1) for all treatments. In contrast, averaged over extraction times, the water-extractable se concentration from weathered ash was greatest (p roundwater and rainwater, which did not differ and averaged 60.0 μg·L-1, compared to extraction with deionized water (57.6 μg·L-1). selenite seO32- was greater (p ·L-1) than in the weathered ash (0.70 mg·kg-1), while selenate seO42- concentration was greater (p red (0.67 mg·kg-1) than in fresh ash (0.48 mg·kg-1). results from this study indicate that environmental weathering of Class C, subbituminous fly ash promotes oxidation of selenite, to the less toxic, but highly mobile selenate. The formation of hydrated ettringite [Ca6Al2(sO4)3(OH)12·26H2O] and calcium selenite (CaseO3) likely acted as a sink for weathered ash selenite. Implications of this research include a better understanding of the past, present, and future environmental and health risk potential associated with the release of watersoluble se, As, and Cr to aid in the development of sustainable fly ash management strategies.

Antimicrobial resistance(AMr)poses a critical threat to global health and development,with environmental factors—particularly in urban areas—contributing significantly to the spread of antibiotic resistance genes(ArGs).However,most research to date has been conducted at a local level,leaving significant gaps in our understanding of the global status of antibiotic resistance in urban *** address this issue,we thoroughly analyzed a total of 86,213 ArGs detected within 4,728 metagenome samples,which were collected by the Meta sUB International Consortium involving diverse urban environments in 60 cities of 27 countries,utilizing a deep-learning based *** findings demonstrated the strong geographical specificity of urban environmental resistome,and their correlation with various local socioeconomic and medical *** also identified distinctive evolutionary patterns of ArG-related biosynthetic gene clusters(BGCs)across different countries,and discovered that the urban environment represents a rich source of novel *** study provides a comprehensive overview of the global urban environmental resistome,and fills a significant gap in our knowledge of large-scale urban antibiotic resistome analysis.

Development of Competitive Advantage in Apparel Industry in Kenya

The Kenyan apparel industry has played a major role in the country＇s economic development; however the sector＇s competitiveness has decreased due to inadequate industrial strategy and loss of global markets resulting from elimination of quotas in 2005. China and other Asian countries＇ ability to produce quality products efficiently at lower comparative costs has been threatening apparel manufacturers in most developing countries in Africa. The purpose of this study is to analyse Kenya＇s apparel industry＇s current situation and to recommend some strategies for regaining business competitiveness in the apparel sector. This paper examines how apparel firms could develop competitive advantages in both local and global markets. It uses Porter＇s diamond and business value chain models as a basis of analysis for interpreting competitive factors within Kenya＇s apparel industry. In addition to extensive literature reviews, the paper provides in-depth overview of Kenya＇s apparel sector business dynamics and its relationships with local and global markets. Conclusions are drawn based on the analyses of Porter＇s theoretical models in relationship to Kenya＇s apparel industry business dynamics. Taking into account the global apparel business factors, recommendations are made on how the Kenya＇s apparel industry can regain business competitiveness.

Data from the Moderate resolution Imaging spectro-radiometer(MODIs)on-board the Earth Observing system Terra and Aqua satellites are processed using a land water mask to determine when an algorithm no longer needs to be run or when an algorithm needs to follow a different *** the fourth reprocessing(Collection 6(C6))the MODIs team replaced the 1 km water mask with a 500 m water mask for improved representation of the continental *** new water mask represents more small water bodies for an overall increase in water surface from 1%to 2%of the continental *** this is still a small fraction of the overall global surface area the increase is more dramatic in certain areas such as the Arctic and Boreal regions where there are dramatic increases in water surface area in the new *** products generated by the on-going C6 reprocessing using the new land water mask show significant impact in areas with high concentrations of change in the land water *** differences between the Collection 5(C5)and C6 water masks and the impact of these differences on the MOD04 aerosol product and the MOD11 land surface temperature product are shown.

Asian corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis （Guenee）, is a key corn pest in the Asian-Western Pacific countries. It overwinters as flail-grown larvae in plant stalks or in a spun-silk covering located in the plant debris in the temperate regions of China. supercooling point （sCP） and survival rate after low sub-zero temperature treatment were assessed for field-collected populations in the laboratory using a cool bath with a 1 ℃/min cooling rate until -40℃. Mean sCPs were varied among geographical populations, with a significant decline from -22.7℃ of Haikou, the multivoltine tropical population in the south, to -28.5℃ of Gongzhuling, the univoltine temperate population in the northeast of China. In addition, there was more than 1℃ difference in sCP between Gongzhuling univoltine and bivoltine populations that were from the same geographic origin. Mean sCPs of the Guangzhou population fluctuated over the year, with significantly lower sCPs in winter than in other seasons, which correlated with a significantly higher proportion of diapausing larvae in winter than in other seasons. Over 41% of overwintering larvae from the northeast population could withstand to be supercooled for a few minutes to the low sub-zero temperature of-40℃, but only 6.7% of their southern counterparts did so. The findings from this study suggest that O. furnacalis mostly takes advantage of freeze avoidance as diapausing larvae for overwintering in the southern region, whereas it exhibits freeze tolerance in diapause in the northeastern region.

Ising superconductivity,observed in Nbse2 and similar materials,has generated tremendous ***,attention was called to the possible role that spin fluctuations(sF)play in this phenomenon,in addition to the dominant electron–phonon coupling(EPC);the possibility of a predominantly triplet state was discussed and led to a conjecture of viable singlet–triplet Leggett ***,these hypotheses have not been put to a quantitative *** this paper,we report first principle calculations of the EPC and also estimate coupling with sF,including full momentum *** find that:(1)EPC is strongly anisotropic,largely coming from the K-K0 scattering,and therefore excludes triplet symmetry even as an excited state;(2)superconductivity is substantially weakened by sF,but anisotropy remains as above;and,(3)we do find the possibility of a Leggett mode,not in a singlet–triplet but in an s_(++)–s_(±)channel.

Image Analysis of the sugar-reduced Muffin Formulated with stevianna or Inulin as a sugar replacer

sugar replacement, and/or reduction, in cereal products is important in relation to consumer appeal for nutritionally balanced, calorie reduced, products. However, when using sugar replacers, product structure can be negatively altered. The effect on air cell development and microstructure with the use of stevianna, or inulin, as sugar replacer was evaluated using muffins as a model food. The total replacement of sugar using stevianna or inulin resulted in the development of non-uniform air cells leading to poor muffin microstructure. However, formulations involving partial sugar replacers gave similar air cell characteristics and hence microstructural characteristics, to that of the control sample. The results indicated that sugar is an important factor for the development of muffin microstructure and is difficult to replace completely.

Manipulative skill competency and health-related physical fitnes in elementary school students

Background：Improving motor skill competency and enhancing health-related physical fitnes are desired learning outcomes for school-aged *** motor skill competency and a healthy level of physical fitnes lay a foundation for being a physically active person across a *** purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between levels of manipulative skill competency and physical fitnes for elementary school boys and ***：In this study,565 fourth-grade students and their 9 physical education teachers were voluntary *** students were assessed in 4 basic specialized manipulative skills and 4 fitnes components during regular physical education *** were analyzed with descriptive statistics,univariate analyses,and multiple r2 liner regression ***：Boys were more proficien at the manipulative skills than girls,while girls had significan higher percentages for meeting the healthy fitnes zone for the fitnes tests than *** manipulative skills significant y predicted progressive aerobic cardiovascular endurance run（PACEr）,push-up,and trunk lifts tests at p〈0.05 level,but not curl-up test for both boys and *** and girls in the skill-competent group significant y outperformed their counterparts in the skill-incompetent group on PACEr,push-up,and trunk lifts tests at p〈0.05 level,with an exception of curl-up ***：The more competent in manipulative skills,the higher healthy level in cardiovascular endurance,upper-body muscular strength and endurance,and fl xibility the students *** manipulative skill competence and maintaining a healthy level of physical fitnes are 2 major desired learning outcomes for elementary school students to be able to achieve.

Clinical Efficacy and Adverse reactions of Photodynamic Therapy in the Treatment of Malignant skin Tumors and Precancerous skin Diseases

The purpose of the study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of malignant skin tumors and precancerous skin *** of all,100 patients with malignant skin tumor and pre-cancer skin disease admitted to our hospital from January 20,2018 to september 18,2018 were selected,and all of them adopted photodynamic *** 100 patients included 40 cases of basal cell carcinoma,14 cases of squamous cell carcinoma,7 cases of proliferative erythema,9 cases of Bowen’s disease and 39 cases of solar *** the 100 patients,77 cases had excellent curative effect,18 cases had good effect and 5 cases had poor effect,and the overall effective rate was 95%(95/100).After 6 months of follow-up,5 cases of basal cell carcinoma,2 cases of squamous cell carcinoma,0 cases of proliferative erythra,1 case of Bowen’s disease and 3 cases of solar keratosis recurred,with an overall recurrence rate of 14%(14/100).The adverse reactions of pruritus were 90%(90/100),81%(81/100),90%(90/100)and 3%(3/100).Therefore,the application of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of malignant skin tumors and precancerous skin diseases is not only effective,but also safe and not easy to relapse.
