Changes in Epipelic Diatom Diversity from the Savannah river Estuary

Littoral zones can be characterized with temporal exposure of algae to diurnal desiccation at low tides. Combinations of diverse freshwater, marine, and brackish diatoms dominate exposed mud samples. With enlargement of the delta of the Savannah river, Georgia and other anthropogenic influences, changes in the rich epipelic community will not be estimated accurately without baseline data. In the current study, mud samples were taken from the Savannah river estuary along with physicochemical characteristics every two months throughout 2011. Live algal communities were assessed in every sample and live to dead diatom proportions in the communities were calculated. Cleaned diatoms were analyzed following standard protocols. Community indices were compared between sampling events and with literature reports from similar habitats in the Southeastern USA diverse diatom community of 241 species was documented and 39 of those species should be described as new to science. Decrease in species richness and diversity was due to dominance of representatives of the genera Cymatosira and Minidiscus during the summer months.

This study aimed to determine the correlation between Big Five personality traits and Internet addiction among Filipinos living in China’s *** study employed the neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five-Factor Inventory（nEO-FFI）and the Internet Addiction Test（IAT）.There were 373 respondents,of which 192 were female（51.5%）,and 181 were male（48.5%）.The results showed that 68% of the population（n=254）exhibit Internet addiction,while 32% of the population（n=119）do not exhibit Internet *** coefficient correlation revealed significant values for neuroticism（r=0.128,α = 0.05）,Openness（r=-0.112,α = 0.05）,Agreeableness（r=-0.106,α = 0.05）and Conscientiousness（r=-0.147,α = 0.01）.Multiple regression analysis revealed that Conscientiousness is the only personality trait that could predict five percent（5%）of the variance in IAT scores（F=3.92,p=0.026）.

Authentication Key-Exchange Using SMS for Web-Based Platforms

One of the advantages of One Time Password (OTP) is that it’s free from brute force, replay, and shoulder attacks. The codes may originate from different entropy attributes and schemes, such as true random and digital random number generators. Businesses, organizations, and academic institutions have adopted OTP methods for credit card transaction confirmation, recalling forgotten passwords, and validating web portal accounts. This paper proposed a new method in authenticating login credentials using a 3 × 3 matrix and random system key as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) with an SMS-enabled feature. We used the 6-codes pseudorandom method and a 4-codes validation to allow mobile flexibility and ensure that the user has the required access. The page link and evaluation form are sent to students, IT professionals, and researchers. The results showed respondents are satisfied in terms of functionality, usability, efficiency, and reliability. The developed system could safeguard information, disallow unauthorized access, and impose acceptable data protection measures and minimal system requirements to use the system.

Ab initio valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group calculations for neutron-rich P,Cl,and K isotopes

Effect of herpesvirus infection on pancreatic duct cell secretion

AIM： To examine the effect of acute infection caused by herpesvirus （pseudorabies virus, PrV） on pancreatic ductal secretion. METHODS： The virulent Ba-DupGreen （BDG） and non- virulent Ka-rrEp01acgfp （KEG） genetically modified strains of PrV were used in this study and both of them contain the gene for green fluorescent protein （GFP）. Small intra/ interlobular ducts were infected with BDG virus （10^7 PFU/mL for 6 h） or with KEG virus （10^10 PFU/mL for 6 h）, while non-infected ducts were incubated only with the culture media. The ducts were then cultured for a further 18 h. The rate of HCO3 secretion [base efflux -λ（B）] was determined from the buffering capacity of the cells and the initial rate of intracellular acidification （1） after sudden blockage of basolateral base loaders with dihydro-4,4,- diisothiocyanatostilbene-2,2,-disulfonic acid （500 μmol/L） and amiloride （200 μmol/L）, and （2） after alkali loading the ducts by exposure to nH4Cl. All the experiments were performed in HCO3-buffered ringer solution at 37 ℃ （n = 5 ducts for each experimental condition）. Viral structural proteins were visualized by immunohistochemistry. Virallyencoded GFP and immunofluorescence signals were recorded by a confocal laser scanning microscope.rESULTS： The BDG virus infected the majority of accessible cells of the duct as judged by the appearance of GFP and viral anUgens in the ductal cells. KEG virus caused a similarly high efficiency of infection. After blockage of basolateral base loaders, BDG infection significantly elevated -λB-） 24 h after the infection, compared to the non-infected group. However, KEG infection did not modify -λB-）. After alkali loading the ducts, -λB-） was significantly elevated in the BDG group compared to the control group 24 h after the infection. As we found with the inhibitor stop method, no change was observed in the group KEG compared to the non-infected group. Mitigating n2O and nO Emissions from Direct-Seeded rice with nitrification Inhibitor and Urea Deep Placement

Soil-emitted nitrous oxide(n2O) and nitric oxide(nO) in crop production are harmful nitrogen(n) emissions that may contribute both directly and indirectly to global warming. Application of nitrification inhibitors, such as dicyandiamide(DCD), and urea deep placement(UDP), are considered effective approaches to reduce these emissions. This study investigated the effects of DCD and UDP, compared to urea and potassium nitrate, on emissions, nitrogen use efficiency and grain yields under direct-seeded rice. High-frequency measurements of n2O and nO emissions were conducted using the automated closed chamber method throughout the crop-growing season and during the ratoon crop. Both UDP and DCD were effective in reducing n2O emissions by 95% and 73%, respectively. The highest emission factor(1.53% of applied n) was observed in urea, while the lowest was in UDP(0.08%). Emission peaks were mainly associated with fertilization events and appeared within one to two weeks of fertilization. Those emission peaks contributed to 65%–98% of the total seasonal emissions. residual effects of fertilizer treatments on the n2O emissions from the ratoon crop were not significant;however, the urea treatment contributed 2%, whereas UDP contributed to 44% of the total annual emissions. On the other hand, cumulative nO emissions were not significant in either the rice or ratoon crops. UDP and DCD increased grain yields by 16%–19% and n recovery efficiency by 30%–40% over urea. The results suggested that the use of DCD and UDP could mitigate n2O emissions and increase grain yields and nitrogen use efficiency under direct-seeded rice condition.

Dynamic Instability of Straight Bars Subjected to Impulsive Axial Loads Using the DEM

An Adaptive Sequential replacement Method for Variable Selection in Linear regression Analysis

With the rapid development of DnA technologies, high throughput genomic data have become a powerful leverage to locate desirable genetic loci associated with traits of importance in various crop species. However, current genetic association mapping analyses are focused on identifying individual QTLs. This study aimed to identify a set of QTLs or genetic markers, which can capture genetic variability for marker-assisted selection. Selecting a set with k loci that can maximize genetic variation out of high throughput genomic data is a challenging issue. In this study, we proposed an adaptive sequential replacement (ASr) method, which is considered a variant of the sequential replacement (Sr) method. Through Monte Carlo simulation and comparing with four other selection methods: exhaustive, Sr method, forward, and backward methods we found that the ASr method sustains consistent and repeatable results comparable to the exhaustive method with much reduced computational intensity.
