Aims Woody plant-browser systems represent an understudied facet of *** subjected four genotypes of trembling aspen to artificial browsing,similar to that of a large mammalian herbivore,and applied deer saliva to clipped and unclipped trees to assess:(i)the effects of artificial browsing on aspen growth and phytochemistry of leaves and stems,(ii)genotypic variation in responses and(iii)potential alterations of responses by mammalian *** Potted aspen trees were grown outdoors on the University of Wisconsin-Madison *** experiment consisted of a fullycrossed,2×2×4 randomized complete block design,with two levels of artificial browsing(unclipped and clipped),two levels of saliva application(no saliva and saliva)and four aspen *** simulate ungulate browsing damage,we removed the upper 50%of the stem of half of the trees by pinching the stem with needle-nosed pliers and then separating it by *** half of the damaged trees,we immediately swabbed the wound with deer *** in the unclipped plus saliva treatment were swabbed with saliva at the 50%height *** assess the effects of clipping and saliva application,we harvested all trees after 2 months and measured various growth and chemical *** measurements included height,vertical growth,mass of leaves,stems and roots,leaf number and area and bud *** parameters included defensive,nutritional and structural components of both foliage and *** Findings Clipping affected most of the growth parameters measured,decreasing tree height,leaf,stem,root and total tree mass and leaf *** trees had greater vertical growth,more leaves and higher specific leaf area(SLA)than unclipped *** saliva had little to no effect on plant growth response to the clipping *** budset was delayed by clipping and varied among genotypes but not in response to saliva *** also affected most of the phytochemical variables measure

The Influence of Perivascular Adipose Tissue on Vascular Function in a rabbit Model

The recent acknowledgment of the paracrine role of perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) in vascular modulation has been supported by many studies investigating major arteries in several animal models and humans. The influence of PVAT on the functional activity of the vascular bed has been a matter of debate, whether it is an anticontractile effect with protective roles or a pro-contractile effect, investigations are underway to address this obscurity. In this investigation, we have studied the effects of vasoconstrictors, phenylephrine and noradrenaline, and vasorelaxants, carbachol and s-nitroso-n- acetylpenicillamine (SNAP), on subclavian and iliac rings with and without PVAT attached;and concentration-response curves were constructed accordingly. Levels of nitric oxide (NO) generated due to activation of the enzyme adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) by 5-Aminoimi- dazole-4-carboxamide-1-β-D-ribofuranoside (AICAR) were measured in sub- rdana;">clavian and iliac PVAT conditioned media. Additionally, Haematoxylin and Eosin staining was performed to analyze and compare the histological characteristics of both arteries. Management of stage Ⅳ rectal cancer: Palliative options

Approximately 30% of patients with rectal cancer present with metastatic disease. Many of these patients have symptoms of bleeding or obstruction. Several treatment options are available to deal with the various complications that may afflict these patients. Endorectal stenting, laser ablation, and operative resection are a few of the options available to the patient with a malignant large bowel obstruction. A thorough understanding of treatment options will ensure the patient is offered the most effective therapy with the least amount of associated morbidity. In this review, we describe various options for palliation of symptoms in patients with metastatic rectal cancer. Additionally, we briefly discuss treatment for asymptomatic patients with metastatic disease.

Infrastructure for China＇s Ecologically Balanced Civilization

China＇s green investment needs up to 2020 are ￥1.7 trillion-2.9 trillion CNY （$274 billion-468 billion USD） per year. Estimates of financing requirements are provided for multiple sectors, including susainable energy, infrastructure （including for environmental protection）, environmental remediation, industrial pollution control, energy and water efficiency, and green products. The context to China＇s green financing is discussed, covering urbanization, climate change, interactions between infrastructure sectors, and the transformation of industry. Much of the infrastructure financing will occur in cities, with a focus on equity, environmental protection, and quality of life under the National New-Type Urbanization Plan （2014-2020）. China has implemented many successful policies in the building sector, but there is still considerable scope for improvement in the energy efficiency of Chinese buildings. China is currently pursuing low-carbon growth strategies that are consistent with its overall environmental and quality-of-life objectives. Beyond 2020, China＇s future as an ecologically balanced civilization will rest on the implementation of a central infrastructure policy： China 2050 High renewable Energy Penetration Scenario and roadmap Study. As exemplified by the Circular Economy Development Strategy and Near-Term Action Plan, an essential part of China＇s green industrial transformation involves engineering systems that conserve materials, thereby reducing or even eliminating wastes. To better understand changes to China＇s economy under its green transformation and to unlock large potential sources of finance, it is necessary to undertake a fuller examination of all of China＇s infrastructure sectors, particularly freight rail infrastructure and ports. Large investments are required to clean up a legacy of environmental contamination of soil and groundwater and to reduce industrial pollution. Effect of Microwave Athermal and Thermal radiation in Wastewater Sludge Properties

Samples of thickened waste activated sludge （TWAS） at two different concentrations were exposed to microwave radiation. Some of the samples were not allowed to heat up, to study the athermal effect of microwaves. The samples exposed to microwaves where their temperature was allowed to increase showed a higher degree of chemical oxygen demand （COD）, protein and carbohydrate solubilization compared to a control. The size distribution of particles was changed after exposure of TWAS to microwaves. These results were also observed in the samples exposed to microwaves but kept at a constant temperature, suggesting the occurrence of a microwave athermal effect. Structure and magnetic properties of Cu-Ni alloy nanoparticles prepared by rapid microwave combustion method

Cu-Ni alloy nanoparticles were prepared by a microwave combustion method with the molar ratios of CU2＋ to Ni2＋ as 3：7, 4：6, 5：5, 6：4 and 7：3. The as-prepared samples were characterized by XrD, Hr-SEM, EDX and VSM. XrD and EDX analyses suggest the formation of pure alloy powders. The average crystallite sizes were found to be in the range of 21.56-33.25 nm. Hr-SEM images show the clustered/agglomerated particle-like morphology structure. VSM results reveal that for low Ni content （CusNis, Cu6Ni4 and Cu7Ni3）, the system shows paramagnetic behaviors, whereas for high Ni content （Cu3Ni7 and Cu4Ni6）, it becomes ferromagnetic.

Scaffolds based therapy for osteochondral lesions of the talus:A systematic review

AIM To clarify the effectiveness of scaffold-based therapy for osteochondral lesions of the talus(OLT). METHODS A systematic search of MEDLINE and EMBASE databases was performed during August 2016 and updated in January 2017. Included studies were evaluated with regard to the level of evidence(LOE) and quality of evidence(QOE) using the Modified Coleman Methodology Score. Variable reporting outcome data, clinical outcomes, and the percentage of patients who returned to sport at previous level were also evaluated. rESULTS Twenty-eight studies for a total of 897 ankles were included; 96% were either LOE Ⅲ or Ⅳ. Studies were designated as either of poor or fair quality. There were 30 treatment groups reporting six different scaffold repair techniques: 13 matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte transplantation(MACT), nine bone marrow derived cell transplantation(BMDCT), four autologous matrixinduced chondrogeneis(AMIC), and four studies of other techniques. The categories of general demographics(93%) and patient-reported outcome data(85%) were well reported. Study design(73%), imaging data(73%), clinical variables(49%), and patient history(30%) were also included. The weighted mean American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS) score at final follow-up was: 86.7 in MACT, 88.2 in BMDCT, and 82.3 in AMIC. Eight studies reported that a weighted mean of 68.3% ofpatients returned to a previous level of sport activity. CONCLUSION Scaffold-based therapy for OLT may produce favorable clinical outcomes, but low LOE, poor QOE, and variability of the data have confounded the effectiveness of this treatment.

The Effects of Information and Communication Technology on Health Service Delivery at Tafo Government Hospital

This study sought to find out the effects of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on health service delivery at Tafo Government Hospital. A descriptive survey design was used. Data were collected through the use of semi-structured questionnaire and administered to 50 respondents where stratified random sampling technique was used by ranking position as strata. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. From the findings, 56% of the respondents overwhelmingly agreed to the fact that the applications of ICT provide quicker medical diagnoses, reduced workload among users, improvement in patients’ waiting time and information accessibility. Nonetheless, 72% bemoaned lack of ICT infrastructure, poor ICT network concerns coupled with that insufficient knowledge on the use of ICT could impede the impact of ICT in quality service delivery. This could be deduced from the findings that ICT improves collaboration and clinical decision support in facilitating clinical work flow integration among nurses and other medical professionals. Moreover, the findings above affirm the fact that without electricity, ICT infrastructure, insufficient skills and technical knowledge in dealing with ICT innovations, it is impossible to successfully adopt ICT resources in health care delivery. The above findings show that the majority of healthcare professional generally had a positive attitude towards ICT prospects as they rated their skill as fairly well. The study recommends that the Ministry of Health plays a supporting role by investing in health care ICT.
