This paper analytically investigates the unsteady peristaltic transport of the Maxwell fluid in a finite tube. The walls of the tube are subjected to the contraction waves that do not cross the stationary boundaries. The analysis is carried out by a long wavelength approximation in the non-dimensional form. The expressions for the axial and radial velocities are derived. The pressures across the wavelength and the tubelength are also estimated. The reflux phenomenon is discussed, which culminates into the determination of the reflux limit. Mathematical formulations are physically interpreted for the flow of masticated food materials such as bread and white eggs in the oesophagus. It is revealed that the Maxwell fluids are favorable to flow in the oesophagus as compared with the Newtonian fluids. This endorses the experimental finding of Takahashi et al. （Takahashi, T., Ogoshi, H., Miyamoto, k., and Yao, M. L. Viscoelastic properties of commercial plain yoghurts and trial foods for swallowing disorders. rheology, 27, 169- 172 （1999））. It is further revealed that the relaxation time does not affect the shear stress and the reflux limit. It is found that the pressure peaks are identical in the integral case while different in the non-integral case.

Acicular goethite（a-Fe OOH） and worm-like maghamite（γ-Fe2O3） nanostructures have been prepared adopting a novel route, using Na2[Fe（HL）2（H2O）2] chelate complex in alkaline medium. It is found that concentration of hydrated Fe（III） ions increased with increasing temperature, which later play a key role in generation of different phases of iron oxide. Phase and morphology of the products are investigated using XrD, FTIr, SEM, and TEM analysis. Using UV–Vis spectra, various electronic transitions of goethite and maghamite particles are examined. Maghamite nanostructures exhibit superparamagnetic property at room temperature. On the basis of experimental observations and analytical data, growth mechanism of the nanostructures is discussed.

Baicalin is a natural bioactive compound derived from Scutellaria baicalensis,which is extensively used in traditional Chinese medicine.A literature survey demonstrated the broad spectrum of health benefits of baicalin such as antioxidant,anticancer,anti-inflammatory,antimicrobial,cardio-protective,hepatoprotective,renal protective,and neuroprotective *** is hydrolyzed to its metabolite baicalein by the action of gut microbiota,which is further reconverted to baicalin via phase 2 metabolism in the *** studies have suggested that baicalin exhibits therapeutic potential against several types of hepatic disorders including hepatic fibrosis,xenobiotic-induced liver injury,fatty liver disease,viral hepatitis,cholestasis,ulcerative colitis,hepatocellular and colorectal *** in vitro and in vivo examinations,it has been observed that baicalin showed a protective role against liver and gut-associated abnormalities by modifying several signaling pathways such as nuclear factor-kappa B,transforming growth factor beta 1/SMAD3,sirtuin 1,p38/mitogen-activated protein kinase/Janus kinase,and calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinaseβ/adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase/acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase ***,baicalin also regulates the expression of fibrotic genes such as smooth muscle actin,connective tissue growth factor,β-catenin,and inflammatory cytokines such as interferon gamma,interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-alpha,and IL-1β,and attenuates the production of apoptotic proteins such as caspase-3,caspase-9 and B-cell lymphoma ***,due to its low solubility and poor bioavailability,widespread therapeutic applications of baicalin still remain a *** review summarized the hepatic and gastrointestinal protective attributes of baicalin with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms that regulate the interaction of baicalin with the gut microbiota.

The Chlorella microalgae were mixotrophically cultivated in an unsterilized and unfikered raw foodprocessing industrial wastewater. Both inorganic carbon （CO2-air） and organic carbon （wastewater） were provided simultaneously for microalgae growth. The aim of the study is to find out the utilization rates of total organic carbon （TOC） and chemical oxygen demand （COD） under mixotrophic conditions for a given waste water. About 90% reduction in TOC and COD were obtained for all dilutions of wastewater. Over 60% of nitrate and 40% of phosphate were consumed by microalgae from concentrated raw wastewater. This study shows that microalgae can use both organic and inorganic sources of carbon in more or less quantity under mixotrophic conditions. The growth of microalgae in food-processing industrial wastewater with all studied dilution factors, viz. zero （raw）, 1.6 （dilution A）, and 5 （dilution B） suggests that the freshwater requirement could be reduced substantially （20%-60%）. The degradation kinetics also suggests that the microalgae cultivation on a high COD wastewater is feasible and scalable.

A systematic method to construct the workability diagram for powder metallurgy （P/M） materials has been proposed. Preforms of Fe-0.8 %C, Fe-0.8% C-1% Mo and Fe-0.8 % C 2 % Mo were prepared to the relative den-sity of 0.86 with two different geometries through primary operations of P/M processes. Each sintered preform was cold upset forged with incremental compressive loading of 0.04 MN under three different lubricant conditions till a visible crack appeared at the free surface. Oyane＇s fracture criterion was used to develop a theory to study P/M prod-ucts. The least square method was used to determine the constants in fracture criteria and these equations were even- tually used to construct workability diagram. It is found that the proposed method was well in agreement with the experimental results.

Laser transformation hardening(LTH)of unalloyed titanium of 1.6 mm-thick sheet,nearer to ASTM Grade 3 of chemical composition was investigated using 2 kW CW Nd:YAG *** effects of laser power(750-1 250 W),scanning speed(1 000-3 000 mm/min)and focal point position(from-10 to-30 mm)on the heat input,and hardened-bead geometry(*** bead width(HBW),hardened depth(HD)and angle of entry of hardened bead profile with the surface(AEHB))were investigated using response surface methodology(rSM).The experimental plan is based on Box-Behnken design matrix *** and quadratic polynomial equations for predicting the heat input and the hardened bead geometry were *** results indicate that the proposed models predict the responses adequately within the limits of hardening parameters being *** is suggested that regression equations can be used to find optimum hardening conditions for desired criteria.

The present study proposes an index to assess the potential for adaptation to climate change for households in the mountainous regions. The index provides a realistic approach to recognize social and natural factors which contribute to successful adaptation and addresses several household functions, such as social networking, livelihood strategy, adjustment strategies, resource availability and accessibility. The proposed Adaptation Capability Index （ACI） is analytically defined, mathematically formulated and field tested on mountainous households in urban and semi-urban regions of the Uttarakhand Himalaya in India. To gather data on the topic relevant to the ACI, a household scale questionnaire was developed and administered to 12o heads of households through face-to-face interviews. The results highlight higher adaptive capability of urban households and low adaptation capacity of rural households due to poor farm productivity, low accessibility and availability of resources and technological input. Future programs and policies must include and implement regulations to remedy attributive factors responsible for higher adaptation. This paper may be applicable to other mountainous regions and may provide insights for effective adaptation strategies to climate change.
