recently,the metal ion cross-linked hydrogels have gained enormous interest because of its excellent properties like self-healing,fast recovery,biocompatibility and high mechanical properties combined with multi-stimuli *** this review article,we have summarized the recent trends in the development of metal ion cross-linked hydrogels for tissue engineering and biomedical applications.A number of metal ions and their contribution in the synthesis of various cross-linked hydrogels are discussed with respect to their crosslinking mechanisms,compositions,physio-chemical and biological properties.A special emphasis has been given to ferric(Fe^(3+))ion cross-linked hydrogels and their different combinations owing to their numerous researches reported in the recent past with exceptional *** application of these metal ion based hydrogels in biomedical applications including tissue engineering,sensing,wound healing,drug delivery and as tissue adhesive and tissue sealants are reviewed with specific ***,the application of these metal ion cross-linked hydrogels as inks in 3 D printing is explained in a separate ***,the possible toxic effects of the different metal ions and their effects have been *** directions and comprehensive applications of the hydrogels are highlighted.

The foraging technique and prey-handling time of the black-necked stork(Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus)was stud-ied in Dudhwa National Park,India,from January 1996 to June *** habitat in which the storks foraged played an important role in selecting a particular technique to procure ***-necked storks mostly foraged using a tactile technique(>90%),but sometimes foraged *** the water level was estimated to be less than 60 cm,the storks foraged using tactile *** was no difference in the feeding techniques of male and female *** attempt rates varied between the sexes in summer(May)and during late winter(February)in *** search time for prey increased when the water level was high and fish were widely *** in water level resulted in concentration of fish in certain areas and this contributed to high fish-catching rates by black-necked *** had a higher success rate of fish capture than ***,females captured longer fish than ***-handling time increased in both sexes as fish length *** 4–6 cm long were most frequently taken by the foraging storks.

The purpose of the study is to obtain a cement grout with improved performance. The grout mixes of the present study contain cement, ultra-fine slag （UFS）, super plasticizer and water. Properties like flowability, bleeding, compressive strength and shrinkage of cement grouts have been studied. rheological parameters were also studied in order to explain the grout workability. The results show that, cement replacement with slag in grouts could reduce bleeding substantially without affecting the workability of the mixes. Introduction of slag enhanced the compressive strength and reduced shrinkage reasonably. Ultra-fine slag can be used as a supplementary cementitious material in cementitious grouts in order to improve the grout behavior.

Pennellid copepod Peniculus fistula fistula(Nordmann, 1832)(Synonym: Peniculus fistula Nordmann, 1832,Aphia ID: 745880), a worldwide distributed species, has been recovered from at least 19 teleost families. The present paper reports for the first time from the Malabar coast(South India), not only the existence of a new host family, Clupeidae, hosting this parasitic copepod species(P. fistula fistula) but also their season dependent hosting. A total of 123 marine fish species, belonging to 77 genera and 38 families surveyed along the Malabar coast, only the clupeid, Anadontostoma chacunda(Hamilton, 1822) was shown to be infected by this copepod species;all the recovered(copepod) parasites were invariably found attached at the mid portion of the caudal fin lobes and lying parallel to the host body, indicating the strict site-specific parasitisation. There is a discrete seasonality in the prevalence(Pring the period from September to May with relatively high prevalence during winter months(November–January). During the monsoon months(June–August), the host fish was found completely free from Peniculus infection. Interestingly, all the 229 recovered specimens(P. fistula fistula) were gravid females having paired uniserrate egg sacs with the length more than its own body length.

We present the results of eyestalk extirpation experiments performed on the fiddler crab, Uca triangularis at seasons of molting and reproduction, with a view to have a better understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of these two highly energy-demanding processes. Bilateral eyestalk ablation resulted in precocious acceleration of both molting and reproduction, irrespective of the season at which each experiment was conducted. The rate of accelerated ovarian growth, however, was maximum if the eyestalk ablation was conducted during August-January, the breeding season in the wild, or in February- May （molting-reproductive season）, wherein a section of the wild population would be engaged in molting and another section in breeding. The highest degree of precocious molt acceleration, on the other hand, was obtained during June-July when the population was primarily engaged in molting, but with no reproductive activity. The precocious oocyte maturation （due to de-eyestalking） was minimal in June--July. Significantly, the eyestalk ablation also resulted in a dramatic increase in the hemolymph ecdysteroid titer, revealing that a high ecdysteroid titer would have no restraining influence on vitellogenesis. No spawning was, however, observed among de-eyestalked females, even though their final oocyte size surpassed the size of the normal mature oocytes, implying that spawning is not exclusively under the control of eyestalk hormones. A comparative study performed on the viteUine components of the experimentals and the controls revealed that the precociously incorporated yolk under eyestalk ablation was biochemically impoverished. These results indicate that throughout the annual cycle, both the somatic and the reproductive growth of U. triangularis are under the influence of inhibitory principles from the eyestalks. Phase pure AlP O4 with the AlP O4-18(AEI) structure was synthesised using N,N- diisopropylethylamine as a template. Using a combination of X-ray powder diffraction and computational methods, the location and orientation of the N,N-diisopropylethylamine molecules inside the cages of the AEI structure were determined. Thermogravimetric analysis confirmed that the number of template molecules per unit cell was consistent with the diffraction study. We unequivocally show that only one template molecule is present in each cage of the crystalline AEI material. Our work demonstrates that a combined approach enables accurate structure resolution of such complex materials.

Elucidation of thermally induced internal porosity in zinc oxide nanorods

In situ electron microscopy, tomography, photoluminescence, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy were utilized to monitor and explain the formation and growth of internal pores within ZnO nanorods. Careful examination using electron microscopy and tomography indicate that nanosized intemal pores start appearing within the individual solution-grown ZnO nanorods upon exposure to 200 ℃. The pore volume growth rate is proportional to the heat treatment time, indicating that the process is diffusion controlled, akin to a reverse Ostwald ripening-like process. A manageable pore growth rate of 1.4-4.4 nm^3·min^-1 was observed at 540 ℃, suggesting that the effective control over internal porosity can be achieved by carefully controlling the heat-treatment profile. Mechanistic studies using X-ray absorption spectroscopy indicated that the pore formation is linked to the significant reduction of the number of zinc vacancies after heat treatment. An optimum condition exists where most of the native surface defects are removed, while the bulk defects are contained within the internal pores. It is also demonstrated that the internal porosity can be exploited to improve the visible light absorption of ZnO. A combination of the lower defect density and improved light absorption of the heat-treated ZnO films thus lead to an increase in the photo- electrochemical response of more than 20× compared to that of the as-grown ZnO.
