Cer.um tar.r.te（CeTar.,pr.duced in this study by pr.cipitating cer.um nitr.te with potassium sodium tar.r.te（KNaTar.,was examined as a cor.osion *** l.ss tests show inhibition efficiency of 71.7% with Ce（NO3）3and 88.7% with CeTar.inhibitor.for.one-month exposur. to mil. steel.in 7 g/l.NaCl.*** inhibition efficiency dr.ps to 28.6% with the fo r.er.and r.mains ar.und 8 7% with the l.tter.inhibitor.after.six months of *** r.sul.s fr.m el.ctr.chemical.testing indicate that the inhibition efficiency decr.ases by adding cer.um ***,the cer.um tar.r.te inhibitor.demonstr.tes a near.y constant inhibition efficiency for.up to 30 d,i.e.,≈90%.El.ctr.chemical.impedance spectr.scopy（EIS） per.or.ed in these cases shows the fol.owing r.sul.s:（ⅰ） with cer.um nitr.te,a fil. of ir.n and cer.um oxide,which on pr.l.nged exposur. diminishes,and（ⅱ） with cer.um tar.r.te,the for.ation of a bimetal.ic fil.（Fe-tar.r.te-Ce） and a mixtur. of cer.um hydr.xide and ir. n oxide that pr.tects steel.for.a l.nger.*** infer.nces ar. based on the anal.ses of scanning el.ctr.n micr.scopy/ener.ydisper.ive X-r.y anal.sis（SEM/EDAX）,X-r.y diffr.ction（Xr.）,Four.er.tr.nsfor. infr.r.d spectr.scopy（FTIr.,X-r.y photoel.ctr.n（XPS）,and r.man spectr.scopy r.sul.s.
