Enhanced degradation of refractory organics in ORR-EO system with a blue TiO_(2)nanotube array modified Ti-based Ni-Sb co-doped SnO_(2)anode

Recently,a novel 2-electron oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)based electro-oxidation(EO)system was developed,which utilizes a H_(2)O_(2)generation cathode instead of H_(2)evolution cathode.A Ti-based Ni-Sb co-doped SnO_(2)(Ti/NATO)anode was selected for efficient degradation of refractory organics and O_(3)*** synergistic reaction of O3/H_(2)O_(2)further accelerated the generation of hydroxyl radicals(·OH)in the ORR-EO ***,the catalytic activity and long-term effectiveness of the Ti/NATO anode limited the large-scale application of the ORR-EO *** this study,a blue TiO_(2)nanotube array(blue-TiO_(2)-NTA)inter-layer was introduced into the fabrication process between the Ti substrate and NATO catalyst *** to the Ti/NATO anode,the Ti/blue-TiO_(2)-NTA/NATO anode achieved higher efficiency of organic removal and O_(3)***,the accelerated lifetime of the Ti/blue-TiO_(2)-NTA/NATO anode was increased by 7 times compared to the Ti/NATO *** combined with CNTs-C/PTFE air cathode in ORR-EO system,all anodic oxidation and O_(3)/H_(2)O_(2)processes achieved higher•OH *** 92%of TOC in leachate bio-effluent was effectively eliminated with a relatively low energy cost of 45 kWh/t.

Poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA)/polystyrene(PS)/carbon black(CB)and poly(ethyl methacrylate)(PEMA)/PS/CB ternary composite films were obtained using solution casting technique to investigate double percolation *** both PMMA/PS/CB and PEMA/PS/CB ternary composite films,the CB particles prefer to locate into PS phase based on the results of calculating wetting coefficient,which is also confirmed by SEM *** conductivity of the films was investigated,and the percolation threshold(￠c)of both ternary composite films with different polymer blend ratios was determined by fitting the McLachlan GEM *** of PMMA/PS/CB ternary composite films showed a typical double percolation ***,due to the double emulsion structure of PEMA/PS polymer blends,the PEMA/PS/CB ternary composite films(PEMA/PS=50/50)showed a higher￠c,even CB only located in PS phase,which conflicts with the double percolation effect.A schematic diagram combined with SEM images was proposed to explain this phenomenon.

Amorphous A1MgB thin films were synthesized via a combinatorial sputtering approach. The properties of AIMgB films with the varying deposition temperature was investigated. The deposition temperature was found to dominate the hardness of the amorphous asdeposited film. The hardness increases with increasing deposition tempera ture and may even exceed that of crystalline A1MgB14 mate rial. The high hardness may be attributed to the existence of randomly distributed B 12 icosahedra structure. Therefore, the thin film that was deposited on cemented carbide shows well cutting performances in turning Ti alloy bar. At the same time, an appropriate method of pretreatment is the key to ensure the coating tool with the excellent adhesion by impact fracture test.

Prediction of methane emissions during the extraction of close-to-roof layer of a seam of large thickness

Prediction of methane emissions at the stage of longwall planning constitutes the basis for the determination of the appropriate method and parameters of ventilation and selection of prevention means including the methane drainage technol- ogy. The growth of methane saturation of coal seams with the extraction depth, with simultaneously increasing output concen- tration, contributes to the increase of the quantity of methane emitted into longwall areas. The subject matter of the article has been directed at the predicted quantity of methane emissions into planned longwalls with roof caving in the layer of seams adjacent to the roof of large thickness. The performed prognostic calculations of methane emissions into the longwall working were referred to two sources, i.e. methane liberated during coal mining by means of a cutter-loader and methane originating from the degasification of the floor layer destressed by the longwall conducted in the close-to-roof layer. The calculations of predictions allow to refer to the planned longwall, on account of the emitting methane, with possible and safe output quantity. Planning of extraction in the close-to-roof layer of a seam of large thickness with roof caving is especially important in con- ditions of increasing methane saturation with the depth of deposition and should be preceded by a prognostic analysis for de- termining the extraction possibilities of the planned longwall.

Dry-cured meat products are considerably popular around the world due to unique *** is one of the enzymatic reactions from which flavor substances are derived,which is affected by endogenous *** purpose aimed to reveal the potential relationship between endogenous proteases and key flavor substances in dry-cured pork coppa in this *** dynamic changes of endogenous proteases activity,free amino acids,and volatiles during dry-cured pork coppa processing were *** results showed that 5 kinds of free amino acids,Glu,Lys,Val,Ala,and Leu,were identified as significant contributors to ***,key volatiles,such as hexanal,nonanal,octanal,benzaldehyde,3-methyl butanoic acid,2-methyl propanoic acid,and ethyl octanoate,greatly contributed to the flavor characteristics of dry-cured pork *** partial correlation analysis was performed to better elucidate the relationship among *** results revealed that close relationship between endogenous proteases and key *** not only significantly affected the accumulation of key active-amino acids,but also affected the accumulation of ethyl octanoate,2,3-pentanedione,and 2,3-octanedione by regulating the accumulation of octanoic acid and *** addition,cathepsin B and D,DPP II,DPP IV and RAP notably affected accumulation of hexanal.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a complex eye disorder and is the leading cause of incurable blindness worldwide in the elderly. Clinically, AMD initially affects the central area of retina known as the macula and it is classified as early stage to late stage (advanced AMD). The advanced AMD is classified into the nonexudative or atrophic form (dry AMD) and the exudative or neovascular form (wet AMD). More severe vision loss is typically associated with the wet form. Multiple genetic factors, lipid metabolism, oxidative stress and aging, play a role in the etiology of AMD. Dysregulation in genetic to AMD is established to 46%–71% of disease contribution, with CFH and ARMS2/HTRA1 to be the two most notable risk loci among the 103 identified AMD associated loci so far. Chronic cigarette smoking is the most proven consistently risk living habits for AMD. Deep learning algorithm has been developed based on image recognition to distinguish wet AMD and normal macula with high accuracy. Currently, anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy is highly effective at treating wet AMD. Several new generation AMD drugs and iPSC-derived RPE cell therapy are in the clinical trial stage and are promising to improve AMD treatment in the near future.

Two-stage Source Reconstruction Algorithm for Bioluminescence Tomography Using Hybrid FEM

A two-stage source reconstruction algorithm for bioluminescence tomography (BLT) is developed using hybrid finite element method (FEM). The proposed algorithm takes full advantages of linear and quadratic FEMs, which can be used to localize and quantify bioluminescent source accurately. In the first stage, a large permissible region is roughly determined and then iteratively evolved to reduce matrix dimension using efficient linear FEM. In the final stage, high-convergence quadratic FEM is applied to improve reconstruction result. Both numerical simulation and physical experiment are performed to evaluate the proposed algorithm. The relevant results demonstrate that quantitative reconstruction can be well achieved in terms of computation efficiency, source position, power density, and total power when compared with previous studies.

In this contribution, we present an all-optical quantitative framework for bioluminescence tomography with non-contact measurement. The framework is comprised of four indispensable steps： extraction of the geometrical structures of the subject, light flux reconstruction on arbitrary surface, calibration and quantification of the surface light flux and internal bioluminescence reconstruction. In particular, the geometrical structures are retrieved using a completely optical method and captured under identical viewing conditions with the bioluminescent images. As a result, the proposed framework avoids the utilization of computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging to provide the geometrical structures. On the basis of experimental measurements, we evaluate the performance of the proposed all-optical quantitative framework using a mouse shaped phantom. Preliminary result reveals the potential and feasibility of the proposed framework for bioluminescence tomography.

Yeasts are one of the predominant microbial groups in fermented *** this study,yeast communities of Chinese Dong fermented pork(Nanx Wudl)were investigated and the technological properties of 73 yeast isolates were *** culture-dependent and high-throughput sequencing methods,the main yeast species identified included Pichia membranifaciens,Kazachstania bulderi,Millerozyma farinosa,Candida zeylanoides,Kazachstania exigua,Candida parapsilosis and Saccharomyces *** these yeasts,***,***,*** and *** were detected in fermented meats for the first time.A total of 73 yeast isolates was investigated for their lipolytic and proteolytic *** yeast species showed lipolytic activity,while proteolytic activity against meat protein was only detected in *** of aroma-producing potential was performed in a model simulating fermented sausage *** of yeast strains increased volatiles production,especially esters and *** highest ester production was observed in *** Y70 strain,followed by *** Y12 and *** *** Y10 and *** Y70 were the highest producers of benzeneethanol and *** Y70 with its highest production of branched alcohols and esters could be a promising candidate as aroma enhancer in the manufacture of fermented sausages.
