Parkinson's disease(PD)is the most common neurodegenerative movement *** is featured by abnormal alphα-synuclein(α-syn)aggregation in dopaminergic neurons in the substantia ***(autophagy)is an evolutionarily conserved cellular process for degradation of cellular contents,including protein aggregates,to maintain cellular *** B(Cory B),a natural alkaloid isolated from Uncaria rhynchophylla(Miq.)Jacks.,has been reported to promote the clearance ofα-syn in cell models by inducing ***,the molecular mechanism by which Cory B induces autophagy is not known,and theα-syn-lowering activity of Cory B has not been verified in animal ***,we report that Cory B enhanced the activity of Beclin 1/VPS34 complex and increased autophagy by promoting the interaction between Beclin 1 and HMGB1/*** of HMGB1/2 impaired Cory B-induced *** showed for the first time that,similar to HMGB1,HMGB2 is also required for autophagy and depletion of HMGB2 decreased autophagy levels and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinaseⅢactivity both under basal and stimulated *** applying cellular thermal shift assay,surface plasmon resonance,and molecular docking,we confirmed that Cory B directly binds to HMGB1/2 near the C106 ***,in vivo studies with a wild-typeα-syn transgenic drosophila model of PD and an A53Tα-syn transgenic mouse model of PD,Cory B enhanced autophagy,promotedα-syn clearance and improved behavioral *** together,the results of this study reveal that Cory B enhances phosphatidylinositol 3-kinaseⅢactivity/autophagy by binding to HMGB1/2 and that this enhancement is neuroprotective against PD.

800 Gbit/s transmission over 1 km single-mode fiber using a four-channel silicon photonic transmitter

We demonstrate the optical transmission of an 800 Gbit/s(4×200 Gbit/s)pulse amplitude modulation-4(PAM-4)signal and a 480 Gbit/s(4×120 Gbit/s)on–off-keying(OOK)signal by using a high-bandwidth(BW)silicon photonic(SiP)transmitter with the aid of digital signal processing(DSP).In this transmitter,a four-channel SiP modulator chip is co-packaged with a four-channel driver chip,with a measured 3 dB BW of 40 *** is applied in both the transmitter and receiver sides for pre-/post-compensation and bit error rate(BER)***-to-back(B2B)BERs of the PAM-4 signal and OOK signal are first measured for each channel of the transmitter with respect to a variety of data *** BER performance of four channels shows good uniformity of the transmitter between different *** BER penalty of the PAM-4 and OOK signals for 500 m and 1 km standard single-mode fiber(SSMF)transmission is then experimentally tested by using one channel of the *** a 200 Gbit/s PAM-4 signal,the BER is below the hard-decision forward error correction(HD-FEC)threshold for B2B and below the soft-decision FEC(SD-FEC)threshold after 1 km *** a 120 Gbit/s OOK signal,the BER is below SD-FEC threshold for *** 500 m and 1 km transmission,the data rate of the OOK signal shrinks to 119 Gbit/s and 118 Gbit/s with the SD-FEC threshold,***,the 800 Gbit/s PAM-4 signal with 1 km transmission is achieved with the BER of all four channels below the SD-FEC threshold.

Friction between Strongly Compressed Polymer Brushes

We present the results of molecular dynamics simulations of steady shear between a pair of neutral polymer brushes,as well as a pair of charged polymer brushes in the strongly compressed *** results of the molecular dynamic simulations of neutral and polyelectrolyte brushes in implicit solvent including normal forces,shear forces,viscosities and friction coefficients as a function of separation between brushes,are presented in the *** comparison of the simulation results of neutral and charged brushes shows that the charged brushes is in the quasi-neutral regime,and the dependence of viscosity on the separation distance show the similar power law of neutral *** simulation results confirm that the implicit solvent simulations of polyelectrolyte brushes that ignore hydrodynamics interaction are in agreement with the scaling predictions qualitatively because of screening of hydrodynamic interaction and long-range electrostatic interactions on the correlation length *** of neutral and charged brushes show the lubrication properties that the friction coefficient decreases with the separation decreases at enough large ***,a maximum of friction coefficients is observed for polyelectrolyte brushes,which is in contrast to the neutral brushes with monotonical dependence.

The tacticity of vinyl polymers is a key factor affecting the properties of ***,organic Brønsted acids have been demonstrated as effective catalysts for the development of highly stereoselective cationic reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer(RAFT)polymerizations of vinyl ethers,in which the use of RAFT agents could allow the control the molecular weight and tacticity of polymer products ***,the effect of RAFT agents on the tacticity-regulation remains elusive and lacks of *** this study,we synthesized four types of RAFT agents and evaluated their influence in the stereoselective cationic polymerization of isobutyl vinyl ether in the presence of PADI as a Brønsted acid catalyst,which unveils that the Z group of RAFT agents could not only affect the polydispersity of the products,but also exert a profound effect on the *** extensive screening of the RAFT agents,high stereoregularity(isotacticity,90%m)was obtained when using dithiocarbonate ester-type RAFT agents with a benzyloxy Z group.

Optimization of ferroelectricity and endurance of hafnium zirconium oxide thin films by controlling element inhomogeneity

Ferroelectric thin films based on HfO_(2) have garnered increasing attention worldwide,primarily due to their remarkable compatibility with silicon and scalability,in contrast to traditional perovskite-structured ferroelectric ***,significant challenges remain in their widespread commercial utilization,particularly concerning their notable wake-up effect and limited *** address these challenges,we propose a novel strategy involving the inhomogeneous distribution of Hf/Zr elements within thin films and explore its effects on the ferroelectricity and endurance of Hf_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_(2) thin *** techniques such as grazing incidence X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,and piezoresponse force microscopy,we investigated the structural characteristics and domain switching behaviors of these *** experimental results indicate that the inhomogeneous distribution of Hf/Zr contributes to improving the frequency stability and endurance while maintaining a large remnant polarization in Hf_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_(2) ferroelectric thin *** adjusting the distribution of Zr/Hf within the Hf_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_(2) thin films,significant enhancements in the remnant polarization(2P_(r)>35μC/cm2)and endurance(>109)along with a reduced coercive voltage can be ***,the fabricated ferroelectric thin films also exhibit high dielectric tunability(≥26%)under a low operating voltage of 2.5 V,whether in the wake-up state or *** study offers a promising approach to optimize both the ferroelectricity and endurance of HfO_(2)-based thin films.

Interface property of dissimilar Ti-6Al-4V/AA1050 composite laminate made by non-equal channel lateral co-extrusion and heat treatment

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of processing parameters and subsequent heat treatments on the microstructures and bonding strengths of Ti-6Al-4V/AA1050 laminations formed via a non-equal channel lateral co-extrusion *** microstructural evolution and growth mechanism in the diffusion layer were discussed further to optimize the bonding quality by appropriately adjusting process *** electron microscopes(SEM),energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS),and X-ray diffraction(XRD)were used to characterize interfacial diffusion *** shear test was used to determine the mechanical properties of the interfacial diffusion *** experimental results indicate that it is possible to co-extrusion Ti-6Al-4V/AA1050 compound profiles using non-equal channel lateral *** heat treatment processes affect the thickness of the diffusion *** the temperature and time of heat treatment increase,the thickness of the reaction layers increases ***,the shear strength of the Ti-6Al-4V/AA1050 composite interface is proportional to the diffusion layer *** is observed that a medium interface thickness results in superior mechanical performance when compared to neither a greater nor a lesser interface *** characterization of all heat treatments reveals that the only intermetallic compound observed in the diffusion layers is TiAl_(3).Due to the inter-diffusion of Ti and Al atoms,the TiAl_(3) layer grows primarily at AA1050/TiAl_(3) interfaces.

Synergistic extraction and separation of thorium from rare earths in chloride media using mixture of Cextrant 230 and Cyanex 923

In order to lower the usage of expensive Cyanex 923 and increase the extraction capacity of the system of Cextrant 230,the synergistic extraction of thorium from chloride media by a mixture of Cextrant 230 and Cyanex 923 was *** maximum synergistic enhancement coefficient(R)of 1.53 is obtained at 1:1 molar ratio of Cextrant 230/Cyanex *** syne rgistic extracted species of Th^(4+)is determined as ThCl_(4)·2Cextrant 230·Cyanex *** synergistic extraction of Th^(4+)is an entropy-driven exothermic *** loading capacity of 0.60 mol/L mixed extractant for thorium is about 17.10 g/L(calculated as ThO_(2)),and the loaded thorium in the organic phase can be effectively stripped by distilled *** comparison,rare earth cations are barely extracted under the similar conditions,suggesting that the mixtures can be applied to separate thorium from rare earths.A cascade extraction process was developed based on the synergistic extraction system to separate thorium from the hydrochloric acid leaching of *** content of thorium in the leaching solution decreases obviously from 19.90 mg/L to1.4μg/L by 3 stages of extraction,which is superior to sole Cextrant 230 or Cyanex *** introduction of Cextrant 230 into the extraction system not only lowers the usage of Cyanex 923 but also enhances the selective extraction of thorium at low acidity,implying that the synergistic extraction system can selectively extract thorium more efficiently and economically than the sole systems.

Thermodynamic property of sandwich cylindrical shell structure with metallic wire mesh:Numerical modeling and experimental analysis

As a new addition to lightweight composite structures,the sandwich cylindrical shell with a metallic wire mesh core has emerged as a promising solution for thermodynamic performance analysis at elevated *** intricate interwoven cellular formations within the metallic wire mesh pose difficulties for thermo-mechanical modeling and property ***,the constitutive models employed to characterize hysteresis phenomena were presented,comprising isotropic elasticity,Bergstrom-Boyce model,Ogden hyper-elasticity,and parameter identification through mechanical examinations at varying ***,the finite element modeling of cylindrical shell structures was determined for modal and steady-state dynamic ***,the experimental procedures were carried out,including the preparation of the sandwich cylindrical shell and the dynamic testing *** first-order natural frequency of the cylindrical shell structure is close to the resonance frequency of the dynamic test results,with a maximum error of 6.5%,demonstrating the accuracy of the simulation *** compared to the solid-core cylindrical shell,the average insertion loss of the sandwich cylindrical shell structure within the frequency range of 10–1000 Hz at room temperature is up to 11.09 ***,at elevated temperatures,the average insertion loss of the sandwich cylindrical shell decreases but fluctuates as the temperature changes.

An indicator model for assessing community resilience to the COVID-19 pandemic and its validation: A case study in Hong Kong

The COVID-19 outbreak had a significant negative impact on the world,and the fifth wave of COVID-19 in Hong Kong brought a considerable shock to Chinese *** is a growing call for more resilient ***,empirical evidence and validation of modeling studies of resilience indicators for urban community responses to the COVID-19 pandemic still need to be *** this study,a resilience assessment indicator model comprising 4 subsystems,7 indicators,and 12 variables was developed to assess the resilience of Hong Kong communities in response to COVID-19(i.e.,Resilience Index).Furthermore,this study utilized regression models such as geographically weighted regression(GWR)and multiscale GWR(MGWR)to validate the resilience model proposed in this study at the model and variable *** the regression model,the Resilience Index and the individual variables in the resilience model are explanatory variables,and the outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic(confirmed cases,confirmation rate,discharged cases,discharge rate)are dependent *** results showed that:(i)the resilience of Hong Kong communities to the COvID-19 pandemic was not strong in general and showed some clustered spatial distribution characteristics;(i)the validation results at the model level showed that the Resilience Index did not explain the consequences of the COvID-19 pandemic to a high degree;(ii)the validation results at the variable level showed that the MGWR model was the best at identifying the relationships between explanatory variables and the dependent variable;and(iv)compared with the model-level assessment results,the variable-level assessment explained the consequences of the COvID-19 pandemic better than the model level assessment *** above analysis and the spatial distribution maps of the resilience variables can provide empirically based and targeted insights for policymakers.
