Investigation on subsurface vortices within a closed pump intake under different pressure conditions

An experimental study to investigate various features of subsurface vortices and their evolutions inside a closed pump intake under different pressure conditions at free surface,and to analyze the influence of a pipe bell with different mean axial velocities at the same water level on flow patterns is *** all cases,three different flow regimes are closely observed:various side-wall attached,back-wall attached and submerged vortices structures,and their evolutions are subject to the free-surface pressure for a critical flow rate,the number and strength of all these vortex rise as the absolute value of the pressure increases for a higher flow rate,for a lower flow rate,whether the side-wall vortices occur or not is related closely to the pressure magnitude,and there are no vortices for lower absolute pressure values,the number and the strength of the side-wall vortices increase as the absolute pressure values ***,based on statistical analyses,the side-wall vortex probability on the right side along the stream-wise direction is much higher than that on the opposite side for all operation cases,particularly single vortex probability,and the back-wall vortex probabilities are quite higher with values of more than 90%,meanwhile,the multi-vortices probability is much higher than that of the *** captured vortices have been qualitatively classified into different“vortex zones”:no vortex zones and vortex zones including transition,single-and *** Reynolds number and the absolute value pressure are the most important parameters which influence the existence and the number of these vortices,and the increase of the two parameters reduces the no vortex transition zone and causes bigger difference in the back-wall and side-wall vortex zones.

Experimental investigations on characteristics of water-air two-phase flows during water-fillings in undulation pipelines

Visual and pressurized pipeline systems with single- and multi-undulation layouts were used to study experimentally and analyze theoretically the transient characteristics of water-air two-phase flow during water fillings in undulation pipelines based on the combination action analyses of both the communicating pipe and the gravity of the water-air two-phase flows in the descending pipe. For the single undulation pipeline, the complex two-phase flow-pattern evolutions including full pipe flow and stratified flow for low, medium, high water-filling velocity cases, respectively, lead to a great difference in transient pressure, flow pattern and the water-filling duration. Especially for low and medium water-filling velocity cases, the hydraulic theories related to hydraulic drop and hydraulic jump were employed to investigate the entrapped air pocket evolutions in the descending pipe, and the mechanism of negative pressure at the top of the undulation pipes was analyzed. For the same multi-undulation pipeline, due to the different elevations of the three undulation points along flow direction, namely three different types of pipeline layout, high-medium-low case (high elevation undulation point, medium one, and low one), low-medium-high and high-low-medium ones, their water-filling durations are significantly different, i.e., approximately 80.02 s, 227.34 s and 617.78 s. Meanwhile, there are significant differences in flow patterns in water filling, namely larger entrapped air pockets in three descending pipes for the high-medium-low case, entrapped air pockets in the first two descending pipes and open channel stratified flow in the last one for low-medium-high case, some bubbles in three descending pipes for the high-low-medium case.

Division of diagenesis reservoir facies and its control——Case study of Chang-3 reservoir in Yangchang formation of Fuxian exploration area in northern Shaanxi

By dividing the diagenetic reservoir facies and studying its distribution,we can effectively evaluate *** an analytical method for mutual relationships among diagenesis of reservoirs,structural characteristics and the origin of types of sand,we classified the diagenetic reservoir of the Yanchang formation Chang-3 oil layer into different types and analyzed the factors controlling this high quality *** results show that:1) the catagenesis of the Chang-3 oil layer in the Fuxian region is complex and variable;2) mechanical compaction,pressure solutions and cementation of all kinds of authogenous minerals decreases porosity by 28.13% and 3) corrosion increases porosity by 3.39%.Cementation and corrosion of laumontite is a kind of catagenesis which makes this region different from other exploratory *** original amount and rate of corrosion of laumontite are the main factors for the increase in laumontite *** Chang-3 oil layer developed four kinds of diagenetic reservoir facies,of which the weak compaction facies,i.e.,laumontite corrosion and overgrowth,of the original pore reservoir facies has the most promising *** distribution is controlled by a sedimentary facies zone and is widely developed in the original truncated tributary channel facies belt of the delta *** development of this high quality reservoir is controlled by the distribution of sedimentary sand bodies and secondarily-eroded porosity of laumontite in the Chang-3 oil layer of the Fuxian exploratory region.

Comprehensive mutation screening for 10 genes in Chinese patients suffering very early onset inflammatory bowel disease

AIM: To perform sequencing analysis in patients with very early-onset inflammatory bowel disease (VEO-IBD) to determine the genetic basis for VEO-IBD in Chinese pediatric patients. METHODS: A total of 13 Chinese pediatric patients with VEO-IBD were diagnosed from May 2012 and August 2014. The relevant clinical characteristics of these patients were analyzed. Then DNA in the peripheral blood from patients was extracted. Next generation sequencing (NGS) based on an Illumina-Miseq platform was used to analyze the exons in the coding regions of 10 candidate genes: IL-10, IL-10RA, IL-10RB, NOD2, FUT2, IL23R, GPR35, GPR65, TNFSF15, and ADAM30. The Sanger sequencing was used to verify the variations detected in NGS. RESULTS: Out of the 13 pediatric patients, ten were diagnosed with Crohn's disease, and three diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Mutations in IL-10RA and IL-10RB were detected in five patients. There were four patients who had single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with IBD. Two patients had IL-10RA and FUT2 polymorphisms, and two patients had IL-10RB and FUT2 polymorphisms. Gene variations were not found in the rest four patients. Children with mutations had lower percentile body weight ( 1.0% vs 27.5%, P = 0.002) and hemoglobin ( 87.4 g/L vs 108.5 g/L, P = 0.040) when compared with children without mutations. Although the age of onset was earlier, height was shorter, and the response to treatment was poorer in the mutation group, there was no significant difference in these factors between groups. CONCLUSION: IL-10RA and IL-10RB mutations are common in Chinese children with VEO-IBD. Patients with mutations have an earlier disease onset, lower body weight and hemoglobin, and poorer

Most described Mesozoic ants belong to stem groups that existed only during the Cretaceous ***,the earliest known crown ants were dated to the Turonian(Late Cretaceous,ca.94-90 million years ago(Ma))deposits found in the USA,Kazakhstan,and ***,the recent discovery of an alate male ant in Kachin amber from the earliest Cenomanian(ca.99 Ma),representing a new genus and species,Antiquiformica alata,revises the narrative on ant *** can be distinctly differentiated from all known male stem ants by its geniculate antennae with elongated scape,extending far beyond the occipital margin of the head and half the length of the funiculus,as well as its partly reduced forewing ***,the combination of a one-segmented waist with a well-developed node,elongated scape extending beyond the occipital margin,and reduced forewing venation,particularly the completely reduced m-cu and rs-m crossveins and absence of rm and mcu closed cells,firmly places the fossil within the extant subfamily *** transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)confirmed that the amber containing Antiquiformica alata originated from the Kachin mines in *** discovery significantly revises our understanding of the early evolution of *** presence of Antiquiformica in Cenomanian amber indicates that the subfamily Formicinae emerged at least by the start of the Late Cretaceous,with crown ants likely originating earlier during the earliest Cretaceous or possibly the Late Jurassic,although paleontological evidence is lacking to support the latter hypothesis.

Background Good quality of care for inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)depends on high-standard management and facility in the IBD ***,there are no clear measures or criteria for evaluating pediatric IBD(PIBD)center in *** aim of this study was to develop a comprehensive set of quality indicators(QIs)for evaluating PIBD center in *** A modified Delphi consensus-based approach was used to identify a set of QIs of structure,process,and outcomes for defining the *** process included an exhaustive search using complementary approaches to identify potential QIs,and two web-based voting rounds to select the QIs defining the criteria for PIBD *** A total of 101 QIs(35 structures,48 processes and 18 outcomes)were included in this *** QIs focused on the composition of multidisciplinary team,facilities and services that PIBD center should *** QIs highlight core requirements in diagnosing,evaluating,treating PIBD,and disease *** QIs mainly included criteria evaluating effectiveness of various interventions in PIBD *** The present Delphi consensus developed a set of main QIs that may be useful for managing a PIBD center.

Effects of metoclopramide on gastrointestinal myoelectric activity in rats

AIM To investigate the differences of metoclopramide (MCP) action on myoelectric activity of antrum and small intestine. METHODS Ten healthy male Wistar rats, weighing 250g～350g, were anesthetized with ketamine hydrochloride (100mg/kg, intramuscularly). Four pairs of bipolar stainless steel electrodes 3mm apart were implanted on serosal surface of antrum and 1, 10 and 20cm distal to pylorus respectively. Five to 10 days after operation, the gastrointestinal myoelectric activity of fasted rats after intramuscular injection of 2 5, 6 and 12mg/kg MCP respectively ws recorded with a 8 channel EEG machine, and was quantitatively compared with the myoelectric activity after saline injection. RESULTS In fasted rats, 2 5mg/kg MCP increased the amplitude of spike activity (402 0μV±138 4μV, vs 345 0μV±163 4μV, P litude of both the slow wave (332 8μV±200 1μV vs 191 2μV±143 9μV, P litude of spike activity (407 3μV±179 0μV vs 345 0μV±163 4μV, P <0 05; 456 0μV±145 4μV vs 345 0μV±163 4μV, P <0 05) and the percentage of the slow wave containing spike bursts (61 7%±26 5% vs 47 4%±22 5%, P <0 01; 59 1%±17 3% vs 47 4%±22 5%, P <0 01) was increased and with latent period significantly prolonged (2 5min±0 35min vs 0 77min±0 18min, P <0 01).
