The Pearl River Mouth Basin(PRMB)is an important area for studying the evolution of continental marginal basins in the northern South China Sea(SCS),but the structural variability and spatiotemporal rifting process remains poorly understood.This study investigates the differential structural features of the eastern,middle and western PRMB,as well as the extensional deformation laws in operation during the rifting stage,according to an integrated analysis of geometric characteristics and kinematic parameters,i.e.,horizontal displacement and stretching factors of basin and crust.The PRMB underwent at least three phases of intense extension,which varied in time and space.(1)During the middle Eocene,most sags in the PRMB were intensely stretched and high-angle planar to listric boundary faults controlled the wedge-shaped stratigraphic geometry.(2)During the late Eocene-to-early Oligocene,the stratigraphic geometry of the sags was slightly wedge-shaped and continuously controlled by boundary faults,however,the extensional strength decreased relatively in the Northern depression zone,but increased in the Southern depression zone.(3)During the late Oligocene,the extension was extremely weak in the northeast PRMB,but relatively strong in the southwest PRMB,leading to tabular stratigraphic geometry in the northeast PRMB,but localized slightly wedge-shaped stratigraphic geometry in the southwest.The southwest PRMB still underwent relatively strong extension during the early Miocene.The southwest PRMB that was induced by a small-scale localized mantle convection system constantly rifted during the late Oligocene,controlled by the weak lithosphere,westward(southwestward)diachronous opening and southward jump of the ocean ridge.The applied quantitative parameters and spatiotemporal rifting process may be used as a reference with which to study the segmented continental margin rifts.

Based on the interpretation of 3D seismic data and structural mapping we analyzed the geometry and kinematics of the fault system and validated the expression of the"Tan-Lu Fracture Zone"in the West Sag of Liaohe Depression,Bohaiwan basin province.The Cenozoic structural deformation within the West Sag of Liaohe Depression can be divided into extensional structure system and dextral structure system.The extensional system is constituted by numerous NNE-NE trending Paleogene normal faults,where the Taian-Dawa fault(F1)is the master boundary fault(MBF)dominating the deposition during Paleogene so that the sag shows a complex half-graben with"boundary fault in the east and overlap in the west".The dextral system is constituted by 2–3 dextral basement faults in NNE-NE trending(F2,F3,F4)and associated structure,and the time of structural action started in Oligocene and continued to Quarternary so that some associated secondary faults of the dextral system cut off the Neogene and Quaternary.Under the influence of the position and attitude of NNE-NE trending basement strike-slip faults,the central north part and the south part of the West Sag show obviously different structural features.The former appears to be a complex"graben"structure limited by the reversed strike-slip fault in the west and bounded by the inverted normal fault in the east,the latter remains the complex half-graben structure with"boundary fault in the east and overlap in the west",and the graben was mildly reconstructed by one or two normal strike-slip faults.The dextral system within the West Sag is the element of the west branch fault of the Tan-Lu Fracture Zone,which is a deep fracture zone extending along the east of the Liaodongwan Gulf.The deep fracture zone branches off into two separate faults within the Liaohe Depression.The east branch goes through from northern part of the Liaodongwan Gulf to the East Sag of Liaohe Depression and links with the Denghua-Mishan Fault near Shenyang,and the west branch passes from northern part of the Liaodong

The carbonate-rich magmatic rocks of West Junggar are distributed in the Baijiantan and Darbut ophiolitic mélanges in the forms of extrusive rocks overlying the mélanges and dykes,either along the margins of the mélange or cross-cutting components of mélanges.Chilled margin and flow structures are present.A SHRIMP zircon U-Pb age of 39.7±1.3 Ma indicates that these carbonate-rich rocks in West Junggar were formed during the Eocene.They have low concentrations in REEs,Th,U,Nb,Ta and are characterized by extremely lowεN d(t),high(87 Sr/86 Sr)i ratios,relatively highδ18 OV-SMOW values and highδ13 CV-PDB values,which is similar with most sedimentary carbonates.Furthermore,no contemporaneous mantle-derived silicate rocks have yet been found in West Junggar.The carbonate-rich rocks in West Junggar are thus distinct from mantle-derived carbonatites and are interpreted to result from melting of the Carboniferous sedimentary carbonates at crustal levels,these rocks therefore being referred to as’crustal carbonatites’.The Eocene crustal carbonatites in West Junggar and other Cenozoic magmatic rocks in North Xinjiang are generally situated along regional strike-slip faults or fault intersections.Therefore,we propose that the reactivation of the Darbut and Baijiantan crustal-scale strike-slip fault zones(ophiolitic mélanges),due to the far-field effects of the Indian-Eurasian collision,enables decompression melting of the underlying continental lithospheric mantle.These resulting melts ascended to the lower crust through the strike-slip faults,causing partial melting of the Carboniferous carbonaceous sediments.The crustal carbonatites in West Junggar provide a new piece of evidence for Cenozoic magmatism in North Xinjiang and are also significant for the investigation of tectono-magmatic relations in North Xinjiang and the Central Asian Orogenic Belt.

The early stage of Sichuan Basin formation was controlled by the convergence of three major Chinese continental blocks during the Indosinian orogeny that include South China,North China,and qiangtang blocks.Although the Late Triassic Xujiahe Formation is assumed to represent the commencement of continental deposition in the Sichuan Basin,little research is available on the details of this particular stratum.Sequence stratigraphic analysis reveals that the Xujiahe Formation comprises four third-order depositional sequences.Moreover,two tectono-sedimentary evolution stages,deposition and denudation,have been identified.Typical wedge-shaped geometry revealed in a cross section of the southern Sichuan Basin normal to the Longmen Shan fold-thrust belt is displayed for the entire Xujiahe Formation.The depositional extent did not cover the Luzhou paleohigh during the LST1 to LST2 （LST,TST and HST mean Iowstand,transgressive and highstand systems tracts,1,2,3 and 4 represent depositional sequence 1,2,3 and 4）,deltaic and fluvial systems fed sediments from the Longmen Shan belt,Luzhou paleohigh,Hannan dome,and Daba Shan paleohigh into a foreland basin with a centrally located lake.The forebulge of the western Sichuan foreland basin was located southeast of the Luzhou paleohigh after LST2.According to the principle of nonmarine sequence stratigraphy and the lithology of the Xujiahe Formation,four thrusting events in the Longmen Shan fold-thrust belt were distinguished,corresponding to the basal boundaries of sequences 1,2,3,and 4.The northern Sichuan Basin was tilted after the deposition of sequence 3,inducing intensive erosion of sequences 3 and 4,and formation of wedge-shaped deposition geometry in sequence 4 from south to north.The tilting probably resulted from small-scale subduction and exhumation of the western South China block during the South and North China block collision.

Structural Evolution of Chepaizi Uplift and its Control on Stratigraphic Deposition in the Western Junggar Basin, China

Geological mapping,interpreted cross sections,structural analyses and residual thickness maps were used to characterize the evolution of stress setting,structure and stratigraphic distribution of the Chepaizi Uplift,which is a NW-SE trending structure located in the Western Junggar Basin.The NS-trending faults show an important transpressional phase during the Late Permian,as demonstrated by tectonic stress field and stratigraphic thickness variations.A major compressional thrusting and strike-slip phase during the Late Jurassic created a series of NW-SE faults that originated by the large-scale uplift event in the Northern Tianshan.Faults were reactivated as thrust and dextral strike-slip faults.In addition,the angular unconformity observed between Jurassic and Cretaceous provide evidence of this tectonic event.Lots of normal faults indicate that the area records southward tilting and regional derived extensional stress that took place during the Neogene.Before that,thick Early Cenozoic strata are widely deposited.The balanced cross-section highlights the evolution of stress setting and stratigraphic distribution of the Chepaizi Uplift.

前陆冲断带可以分为3种基本类型:弧后前陆型、周缘前陆型和再生前陆型冲断带。相对国外典型前陆冲断带,中国中西部前陆冲断带在构造演化和变形方面具有独特性,属于再生前陆型冲断带,普遍经历了两期逆冲构造变形、或者"伸展-挤压-伸展-挤压"多期构造变形的叠加。中国中西部的再生前陆冲断带多具有"分带、分段和分层"的结构特征,表现出以主干断裂为界往往可以划分为若干个冲断变形带,沿走向方向表现为几个在构造变形上具有明显差异的变形区段,在垂向上由于滑脱层的发育表现出不协调的分层收缩、上下叠置的变形特征。

本文依据南沙海域实际地震测线资料,相关证据显示早中新世(T_(60)-T_(40)之间)南沙腹地多盆地发生挤压反转构造,南沙西南部多见挤压褶皱。南沙海域及周边地区在早中新世开始发生全区的挤压隆升和剥蚀,经过局部剥蚀量和构造抬升量定量估算,认为隆升核心区域的九章盆地由于挤压隆升导致的地层剥蚀量大于3 500 m。"早中新世挤压隆升幕"形成一个以郑和隆起为核心的"碟形"剥蚀区,活动时间与西南次海盆的扩张时间一致,西南次海盆的扩张可能是造成隆升幕的重要原因。由于隆升剥蚀前存在深埋,南沙腹地(九章盆地为代表)和南沙北缘(中业、永登盆地为代表)的"浅、薄、小"盆地群的价值不容忽视。

岩石圈伸展变形可以以不同方式发生,导致伸展盆地表现出不同特征的结构形态。根据盆地横剖面上的变形特征,伸展盆地的结构形态可以分为"拗陷""拗断""断陷"和"断拗"4种基本类型。岩石圈的伸展变形机制包括上地幔的热作用、岩石圈下部的韧性伸展和岩石圈上部(可能只是地壳浅层)的正断层作用。"拗陷"是地壳尺度的均匀伸展变形;而"拗断"和"断拗"都是地壳均匀挠曲变形和非均匀断裂变形叠加的产物。"拗断"和"断拗"这两种结构形态的伸展盆地的沉积充填部分是受伸展断层作用的影响,部分是伸展地壳挠曲变形的响应。虽然各种动力学因素同时存在,但是不同区域、不同时期各动力因素所占比例有所差异,导致伸展盆地在不同时期或同一时期不同区域的盆地结构形态有所差异。

库车坳陷中段克拉苏构造带广泛发育盐相关收缩构造变形,总体具有"垂向叠置、分层变形"的整体挤压变形特征。沿东—西向克拉苏构造带不同区段深浅层构造变形样式、断层位移存在明显差异,北部盐下层由1～2条高角度基底卷入逆冲断层为主导,并在断层下盘发育捷径断层。区域结构平衡剖面和先存构造活动趋势分析结果表明,克拉苏构造带北侧变形属于基底卷入变形,早期先存断裂在后期收缩变形中重新活动,形成高角度的逆冲断裂。物理和数值砂箱模拟结果表明,盐岩层先于其上、下地层发生变形,其厚度、分布及边界条件差异是造成垂向分层收缩变形的主要控制因素。
