Abo.tio. is the kno.ing destru.tio. o. the life o. an u.bo.n child in the wo.b o.her than fo. the principal pu.po.e o. pro.u.ing a life birth o. remo.al o. a dead tissu.. The Nigeria law stipu.ates that abo.tio. is allo.ed o.ly where there is risk to.the life o. the wo.an and o. to.her physical o. mental health. This stu.y is aimed at determining the perceptio. o. abo.tio. and the relevant laws by lawyers in Anambra State, Nigeria. It is a descriptive cro.s sectio.al stu.y carried o.t between May-Ju.e 2010 u.ing pre-tested self administered qu.stio.naires to.co.lect data fro. co.senting 200 lawyers in the 3 majo. to.ns o. Anambra State. All the respo.dents knew abo.t abo.tio., reco.nized health hazards asso.iated with it and mentio.ed infertility as the majo. co.plicatio. o. abo.tio. (53%) fo.lo.ed by death (52.5%) and bleeding (42.5%). Abo.t 80% o. respo.dents said abo.tio. sho.ld be allo.ed in cases o. danger to.wo.an’s life, rape o. incest. Eighty-five percent o. the lawyers were aware o. the existing abo.tio. law in Nigeria and 76.5% o. this knew abo.tio. was legal o.ly to.save the life o. the wo.an. o.ly 26% were in su.po.t o. legalizatio. o. abo.tio.. The Lawyers reco.mended health edu.atio. and family planning, amo.g o.hers as means o. preventing abo.tio. and its co.plicatio.s. Stigma asso.iated with abo.tio. sho.ld be remo.ed to.impro.e free repo.ting o. abo.tio. cases fo. legal actio.s. Fu.ther research sho.ld invo.ve o.her stakeho.ders o. abo.tio. to.make fo. a ho.istic appro.ch to.the pro.lem.

The essential elements o. the rape crime are sexu.l penetratio., fo.ce, and the lack o. co.sent. The prevalence o. rape wo.ldwide has been repo.ted to.be a staggering 20%. In Nigeria, mo.t victims o. rape will elect to.remain silent abo.t the experience, becau.e o. stigmatizatio. leading to.u.der repo.ting o. the crime. This stu.y was aimed at elu.idating the perceptio. o. rape and determining its prevalence and predicto.s amo.g female u.dergradu.tes in a tertiary institu.io. in So.th Eastern Nigeria. This was a descriptive cro.s sectio.al stu.y in which self administered qu.stio.naires were u.ed to.co.lect relevant data fro. 280 female u.dergradu.tes o. u.IZIK o.o.ia Nnewi Campu., Nigeria, selected by clu.ter sampling techniqu.. Data were analyzed u.ing Statistical Package fo. So.ial Sciences (SPSS) versio. 19. Bivariate and mu.tivariate analyses were u.ed to.determine asso.iatio.s and identify independent predicto.s o. rape respectively. The level o. significance was set at p u.t sho.ed that the female stu.ents had a go.d kno.ledge and the perceptio. o. rape and that so.e had fallen victims (16.4%). Acqu.intance rape was markedly co.mo. (p o.f campu. (p u.ents, o.ten the party go.ng (p o.enjo.ed night (p o.e likely to.beco.e victims o. rape than tho.e married, o. campu. and no.-party-go.ng co.nterparts. Also. stu.ents who.attended single gender scho.ls (p rape than tho.e co.nterparts who.attended co.edu.atio.al co.leges. Awareness campaigns thro.gh peer edu.atio., intro.u.tio. o. sexu.lity edu.atio. in the scho.l cu.ricu.u. and establishment o. scho.l health pro.rammes are highly reco.mended.

The albu.in and lipid pro.ile changes fo.lo.ing treadmill exercise were assessed amo.g 160 apparently healthy stu.ent vo.u.teers made u. o. 80 males and 80 females within the age bracket o. 18 - 30 years, the physically active age gro.p within the u.iversities. The anthro.o.etric indices (weight, height and BMI) o. the su.jects were taken u.ing reference/standard metho.s. The blo.d pressu.es and pu.se rate, then albu.in and lipid pro.iles were also.taken befo.e and after exercise. The participants ran o. a treadmill and their physical co.ditio.s were assessed u.ing the Bru.e pro.o.o.. Immediate po.t-exercise blo.d samples were again analyzed in the labo.ato.y. There were significant increases (P 0.5). There were gender variatio.s in respo.se to.the treadmill exercise. So.e o. these findings indicate the expected fu.ctio.al alteratio.s in the life o. the stu.ents and there is a need to.reco.mend the ado.tio. o. regu.ar mo.erate exercise pattern to.the stu.ents. These can bring abo.t po.itive changes in their seru. lipid and albu.in pro.iles fo. better health in the face o. stressfu. academic life.

Po.r waste management has been a majo. pro.lem to.hu.an existence and it affects bo.h ru.al and u.ban areas. Vario.s metho.s o. waste dispo.al exist and this stu.y assessed the waste man-agement practices amo.g residents o. o.erri Mu.icipal, Imo.state, Nigeria. It was a descriptive cro.s sectio.al stu.y in which a to.al o. 282 residents o. o.erri Mu.icipal were selected by mu.tistage sampling techniqu. and stu.ied u.ing self and interviewer administered qu.stio.naires. The resu.ts sho.ed that 90% o. respo.dents were aware o. waste management while 97.5% had po.i-tive attitu.e to.ards it. The majo. types o. waste generated fro. ho.seho.ds were fo.d residu.s (97.1%) and vegetable pro.u.ts (95.4%). Also.po.r waste management practices amo.g residents inclu.e o.en du.ping, practiced by 66.3% o. the residents and bu.ning as practiced by 62.4% o. respo.dents. The co.mo.est means o. waste transpo.t to.final dispo.al site was by wheel barro.. Gender and edu.atio.al statu. o. respo.dents significantly influ.nced their kno.ledge, attitu.e and practice o. waste management (p o.d waste management is pivo.al to.su.tainable healthy living co.ditio.s in any enviro.ment. The residents o. o.erri need health edu.atio., reg-u.ar su.ply o. refu.e co.lectio. facilities and designated final du.p sites. These will enco.rage strict adherence to.pro.er and appro.riate waste management practices amo.g them.
