Research in Agrometeorolgy on Fodder Crops in Central India—An Overview

Livestock.rearing is one of the major occupations in India and is mak.ng significant contribution to the country GDP. The regional and seasonal variations in the teperature and rainfall distribution have been the major factors influencing the economy of a region. It is a matter of serious concern that out of 11 districts of central India, 9 districts are showing increasing trend in maximum temperature with a rate of 0.01°C to 0.15°C/year. A significant long-term decreasing trend (Slope = -4.26) was found in annual rainfall series at Jhansi. At Jhansi, moderate to severe drought occurs once in five years. But in the last decade, 7 years experienced moderate to disastrous drought in Jhansi region, wherein rainfall deficiency ranged between 40% and 60% from normal value. Of special mention was the year, 2006, which experienced a worst drought ever recorded for this region. Studies related to crop simulation model was carried out for fodder sorghum and its application for agronomic management and assessing the impact of climate change. Crop modeling studies on forage sorghum (C4) and cowpea (C3) showed increased dry matter biomass by 3% in sorghum but more prominent in cowpea by 46% under elevated CO2 from 330 ppm to 770 ppm. The interaction study of enhanced CO2 and temperature showed prominent negative impact on yields of both the crops. Evapotranspiration and crop coefficient (k.) of several fodder crops i.e. berseem, lucerne, oat, sorghum, teosinte, maize + cowpea, guinea + berseem were work.d out. In berseem, the highest k. (1.81) was found during 2nd cutting followed by 3rd and 4th cuts. Estimates on irrigation scheduling for the guinea grass + berseem showed that the cropping system requires 7 irrigations at an interval ranging from 13 to 30 days to fulfill the 567.6 mm of water per season as net irrigation under mar soil (black. type whose actual water holding capacity (AWHC) is 175 mm. A transverse local feedback.linearization approach to human head movement control

In the mid-nineteenth century, Donders had proposed that for every human head rotating away from the primary pointing direction, the rotational vectors in the direction of the corresponding axes of rotation, is restricted to lie on a surface. Donders＇ intuition was that under such a restriction, the head orientation would be a function of its pointing direction. In this paper, we revisit Donders＇ Law and show that indeed the proposed intuition is true for a restricted class of head-orientations satisfying a class of quadratic Donders＇ surfaces, if the head points to a suitable neighborhood of the frontal pointing direction. Moreover, on a suitably chosen subspace of the 3D rotation group SO（3）, we describe a head movement dynamical system with input control signals that are the three external torques on the head provided by muscles. Three output signals are also suitably chosen as follows. Two of the output signals are coordinates of the frontal pointing direction. The third signal measures deviation of the state vector from the Donders＇ surface. We claim that the square system is locally feedback.linearizable on the subspace chosen, and the linear dynamics is decomposed into parts, transverse and tangential to the Donders＇ surface. We demonstrate our approach by synthesizing a track.ng and path-following controller. Additionally, for different choices of the Donders＇ surface parameters, head gaits are visualized by simulating different movement patterns of the head-top vector, as the head-pointing vector rotates around a circle.

Localization is one of the fundamental problems in wireless sensor network. （WSNs）, since locations of the sensor nodes are critical to both network.operations and most application level task.. Although the GPS based localization schemes can be used to determine node locations within a few meters, the cost of GPS devices and non-availability of GPS signals in confined environments prevent their use in large scale sensor network.. There exists an extensive body of research that aims at obtaining locations as well as spatial relations of nodes in WSNs without requiring specialized hardware and/or employing only a limited number of anchors that are aware of their own locations. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey on sensor localization in WSNs covering motivations, problem formulations, solution approaches and performance summary. Future research issues will also be discussed.

Influence of Cold Deformation on the Aging Behaviour of Al-Cu-Si-Mg Alloy

The present study deals with the effect of cold deformation and subsequent aging on the microstructure and mechanical properties of AI-Cu-Si-Mg alloy. Differential scanning calorimetry indicates that precipitation occurs in the temperature range of 258-272℃ for the as quenched wrought alloy. The activation energy value estimated by k.ssinger method for the aforesaid precipitation reaction is obtained as 106 k./mol. 45% cold deformation prior to aging indicates the first dissolution reaction at about 50℃ and the precipitation reaction at a temperature of about 82℃. Microstructural investigations have revealed the formation of fine precipitates within the matrix after aging of the cold deformed sample. As-quenched alloy reveals prominently the aging response, The increase in hardness, yield and tensile strength with simultaneous decrease in elongation in the deformed alloy is found to be primarily due to the deformation strengthening and not due to the precipitation hardening.

A field experiment was conducted for two consecutive years at North Eastern Indian Himalayan region to assess the effect of soil moisture conservation measures on soil and water productivity of different rainfed maize(Zea mays L.)-based cropping *** revealed that double mulching with in-situ maize stover mulch(MSM)+fresh biomass of white hoary pea(WHP-Tephrosia candida)and MSM+fresh biomass of ragweed(RW-Ambrosia artemisiifolia)improved soil moisture content(SMC)and leaf relative water content of crops during dry *** soil organic carbon(SOC)content and stock. under MSM+WHP and MSM+RW mulches were significantly higher than that under no mulch at 0-15 cm *** soil microbial biomass carbon and dehydrogenase activity were maximum under MSM+WHP/*** highest system productivity was obtained from maize-French bean(Pole type-PT)sequence under MSM+RW followed by MSM+*** water productivity was the highest under MSM+*** SOC content was the highest under maize-French bean(PT),the maximum plant available nitrogen and phosphorus were obtained under maize-black.gram ***,double mulching technology involving MSM and RW(available in plenty)is a viable option for improving soil,crop and water productivity under rainfed hill ecosystems of eastern Indian Himalayas.

Synchronization behavior of an ensemble of unidirectionally coupled neurons with a constant input is investigated. Chemical synapses are considered for coupling. Each neuron is also considered to be exposed to a self-delayed feedback. The synchronization phenomenon is analyzed by the error dynamics of the response trajectories of the system. The effect of various model parameters e.g. coupling strength, feedback.gain and time delay, on synchronization is also investigated and a measure of synchrony is computed in each cases. It is shown that the synchronization is not only achieved by increasing the coupling strength, the system also required to have a suitable feedback.gain and time delay for synchrony. Robustness of the parameters for synchrony is verified for larger systems.

Temperature-Induced Stress on Growth and Expression of Hsp in Freshwater alga Scenedesmus quadricauda

Objective To investigate the impact of various levels of sublethal temperature （26℃, 31 ℃, 33℃, 36℃, and 39℃） on growth and heat shock.protein （hsp） expression in freshwater green alga Scenedesmus quadricauda. Methods Impact of selected levels of temperature on growth rate （based on optical density）, population count, chlorophyll-a and biomass of the alga was evaluated in artificial growth medium for 19 days. To determine the induction of hsp in the alga, it was exposed to selected temperature levels for 3 h and further k.pt for 6 h at culturing condition at 26℃. Induction of hsp was confirmed by immuno-detection followed by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Results The selected growth parameters such as growth rate, population count, chlorophyll-a and biomass were reduced significantly （P〈0.001） at 39℃. However, hsp 70 expression was observed only at 39℃. Conclusion Temperature up to 36℃ may be considered as the limit of safe exposure for thermal, stress for the alga Scenedesmus quadricauda.

Improvement of warm formability of Al-Mg sheet alloys containing coarse second-phase particles

Several alloying elements involving Zr, Cu, Zn and Sc were added to Al-Mg sheet alloys in order to obtain an excellent combination of high strength and good high-temperature formability. Microstruc-tural examination showed that coarse intermetallic particles were formed in the microstructure and their amounts changed with variations of the alloying elements. During warm rolling of thermome-chanical treatments prior to warm deformation, the coarse particles initiated crack., decreasing the warm formability. For healing the crack.damage and further improving the warm formability, a process of hot isothermal press was developed and optimized to the sheet alloys. With this process, the biaxial stretch formability at 350℃ was improved by 22% for an aluminum alloy containing a large amount of coarse particles.
